I don't believe I've ever said they're exactly the same thing. I've always just been an advocate for always just running the game however you want. I would have to say that I agree with your post all the way up until you say: "Emulator should never be the dominant force anyway...."

I think that if you want to run the game, you should be able to play the game in any way you want. You shouldn't have to feel obligated to go out and buy a console/game/capture card just to start speedrunning because you're shunned for using an emulator. It's that sort of barrier to entry that keeps people away.

I don't have a problem separating the two, and even if I did I certainly wouldn't go around changing stuff haphazardly without some sort of general consensus first. I also don't have a problem if the community wants to decide that running on console should be the default, my only concern is I don't want to ostracize people who might want to run it on an emulator either.

This seems a bit arbitrary considering the site literally already has had this feature built in....

I think I know what the problem was. Try restarting and/or redownloading again. I believe it should work now.

What version of the game are you running? PC, N64? (And I assume you're referring to the autosplitter?)

United Statescheeseandcereal6 years ago

Are you trying to use it with PJ64, or the computer version?

That screen always comes up after exiting a level if you've collected any tokens/new potato head items. It doesn't just happen on Andy's House, it happens after every level. Nothing you can do about it, the screen isn't optional. You don't really 'lose time' because everyone has to view that screen, just watch literally any other N64 run to confirm this.

Hey! You can find information regarding the PC version here:

http://www.speedrun.com/toys2/thread/uvz8q

Just go to the pastebin near the top of that post (go to the pastebin link that says mirrors for all links). You can also find the link to join our discord server at the top of that post and we can chat and help you out! I'm sure there are several of us who would be more than happy to teach you or talk to you about it!

Yup, that's fine. Just know PC will always be the faster version for 40 token, but if that doesn't bother you, then don't worry about it. You're run will be accepted with ePSXe.

United Statescheeseandcereal7 years ago

"Same deal"? That doesn't say a lot. Do you get the same exact message "unable to enumerate a suitable device?" What's the actual error message you're getting?

United Statescheeseandcereal7 years ago

Do people have issues running that game? I haven't played it in a while, so I'm not entirely sure. Is there some common issue with not being able to run it?

United Statescheeseandcereal7 years ago

Yeah, I would saying using a controller would be extremely helpful for analogue input.

Also yeah, the box jump can be somewhat precise. For a beginner, I would recommend just pushing those 2 boxes and getting up the intentional way. You can focus on harder tricks like that later.

Ah, thanks for the note. Didn't realize that!

Yeah, looks like the installer isn't working for some reason, well, you can try manually installing it to see if it works.

Try downloading this file: https://mega.nz/#!Ws9TjSjI!C9grtftkc6Aoo4vn1zQuTOsWlPlWuqDdP59BJ47IyIQ

Then extract it so the two .bat files are in the same folder as the install.exe

From there, right click on toy2reg.bat and select run as administrator (the command prompt window should come up, and quickly closed when finished), and then double click to run toy2copy.bat (don't run this one as an administrator). It will then copy all of the files and install the game to C:\Toy Story 2

Once that second .bat file is done, it will open up the window where it installed Toy Story 2. From there, you can right click on dgVoodooSetup.exe, and select run as administrator and follow the steps from the video to set up dgvoodoo. Then you can right click on toy2.exe and create a shortcut to put on your desktop (or wherever you want). Set the shortcut to always run as an administrator (right click on the shortcut, click properties, then click "Advanced...", then check the box that says "Run as administrator" and click ok out of the windows).

You should then be hopefully be able to run the game from that shortcut. Let me know how this works for you or if you have any questions.

Alright, from that folder in the screenshot, go into the "Setup" folder and run "SETUP.EXE" as an administrator (right click on it, then click Run as Administrator). That should manually start the installation.

Tell me if this yields any results.

United Statescheeseandcereal7 years ago

Just to confirm, you extracted the download before running install.exe, correct?

I suspect that you may not have extracted the download, but rather just ran the installer from within the zip file. If you did this, the setup won't do anything, since it won't have all the files it needs to run.

If you click on the downloaded file, you should get a screen like this: http://i.imgur.com/KTtLQ73.png

Click on that Extract all button, then click on "Extract" from the window that pops up. After it's finished, it will open a new folder that looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/bDNv8N4.png

Note that it doesn't have the extraction options in the bar up top, because it's a folder, not a .zip file (Also the address bar DOESN'T say Toy Story 2 PC Installer.zip).

Once you have extracted the download and it looks like the second screenshot, try the installation process again.

United Statescheeseandcereal7 years ago

You can also try extracting ToyStory 2 PC Installer.zip, then navigating to <extracted directory>\Setup\ and run SETUP.exe as an administrator, then do the remaining bits like configuring dgVooDoo manually. Or try the more manual option mentioned above by hdc0. I was confused because you said the game wasn't starting, but you were referring to the installer, not the game.

United Statescheeseandcereal7 years ago

Did you run as an administrator? Also when you say "my program" are you referring to the installer or the game?

United Statescheeseandcereal7 years ago

Like certain release. The "1.0" version of the game can do the clip on retail N64.

United Statescheeseandcereal7 years ago

I don't know where this idea of the basement clip being emu exclusive came from. It's been tested and confirmed on retail n64, but it's version exclusive, so not every N64 cart will do the clip. Just run the game however you want.
