Hey, I've been learning this speedrun and found theres not much in terms of tutorials or explanation of strats. Was curious if I'm missing a video out there that can be helpful in some spots. For example, I can't figure out what the bird manip is in the first level, some people seems to pause for a short time then always end up on the left side. I cannot quite figure out how to do that consistently, so any advice on that spot (and a few others) would be greatly appreciated.

This is an amazing resource MTK, thanks for making this! Really wish I had this before starting to learn the run, but this is an incredible map and route for each level that should definitely help new runners. Great job MTK and thanks for doing a such a great service for the community!

Ok great, thanks for the response! I've been working more on the run, so I don't need them as much as I did a week ago, but just need to try and avoid the one in 7-2B. All the others are easy to not get, but that one I seems to hit 50% of the time cause there's an enemy that spawns at the top of the screen right where it is. I'll probably be able to avoid that with more practice, but I've also solved my own problem by getting better :). Thanks again, hope to drive my time lower in the near future.

Hey, I've been routing and trying to learn the Low% J run, and have a question about grabbing 1ups. It doesn't say anything explicitly in the rules if they are allowed or not (does a 1up count as a 100% health pick up?), so I wanted to check to see if they were allowed for low%. I don't care if they are or aren't I just want to know before I start making runs because: (1) there is one spot in 7-2B that is hard to avoid getting one while slashing an enemy, and (2) there are several in easy to get places along the route, which can save the need for a potential game over screen (I suck so I die enough for game overs when I don't pick up extra lives). I've read some previous posts and I know this category is quite controversial, so I just want to know what the general feeling about 1-ups are to help plan my routing. I know it doesn't matter, but in NG1 and NG2 the rules also do not say anything explicitly about grabbing 1ups, so this may be a question specifically for NG3 low%, or all three NG's.

Thanks! I'll start studying right away!

Thank you so much dude! I've never beat the game Any% so I'm learning it damageless, any strats or tips would be very welcome :)

holy toledo, i guess the question was answered since i see a damageless category added. thanks to whoever did that!

Hey, I have a question about doing a CV1 damageless run. I hadn't seen the category, so I started to route one out, but someone told me there is a ROM hack that is one hit knock out that essentially is damageless. I still want to do a damageless run, but dont want to do it on a rom hack, just on the vanilla game. So my question is if I want to do damageless can this only be done on the rom hack, or would it be possible to make it its own category under the main game and not using the rom hack?

Curious if anyone would be interested in doing some Kabuki races in the coming weeks/months? There was a lot of success with the recent Ninja Gaiden races to bring attention to the game and speedrun, and I think that would be a good way to show more people how awesome this game is. Obviously it would be Any%, and I would be happy to arrange/commentate/etc. for the tourney. Just want to see if anyone else would be interested.

thanks for making the board so quick! i just changed my text below in the description to say all chests in stead of 100%, so thats why its re-submitted

That sounds like a great idea to call it All Chests, i support that.

yah i just came in to say that as well. not every chest has something in it, so there should be a different name for the category other than 100% or 100% all chests. Open to suggestions and congrats on the new WR nesmaster!

Will do! I have work/childcare for the next few hours, so hopefully nobody runs this before I get back to my computer tonight. Should be able to get a run up rather quickly since I routed this the past 2 days, so I'll be sure to make and submit the run tonight.

I will also attach with it the rules I am using/making up regarding what is 100%!

hey everyone. first, im sorry that my run is causing some controversy within the community. I did it because I had seen Slackanator running Ninja Gaiden and Double Dragon Pacifist, and then recently CHX and Edo87 also completed NG pacifist. This came around the time I got my goal time of sub 40 in Any% Glitchless, so I was looking for a new category to try, and this piqued my interest. The run was definitely tough for me, but to be fair I have only played this game for 2 months at this point, so it might have been tough for me but a lot easier/quicker for a more experienced player. While the run doesn't exactly have many tough tricks/spots, it is absolutely nerve-racking to be focused on your every movement in every screen for 59 minutes (again, this time could be brought down by a more experienced player to probably sub 40). I thought it would be a cool 'new' way to play the game that seemed to be building on the momentum in the Retro community to try these type of challenge runs. In addition, a lot of people have recently picked up this speed run (11 entries in the top 20 in Any% Glitchess within only the past few months), so I thought this would be a cool way to bring more people in to watch/play the game and bring some excitement to the community. Clearly some people in the community don't judge it to be either difficult or interesting, which is totally fine. I don't want this to be something that divides people who play this game, so I don't want to ruffle any feathers to push for its categorization. I'm really happy and proud to have gotten that run in for the first time, and appreciate the support people have shown me (thanks for your previous posts Seamless), but its clear there's not a general or high level interest in the category. No problem, I understand its not everyone's cup of tea. I will admit that its been somewhat frustrating to see some of the discussion about this, which has lead me to drop the game from my speedrunning schedule, and I'm not sure if/when I would even come back to it at this point since it seems I have caused more disruption than I had intended. This was the first game I ever learned to speedrun, and I'm sorry that I've caused a disruption just by trying to have fun. For now, I'm not playing the game anymore for the time being, and wish everyone luck that is.

I've done some more routing of the 100% and found something interesting. The game gives you (either clearly or hidden) shells to open every single chest, so it is possible to run a category 'All Treasure Chests'. However, you can use these shells in secret hidey holes that when you place them in, reveal either a fork, pipe, or hearts. The issue here is that there are more hidey holes than items that can 'open' them, so in fact it is impossible to get '100%' of all items in every level. So the 100% category could be just 'All Treasure Chests', which is actually a lot of fun to play with Ariel's bubbles maxed for power and distance. There might be a way to find the maximum allowable number of pipe/fork pickups given how many there are, but it is impossible to get every drop in the game. So after some though and routing, I think a cool/interesting/fun category extension could be 100% (All Treasure Chests). What do you all think? I already routed it a bit, if I get any feedback I'll run this tonight to make a 'first' time in the category :)

Hey, Im just learning this game, and realized there are lots of powerups that arent needed for fast times, but would be fun to collect for a 100% run. My first question, is wondering if this cateogry has been discussed before and would any one else be interested in it? My second question is , is there any guide for where all the items are? I first started routing it and getting every treasure chest (maybe treasure chest%), but then found out there are hidden items. What would 100% include, all pipe/forks, heart drops, etc.? I haven't found any resources that have the locations of hidden items listed, but I'm happy to route this out myself and share the findings with everyone here. Excited to hear anyones thoughts, this game is awesome!
