It sounds like you are playing the remastered version.

This is problematic since Tt-games released an update that removed the function to skip the cutscenes.

That means over 60 min extra and we don't know what to do with this yet. If you have the opportunity I recommend playing the WiiU version.

I spent the whole day learning Kefka@narshe playing on SNESClassic. Can I submit a run on SNESClassic or will it get rejected?

(Classic is listed on the left above the follow/unfollow button and ffmonks run is on Classic)

LEGOCity Undercover doesn't have any active mods at the moment. We need to change the structure of IL's and there is a new WR that needs to be verified.

May I request to be added as mod for www.speedrun.com/lcu

Thanx,

It looks like Ozotuh resigned as moderator for all the LEGO games. Does JosephHTobinJr or Phionex read this and if not could I moderate LCU?

I have given it some thought and come to the conclusion that the current setup with StoryBB/StoryNoBB/Freeplay doesn't work.

  1. Out of the 15 IL's only 5 have super builds that needs to be built to complete the mission any%. That means that in the other 10 storyBB and storyNoBB will be the same time.

  2. We have the problem that if you compare a game like Super Mario Galaxy that have the "bank" function you can deposit and withdraw bits in that game. In LEGOCity you just have the bricks in your counter and can't go into a mission without bricks.

  3. When you finish the main story you unlock the x2 brick multiplier and that means that a brick that gives 10k gives you 20k instead. Should all bricks be counted as how much they would give without the multiplier?

The only setup that is logical is to have only "Story" with restricted equipment and "Freeplay" where all upgrades are available. In both modes you build the superbuilds with already collected bricks.

I plan to go back to playing LEGOCity soon after I'm done with some of my backlog of games and to get a run for all IL's and then maybe some full game runs for 4:56:xx

I think the confusion is that in most LEGO games you have a hub world with chapters that you play and the chapters are the game. In LEGOCity you have the open world city that you can run around in and then there are special assignments. Playing through them all takes about 2 hours and 5 minutes so the "missions" or IL's are only about 40% of LEGOCity Undercover. The rest of the game takes place in the city.

If you look at https://www.speedrun.com/run/y67r6o0m the "Some Assault" mission begins at 27:20 and then at 32:40 the game explains the "replay" function.

We grow and learn as a community :)

There isn't really a "story mode" at all in the game. Instead there are special assignments and the possibility to replay these. I think that it is a high probability that all IL runs are going to be on "replay missions" as otherwise you need to play the whole game from the beginning if you want another try at a mission.

I submitted an IL run for the Scrapyard "Story BB" category but Ozotuh changed it to the freeplay category. Maybe it's me who don't understand but isn't the difference between story and freeplay that your equipment is restricted in story and not in freeplay?

My run sticked to what you have at that point playing it from start to finish and should thereby be classified as "story BB".

Yes. The alternative would be to say that you need to collect as many superbricks as you need to build for that level. For example in the mine you would need two 10k bricks and two 1k bricks to build the linecar or what ever it is called.

I would like to join and do all the IL's. How are we going to do with the superbuilds? I think we should allow banking bricks like the Mario Galaxy 2 community allow "Banktoad" for starbits.

LCU speedrunning has reached a point where we have to start considering 1 sec improvements. One thing in general that can improve combat is that being defensive and wait a second or two and then counter attacking with X can often be faster then attacking with A or Y.

The enemy AI in combat in LCU seems very random and every fight is a new situation. I'll start a thread where we can go through them all and try and find consistent strategies.

I'll start with the fight in "Smash 'n' Grab" which is one of the easier ones that you can get perfectly every time. Throw one in the water and X the other one.

It was a fully legit run. I know I can do better though so I might do more runs for 4:57

Ok so today I got a 4:58:45 playing with English as language. Im glad if we can scrap danish. My estimate is that danish is 30 sec faster up to KungFool but even or slower after that. Sounds weird. Hopefully StiWiiRage can investigate if he has time :)

The run has 35 seconds of unluck where the truck you should follow after the observatory went a different path. Then I was clumsy and lost 25 sec around Breaking and reenter. Without those two it would have been a 4:57.

Unbelievable. I tried again today and the game crashed again after 1 hour 50 minutes. I was at the most 50 sec ahead of my 4:59:26. I have spent over 60 hours now since end of May practising and running. Have to get that run and then I can retire for now. I aim at a 4:57 but will probably settle with a 4:58. I'll make another attempt on Thursday.

It would be nice if the game would allow you to play it. I did a run yesterday and it crashed after 3hours and 10 minutes. I tried again today and it crashed after 1hour and 20 minutes.

My estimate is that it crashes maybe every 30-40 hours or so. In times like this you need to be patient and try again tomorrow.

Today when I was grinding the game I found a skip that makes it possible to skip the crappy 35 second superbrick behind the police station and replace it with a 8 second brick in the mine. Really easy to get. Back to practise and then for some WR attepts next week.

How are you going to do with the special assignments that have super builds? In the any% most super bricks are collected in the city and very few in the assignments.

I did a run on Saturday and got a 5:00:32 (english) and then a run today in the Danish language and got a 4:59:26

7 sec WR :)

Since Waltek's run in February about 50 sec of improvments have been found and its unclear how much faster Danish is. My gut feeling is that it saves up to 30-50 sec in the begininng but is perhaps even slower in the late game.

I'm gonna try and do a few more attemps over the next weeks. A 4:58 maybe 4:57 should be within range.

Trajan6 years ago

How much faster exactly is Danish? Is it really 18 sec just in the beginning?

Trajan6 years ago

Maybe the engine is built so that two solids that form a wall can be climbed because the hit collection is a unit off. So that you can stand on a solid even though its a wall. This would mean that many flat walls might be climbable.

Not sure how to explain. I'll think on it for a while.
