Decided to make a general thread for sharing tips and details about Aurora mode running. For a few starting notes:

-Aurora's backdash gives her coyote time, which can be used to make some otherwise impossible jumps. This becomes irrelevant with the wings but can be used to get past the moving block room in Galleon Minerva faster and to get an MP Max Up early. -Aurora's backdash grants her i-frames. -Aurora gains back MP when dealing melee damage, including with counters. This makes rhythmic countering and spamming Light Ray a great strategy for Zangetsu. Dominique might require other strategies to be consistently quick. -In New Game+, you have enough health to reach Zangetsu II as soon as Aurora gets her wings, skipping a huge chunk of the game. I do not know if this is possible without it yet, but this does make it so the game can be beaten without visiting the Tower, Caverns, Lab, or Inferno Cave. The question is, is this possible without New Game+ by collecting just a few health max ups? It might be, given Igniculus can heal Aurora when idle, though there is the matter of fighting Dominique and Bael with a low level at that point ... -Light Ray obviously doesn't do much against Dominique. Thankfully, Death Cry/Gen can be easily obtained from a Cyhyraeth on the way to Craftwork. My currently submitted run does not do this but it may be a good idea to incorporate it into the route.

Long needed update: We do know now that the melody shell count is read when the game spawns the player in with this glitch. Further experimentation should be done to determine the viability of this glitch in a run.

Hey, so I'm looking to get into running this game at some point, and I've heard of this trick called "cursed item debuffing" which I'm not sure what it entails. Would anyone care to enlighten me?

Looking at the Guest Star leaderboard, why isn't there a leaderboard for each playable character? For people wanting to get into speedrunning the game, I think having multiple tabs for each individual character in Guest Star would be worthwhile, both for variety and to give the other characters a chance to be run.

Just an idea. At least for the Dream Friends, if not the helpers. Perhaps even one for the 1.0 Kirby glitch, for the insane people out there.

Because of the iffyness of DS emulation right now, I would recommend you just go ahead and record with the camera.

Sorry for the late response, it's been a while since I've been active on this site.

So Sandy can cross that first gap. Yeah, that's a MUCH easier and faster route. I actually figured out a faster-than-previous route earlier but didn't do a run yet, but it was only for the second half of the room. As for the fire thing, interesting, and definitely a better strategy than before.

I'll share the OOBs in Coral Cave 2 soon, been busy applying for college and learning Game Design.

Well, what would the category be named then?

I was wondering if there'd be a way to skip the ship. This could potentially save a LOT of time! I'll get to practicing.

Good job on finding this! ^v^

I wonder if there's any similar skips anywhere? I know that it's possible to glitch thru walls in the second Coral Cave room, but I have yet to find a practical use for it. Could it be possible to skip the door?

Hello there peeps, I'm Zwataketa! I'm a youtuber who plays games, and I've taken to speedrunning some games over the years. Some casually (Sonic series comes to mind), and some seriously (Corpse Party and Atlantis Squarepantis DS, for instance). I am well vested in studying tricks and techniques even for games I don't run, even if I can't pull off said tricks (alas, poor Sonic 06). So yeah, I've been here a while, but never really posted in the forum, thus an introduction seemed necessary. ^^

I've played this game for years and never figured that out, mostly because I don't know how to search for that kind of thing in a game. Maybe we should consult TASvideos to take a look at the coding?

Perhaps someone needs to submit a run of the PC version first?

I've started routing for the DS version of Protector of Earth. Is there a discord group I can join to share my findings?

(will add TL;DR part soon)

This is a glitch I've known about for some time now, and I feel it has potential in a speedrun, maybe even leading to a new category, but I don't know how to get consistent results from it. I am posting it here in hopes that someone with better expertise with glitch-hunting can figure out how to get consistency with this glitch.

Note: When I said in the video "any area aside from Bikini bottom", I was referring to the part of the first world where you go thru downtown Bikini Bottom. This glitch works in the first cave level though.

I'd consider joining if that were the case, I guess.

As in, actual restarts, or just resetting the chapter? If the former, then I bring to mind another game people speedrun that does that: Undertale. If the latter, then I don't know what the problem is. If it's something I'm missing, though, please enlighten me.

On a side note, I'm not sure the iOS version has the "out of bounds glitch" like the Vita version, due to both the better compatibility, and the fact that it also has to load the touch screen controls, and I don't see anywhere that it says it's compatible with controllers (but at the same time I don't have a controller yet, so I can't test). I'm still testing, but perhaps seperate "glitchless" categories can be made in that case (as it would seem the iOS version would be superior to the vita version in those categories)

Edit: just tested, and yeah, the iOS version doesn't accept input until the transition from the pause menu is done (you can't even start holding it before hand, you have to start input after the fadein transition is done.) That effectively makes the glitch impossible in the iOS version, unless the game is compatible with controllers and just doesn't say it anywhere.

I only got the game recently, and I plan on finishing it proper before I even consider speedrunning (as of right now I'm only up to Chapter 3), but I have a proposal for 2 new categories: -All chapters any% (as opposed to the individual chapter runs making up the categories right now) -All Endings (the goal would be to play thru the game from the beginning and get all wrong and right ends)

On a side note, I'm playing the iOS version, which is said to run better than the Vita version. Can that be added to the list of devices for this game, please?

Exactly what it says on the title: a Fark Story category that doesn't use the Super Static glitch. Throwin' it out there.

X Newgameplus. In Free Play Mode, go thru all stages, starting with Central Highway, then the 8 Maverick stages (in any order), then the 4 Sigma stages in order. Perhaps there could also be a similar category for Vile, but I have yet to play that mode so I don't know if it wold work very well.
