Hello,

Recently, repusoiram submitted a time which claims to be 1 frame faster than the previous tied WR times submitted by eunos and me. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see how the one frame was saved, and in timing the runs, I actually find that all three are the exact same duration. The timing rules are a bit vague here so I assume this was just a slight miscount but I think all three should be tied for first place at 22.784s.

Here is a video comparing all three runs in tandem, synchronized so they start on the same frame: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1B2OLize-B4pL31cTMW915pMGayeI8PAe/view?usp=sharing

The counting we have used based on the rules was starting at the last frame where the name input is shown (after which the screen turns grey) and ending on the first frame where the words "GAME END" appear. In the linked video, all three runs then begin at 02.833s and end at 25.616s

I've done a couple runs of Round 1 blindfolded. It's pretty fun (and basically the same as wr strats). Is there any interest in making a category of it?

Seems like we all agree here.

I'd prefer to have a start time that is static from a button press with a clear visual indication. That way it is easy ot start your timer (with whatever offset, if needed) when you press a button and also easy to check visually for retiming purposes.

To that end I'd suggest the first black frame after opponent selection (0.282 offset on timer if you start timer when you press A)

I think the start time could be adjusted as well, because it's really hard to see when you press A for retiming. During the opponent selection screen both the team and the word "computer" blink and so there is no visual indication when you press A. Instead, I've had to count back 17 frames from the first all black frame after selection.

As for the FINAL, I think that's a better choice too since I almost invariably split late on the newscaster. The only reason to wait until then is that you have to press A once to skip the stats screen but I don't think that really shows any particular skill and I agree it's just a waste.

I used hud scrolling to save some time picking up arrows from the coast shop in several runs. It also looks swag af.

We should also just not refer to any categories pejoratively. Shaming people for playing a game the way they want to play it just hurts the community.

I would think people are allowed to play whatever version is allowed for the runs, although I have only ever seen people play the NES one either on real hardware or via an emulator in a tournament. Ultimately it would depend on the rules of the tournament.

I didn't think to look in the screen scroll section >_<

Yes, you do. Unfortunately don't have an image showing the pixels handy and I don't see one on redcandle.us.

The same as block clipping and screen scrolling, you must do a 1 frame tap in a direction perpendicular to your facing. Unlike block clipping, however, you cannot buffer this tap with a sword or other item.
