You might be missing a split, or the game split earlier because you re entered a room, which caused it to split incorrectly.

Hello everyone!

It's been about a week since the poll closed and the results are in!

With an overwhelming majority. We will be allowing visual game mods but they must not increase visibility to bosses, enemies, animals etc. to gain an advantage.

Below are the results of the poll. Thank you for voting

8%- All Visual Game Mods should NOT be allowed

8%- All Visual Game Mods SHOULD be allowed

72%- Visual Game Mods should be allowed, but Mods that increase visibility to gain an advantage should NOT be allowed(Enemies, Animals, Bosses, Boss Arenas, etc.)

12%- Only Mods ON Snake should be allowed(Headband, Guns, Camos, etc.)

Hello everyone!

There’s a discussion I want to have with you all when it comes to Metal Gear Solid 3 PC game mods. Mainly visual mods.

There have been so many sick visual game mods I’ve seen over the past few months since the PC release of MGS3, and people such as Totorock have been working extremely hard on beautiful visual mods for this game.

However, when talking about game mods, we all agree that they should NEVER give an advantage to the runner.

We already ban all sorts of mods that affect any sort of gameplay, but visual game mods can have the ability to give players an unfair advantage compared to those with no mods at all.

Two of the biggest sections that this can affect are visual mods that make bosses easier to see(The Boss hiding and The Boss in the final boss fight)

The discussion I want to have with you all, is mainly what visual game mods should and should not be allowed?

Which category of mods should we allow, or should we ban them all?

Should we only ban boss mods, and anything that affects their arena?

Your input here is extremely valuable, and we can make a vote later for what people think should happen.

Hello MGS3 Runners.

There was a discovery made recently that has forced a change for the "All Kerotans" category.

It was recently discovered that the 'Kerotan" rank on NG+ will still show(even if the player does not get all the Kerotans)if the previous save file had the "Kerotan" rank.

-What does this mean?

Although it is possible for verifiers to check every single Kerotan and see if it was shot, there is still a hint of doubt that the rank could still be achieved without hitting certain Kerotans(Bike sections).

-Moving Forward

Kerotan runs MUST be done on NG and not NG+. Previous runs that were ran on NG+ will not be removed, as the discovery wasn't made until recently

I've listened and taken to heart what everyone has been saying.

When it comes to Mods and Runners, communication is key and this something we failed at.

There have been mistakes we have made as moderators, and we are sorry to those who are unhappy with the board changes.

The influx of runs and potential new runners were so abundant, and we were excited to see the MGS3 leaderboards finally popping off for the first time in a very very long time. It seemed like everyone who was actively participating in the discussion were fully with a game change idea, so we decided to expedite a decision.

It's been about 3 weeks since the boards have been put up and there have been so many people submitting runs. The activity is something I've dreamed about for this game ever since I started running in 2021. It is a shame that some people are not happy with the decision that we made, and I apologize if you think I ignored your complaints/did not take your ideas to heart, because it is something I definitely did. At the end of the day, the boards are more active than it's ever been and halting this would ruin the experience for newer runners and for those that have been eager to submit their runs. I truly appreciate Major's post, and I know he is someone who cares dearly for the past present and future of this game. His ideas are something I can completely understand and it's out of concern for those who did not participate in the thread.

Moving forward, we will not be reverting the boards back to the previous state, but we will do better to ensure that everyone's voices will be heard for future decisions. MGS3 runs have changed my life and I only want what is best for this community of runners.

This thread will be locked, but if you have any complaints or ideas for future changes, you can directly DM me on SRDC or Discord. I will take every single idea and thought into consideration.

I thank you so much for reading and I hope to see everyone continue running MGS3!

  • Do you agree with the Game Split for SRDC

Absolutely, however I do not think splitting HD Version and Master Collection is necessary. Both game are “Metal Gear Solid 3 HD Edition”, and there’s no real reason imo why we should have a separated board for that. People running on old hardware would be at a disadvantage, but that’s just how it is.

My suggestion is having Metal Gear Solid 3 HD as one whole board(including Master Collection), and having every single time from past HD versions there.

The board would be split between Console and PC, due to the fact that PC has multiple tools to assist in running such as removing loads which could change the timing method.

  • Do you agree or disagree with the HD Emulator board removal?

I agree with the EMU board removal, because of the fact that it was a means for the game to be played on PC, but with the Master Collection out, I don’t see a reason for it existing still.

  • Which timing method do you prefer specifically for MGS3 MC PC - Loadless IGT or RTA?

Loadless RTA is the timing method I prefer by a lot. By going with Loadless IGT, we’re directly messing around with the game’s data and it’s just not something I’m comfortable trusting in a Speedrun sense. Also in my testing, the IGT has been known to be jumpy, so I don’t like the notion of my IGT being messed up due to that.
