Since I was added as a moderator recently, I went ahead and made a few changes. Timing will now end when "Finish!" is displayed at the final minigame since the old timing was arbitrary in requiring two of the final five textboxes before the credits to be cleared, and this will also eliminate anyone losing time to a 1-up after the final minigame. I fixed all of the runs on the board to fit this timing method, but I still have a sheet with all of the old times in case we ever need them. Secondly, I changed the name of "All Minigames" to simply "100%" since it seemed most people were referring to it as this anyway, and it fits better on the titles of people's splits.

So I found it kind of strange that there was a rule for Low% about not spending any star coins since this didn't change the route from Any% at all. However, since the Warpless route DOES involve using star coins to buy levels, what if there was a Low% Warpless category? Not only would this have a few different levels than Warpless, but it would also eliminate the ability to fly over a lot of the levels, and make some of the secret exits only accessible by Racoon Mario impossible, thus changing the route even more. And speaking of secret exits, why not make a Low% No Secret Exits category? With a game that's already full of weird speedrun categories, why not add even more?

Also, since some of the other categories for this game are similar to SMW, I figured, why not make a No Leaf category similar to No Cape. I came up with a new power up route and plan on doing a run of this later today. But anyway, I have a few questions: where should I submit the run? Would this be added as a new category or a category extension? Also, what should be the name of this? I was thinking either Any% No Leaf, Leafless, or Racoonless.

Finally, how about making extended categories for individual levels where you're allowed to use the White Tanooki suit or a power star in reserve or even both? It would be interesting since these are banned in the normal IL runs. Also a low% IL category would be cool. And if you add me as a mod I’d be happy to add these categories myself. :D

Lately we’ve been getting a LOT of submissions containing milliseconds. I just wanted to post this reminder that milliseconds are ONLY used for Any% runs under 25:00 and nothing else, so PLEASE make sure not to include them in your submission time. Also make sure you are submitting the same time for with and without loads. It may not seem like a big deal but when every other submission is getting these things wrong, it can be tedious for mods to have to edit all the runs.

It's been known for quite some time now that the Wii and Wii U do not have consistent loading times for this game, and while this is pretty negligible for most people, it can make a big difference for top runs. From the runs we've timed so far, loading times can vary by more than 10 seconds for an Any% run and are not even consistent on each Wii, meaning someone could miss out on getting a PB because of having slower load times than their previous run. For the sake of allowing top runners to compete on the same playing field, it was decided some leaderboard changes should be made regarding the "top runs" which at the moment are considered to be the Any% runs under 25 minutes.

The following is the list of the changes that were made:

  • Runs under 25:00 are ranked by a "without loads" column
  • Runs ranked without loads also now use milliseconds to prevent ties
  • For categories besides Any%, top runs may be ranked without loads if mods decide that it makes an important difference (i.e. a player gets a time that is WR without loads but not with loads)

In the future, the barrier for runs being ranked without loads will be expanded (most likely to 25:30), but this change was made now, so that the Any% leaderboard could be more fair. I will be updating this thread as more changes regarding loads are made.

Shoutouts to FadeVanity, PidgeyProwler, TheCodingBoy, Lachurs, Gix01, and R0main for helping to make this change :)

During 1-Cannon, collect the 8 red coins to put a gold flower into your reserve. Then, instead of getting the normal exit in M-1, get the secret exit along with coins 1 and 3. Don’t get coin 2 since this coin requires gold flower which will replace your tanooki suit. After M-1 secret, go to M-A and use the gold flower there. This speeds up the level by about 5 seconds. M-A gold flower strats can be seen in Juice’s All Castles WR. After M-A, go back to M-1 and get the normal exit along with the second coin. You should finish the level as Fire Mario with a leaf in reserve. Do M-2 as Fire Mario and damage boost through the urchin at the end. Equip your reserve leaf in the room with coin 3. From here, the route is the same as before until your second visit to World M, where you can skip M-1 secret and M-A, since you already did them, and take the faster overworld path to M-3 and continue as normal.

This had been theorized for awhile, but wasn't really worth the time it saved until burner clip was found. Even now, I wouldn't suggest using this route unless you're going for WR because burner clip is pretty difficult.

As a new runner of this game, I figured any% would be the easiest category to start with. I did a run through of the game doing all the glitches and they were all easy enough, except for one. The credits warp. I tried for hours and couldn't get this glitch a single time. However, then I tried something different. I had seen Greenalink's video that showed how you could wrong warp to Ganon's Castle as child Link. I tried that glitch and was able to finish the game as child link pretty easily. The problem is there's no category for beating Ganon as quick as possible. I think an "Any% No Credits Warp" or "Beat Ganon" category would be great for newer runners who can't do glitches with the blue warps and don't feel like learning a 4 hour glitchless run. On top of that, actually beating the final boss makes the any% run a million times more interesting. I'll be doing a run of this soon so don't worry about there being no runs of this new category, but honestly I'm sure more people will want to run it.

For the first rabbit, you hold left and tap down once you enter the wall, but what are the inputs after the second rabbit? I've tried lots of things but always end up either falling and dying or clipping back in.

What's this thing about taking 13 seconds off your time because of "load times"? What are the requirements for being allowed to do this? And shouldn't it be added to the rules?
