psxfin is the best for save states, aka psX 1.13

It has 5 designated quicksave slots, but also allows you to load savestates directly from a folder really easily so you can organise them in folders however you like rather than trying to memorise which save slot is which or transferring folders into the specific save location of the emulator. That is the emulator Dave uses in his video btw.

Black Chocobo is a good tool for creating and editing save files, which will help with practicing boss fights. If you want to practice step route, the best bet is probably to use cheat engine, and alter the addresses when you load a save so that it simulates where and what encounters you should get.

Another option for step count is to use an emulator and its save state feature, it'll be more difficult to keep steps compared to PC, and some of the setups for preemptive fights are slightly different but if you can keep good movement on emulator then PC will be a breeze. Emulator is also good for practicing menus even though they do feel slightly different.

It was my anti-virus detecting it, thanks for the pointer. For future reference, adding the .exe to permission list solved the problem.

Thanks again.

Hello everyone

I'm currently trying to have FPSFix limit my FPS for my PC runs, but I'm unable to get the software to work. I followed the guide listed but to no avail it seems.

The FPS counter does show up, but hovers around 30.71 FPS. I've tried altering the ff7.txt file as described to drop the FPS, but it seems to have no effect, the FPS counter doesn't drop at all. I've even tried to raise the value in the text file as well to see if there is any change, but there wasn't any.

I've tried the following to fix the problem.

  • Running as admin
  • Extracting FPSFix to different locations
  • Using the file unaltered
  • Having values in the text file range from 9240 - AF40

One unusual thing that happens is that the .exe file disappears (deletes itself?), I don't know if this is by design or not.

Any known issues with the software? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated and TIA.

I've recently been trying a new materia setup for Tifa for the oh so lovely Demons Gate to try and make it a bit safer. Elemental + Shiva to halve the damage of cave-in. Damage from cave-in drops to about 70-75 helping keep her alive when in critical HP.

I wouldn't think I'm the first person to try this, any thoughts on whether this is a good or bad tactic?

Thanks in advance

I don't think you would need reset the console for an Xbox run, just close the program. But its probably a good idea to anyway.

That's what I thought, just wanted to check.

Thanks for that.

I'm looking to post a run for the PC category of any% no slots no warp freeFPS, and the submission form is asking what region of the game I'm playing.

The options are NTSC Japan and USA, and Euro PAL.

I did my run on the Steam release of the game, and I'm not sure which region to select, or to just leave it blank. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
