It's not that mods are corrupt, but they definitely make mistakes all the time, like we did with anti. That being said, unless the run was WR at some point, I don't think a missing vid warrants run removal. Especially that sooner or later most twitch or youtube vids will be completely gone / URLs will change, and policing missing runs would be too much effort, and removing them is also potentially a deletion of ex-runners' run history (because a lot of people (myself included) don't keep their run history besides on SR.com).

The loss of run history itself is such a strong argument against no-vid-run deletion that I think it negates any kinda benefit deleting those runs would have.

I'd advocate for relaxing rules for beginner runners with not-so-fast runs. In GTA3, I and others have accepted runs that are for instance accidentally NG+ (because of forgetting to delete old replay), accidentally loaded a wrong save (happens to very beginners who do safety saves even in any%). Of course the main culprit of SA (accidental cheats) is not present in GTA3.

But I honestly think that honest rule breaking mistakes that don't involve the player gaining any time should be forgiven for new runners with sub-par times. Repeated offences in my experiences don't happen, so by the time someone gets good, they won't make the same accidental mistakes. Of course, these minor rule breaking runs are given a notification from the mods in the comment under the run.

The same mentality goes for rules like fresh game start. For new people with sub-par times, it won't matter in the end and they will be less annoyed with playing the game if they don't need to restart the game all the time.

About timing, have you looked into applying the same timing start as in GTA3 and VC? If that's impossible, I'd agree with cutscene skip as that's the second best option. Of course it needs to be figured out how much time difference it is between old timing and new timing, maybe the lb times are needed to be modified if the timing change happens.

You and others explained it badly so he didn't properly understand what you meant. But now the problem is fixed so it's all good.

Give this a try:

 1. Start gtaiii.exe
 2. Skip intro movies, press Enter twice to start a new game
 3. Pause after you gain control, and see if the menu is still transparent

If the menu is still transparent then I have no idea how you can solve it. The issue normally (as people have pointed out already) is that the menu runs at unlimited FPS before you actually load a game.

The post has some good sentiments and I feel it was written in good faith, honestly I've been always pretty annoyed at the fact that "people in power" (I dislike using this phrase but here it's technically correct) have been mostly the same people over the years and mostly from the same circle. I think this creates unnecessary tension, probably discourages new people to join and also fosters a kind of atmosphere where people feel comfortable looking down on new (or out-of-circle) people's opinions. Also the fact that there have been massive mistakes pretty much every year from pretty much all sides of the leaderboard mods (and other "important people") probably stems from these people getting burned out and becoming annoyed. In a community that made sense, these people would just say goodbye and leave (or take a break) instead of fucking up other people's work.

Just some random idea: if sr.com works in a reasonable way, then by deleting the "Finish Game" category, the levels and runs weren't themselves deleted, so by restoring/adding a new "Finish game" category and assigning all the runs to that via some database magic, the ILs could have been restored without adding the levels back manually.

I used to be against adding dupeless to the main boards for any of the 3D GTA games, because I thought that it would be an incentive for runners not to do the objectively harder and more annoying, yet way faster routes. Back in the days I was mosty worried about dupeless compromising the advancements in any%.

But a lot of time has passed since then, and all of the 3D-era games have been improved to an amazing extent, and nowadays even the best runners are turning back to dupeless. So I think now is the time to try and add the 'No Major Glitches' stuff on the main boards. Although I am not sure how it would be done best, subcategories for all the classic categories (Any%, AM, 100%) or just having a separate Any% NMG tab.

I would like to see some slowed-down footage of the snapping, for me it seems that he's just dragging the mouse and hoping to hit anything. It really doesn't seem unusual to me, and I've seen a lot of gang territory and endgame gameplay from good players. It may seem very "snappy", maybe because SA's aiming is garbage and the game seems to skip pixels for some reason.

If the slowed-down footage shows the snapping, then okay. But without that, I'm not convinced.

I read that discussion and it wasn't bad at all, in my opinion. Please don't confuse saying useless shit on the forums with disagreeing with you. People explained why dupeless is dedicated to the meme boards, they weren't wrong.

For an actual rule, not allowing unproductive complaining would help. For example, answering this to a thread that was made for a question already in the FAQ is not good:
Fuck off with this stupid question that have been already asked 100 times hurr durr
Answering this and then locking/deleting the thread should be better:
Read the FAQ, and join the Discord to get help for your further questions
Also, not allowing pointless circlejerk would be an improvement. Pretty much anything useless that is written with a bad intention should get nuked, I'm not sure about other offtopic posts that are in good faith. If they become spam then sure they can go, but I'm not sure how you can formulate that as a rule.

I posted these in the discord, I think these are okay ideas:

[1:19 AM] lev: The problem we can actually solve is people baiting others and acting retarded [...] [1:23 AM] lev: I posted a thread called "information for new runners" for gta3 that links to the discord and shit [1:23 AM] lev: Something like that with guidelines would make things better probably [...] [1:24 AM] lev: Well Josh when people go to the forums and all they see is massive amounts of diarrhea then they will just add more to the pile [...] [1:26 AM] lev: Maybe merge common question threads and answers into an faq [1:26 AM] lev: More work but it will probably pay off [1:27 AM] lev: I'd delete at least like half of the threads after getting the faq done [1:27 AM] lev: Cause most are just questions [1:28 AM] lev: That will tell people who are new not to create threads for questions [1:29 AM] lev: [...] if people create threads anyways, answer if you can in a reply, tell them to get on the discord and nuke the thread the next day or some shit

I would be happy if some kind of Y-sens fix was allowed, as someone without a mouse that can change DPI.

But in my opinion this is going way too far:
Going even further, there's sensitivity fix (asi), you can configure different sensitivities of [when not aiming / when aiming with a weapon / when aiming with sniper rifle]. It also eliminates pixelated mouse movement and increases smoothness, and believe me, it does help a lot with aiming.
Most people think that the Y-sens fix itself is going too far, I suppose that's why it's no allowed.

This "crash-change" strat is slower in this form than what we do in runs right now. It would be nice if there was a setup that was consistent which involved blowing up the helicopter before it gets onto the ground.

An idea that powdinet experimented with some time ago was blowing up the heli on the chimney, but that was not very consistent. Of course other setups could be considered, the point is to blow up the heli before it gets on the ground. Preferably even before the chimney.

Could be worth another shot if you are bored/wanna test it a little bit.

Go to the community discord and post it in #gta3. You can find the link in the pinned thread.

The link was wrong, it's still there:

Thanks for pointing it out, I'll fix it ASAP

Another thing for me is that with DxWnd, I cannot have my controller plugged in, otherwise the game crashes on startup.

You mean the post saying the voting is biased was in fact biased ¤and¤ wrong? Who would have guessed that

Tokyo, Japanblacklev6 years ago

I could play it with keyboard and mouse with the emulator, but that would be about as retarded as using controller on PC with a mod
