Great stuff, thank you guys!
Tekken 2 doesn't have a story mode, so it can't have the same Any% category like Tekken 7. You can only have Individual Level Time Attack runs, which we have, or All Default Characters which is the equivalent of Any%.
Hi again all,
All Tekken submissions are now re-opened, and IGT is currently being retroactively added to runs of affected categories. For sake of ease, not all runs from games of Tekken 3-5 will have IGT added by me, only RTA WR runs in categories with 3 or more runners as well as runs that are close to RTA WR time. Feel free to add IGT to your old runs in relevant categories!
Hi all,
I apologise for the length of time that's gone by since I made this post, and the fact that this timing method that I mentioned has still not been incorporated.
We tried to initially incorporate it, but making a new timing for specific categories proved to be difficult on this site, so it laid indefinitely abandoned.
However, I'm planning on beginning the implementation of the new timing method now. Please bare with me as I'm busy with University and I don't have a lot of free time, so the roll-out will be occurring one game at a time. Until the roll-out is complete per game, new submissions will not be accepted.
The new timing method will also be implemented into the following categories:
• All Tekken Tag Tournament Arcade Mode categories • All Tekken 4 Story Mode categories • All Tekken 5 Story Mode categories
I mentioned in my initial post last year that Sum of IGTs would not be considered as RTA remained a fully adequate comparison method for the later Tekken games. That is now no longer the case. The main reason this is being implemented is because the BEST run should ALWAYS be the WR. Several runners, myself included, are guilty of swapping to a console with faster load times to take WRs with inferior runs, so I believe this is the best option going forward for all Arcade/Story Mode categories.
There is no ETA on when this change will be implemented, again due to the fact I am very busy with University and other moderators are also busy. If any series moderator does wish to help with retiming old runs, please contact me privately.
Feel free to reply to the post if you have any questions. Thanks guys!
Hi! I don't think adding Arcade time attack leaderboards is a great idea, as the last Arcade version (Ver. B ) is very similar to the console release, which is much more widespread than Arcade versions at this point. Also, console versions have their own Time Attack mode which doesn't need to worry about particular settings, while I believe the Twin Galaxy rule set is arbitrary and if Arcade runs were allowed, there would be argument to add support for runs of every setting type and every arcade version. I believe this is why Time Attack mode was created, so there would be a standard.
As long as the on-screen timer is running, that's fine. The runner can adjust their submitted time in post to their actual time.
Hi! Thanks for those questions.
Tekken Force mode should be timed from when the character is selected, the rules on the site are wrong and I'll change that.
You can play either category with unlockable characters. In theory you can play Unlock Dr. B with multiple characters, but I don't see the reason for it as the runner likely has one preferred character for the run.
As long as the initial split is the moment you select your character, when you split in-between then and beating the category doesn't affect the run, so it's up to personal choice.
Hope that helped!
Sorry about the inconsistency in approving runs. Your first run should not have been accepted either.
You can add a timer retroactively with movie editing software, and we'll reassess the run.
Yeah, that's understandable. Usually I stream my attempts, and people can look through the VoD to see what my settings are at from the start, but because this was a locally recorded run (I didn't want to stream this as I just wanted to do a run without bothering with all of the stream prep), I just edited it to show the main run.
I'm a little shocked that someone would go so far as to accuse me of cheating without any real proof, but I guess this is a lesson to be learned that no one is past scrutiny.
I hope you keep doing runs! Just take a look at what TegoSamego has been doing in Tekken 4 recently. He's a new member of the community who's worked hard and is competing with me for WRs currently. I hope you work to keep improving your time on Tekken 3 also.
I just didn't think it would be a huge deal to show the options before submitting. For Tekken 3 specifically it's not necessary, as I and other users can very clearly tell what difficulty the AI is set to just by watching them during a run.
Just because I'm a moderator does not mean I shouldn't be allowed to submit my own runs. Other moderators are perfectly allowed to view my runs after and raise disputes with me, which has happened in the past. At this point I'd like to think that what I've done for this particular community over the past years is enough to warrant some trust in my integrity.
No disrespect, but I did that run in a single attempt because my original run was not optimised, and it was easy to beat that time by a large margin. Common sense by comparing how that runs play out compared to my Easy or Medium PBs would absolutely show you that the run is on Hard. I agree that on one hand that users could show their settings before a run and it's appreciated, but we don't make it required because it's very easy for a runner to splice that footage and then record a different run in a different difficulty. I and other moderators would much rather watch a run to confirm that the AI is behaving as it should, and I think if you do that with my run you'll be satisfied.
Hi!
It is true that it doesn't say anywhere in the rules that you have to show the settings before starting your run, it just says that those settings need to be in effect. I wouldn't cheat on my runs, as other people can vouch. I've spent literal days trying to beat tough runs in other Tekken games (most recently getting back a WR in Tekken 4 by 2 seconds after 20+ hours of grinding). You should be able to tell that this run is on Hard just by looking at it; the AI is immediately difficult from stage 1 onward, which is not the case in Easy or Medium. The AI will almost never tech roll before stage 6 on Medium, which is another tell that the game's on Hard.
Good luck if you choose to keep running this category! I hope you keep getting better and give me a tough time :)
Hey guys, I never owned Tekken 6 for the PSP so I'm not sure what categories would be possible. I'll take a look into it when I have the time.
Don't have much to add except that this was the single best event I have EVER been to. Everything was perfect. The only comment was that the hotel rooms' AC weren't working. But everything else was perfect! Free ice creaaaaaaaaaam
Also, I paid for a hoodie but I got there late and supply had ran out. Staff said they were happy to give a refund but I haven't had one yet, so I just wanted to post here while I remembered as a friendly reminder. :) Thank you guys, you've outdone yourself!
No, there isn't enough popularity for us to make separate categories for Arcade versions of the older games. This is because of a lot of things, such as differences in Arcade versions (e.g. Tekken 2 had multiple versions such as Ver. A, Ver. B, and Tekken 5 has T5.0, T5.1, etc.), differences in the settings on physical arcades, the fact that it's very difficult to confirm arcade times... Console runs are standardised which is why we prefer those.
I would recommend either getting a new PS2 or running on an emulator on PC. This is what the majority of users do, so it keeps things standardised.
Hey, it's possible to quit back to the main menu I believe with either Start + Select or getting onto the arcade menu with Select(?) and quitting. Sorry for the uncertain answer, I haven't played T5 in a while, but there's definitely a way to exit without turning off the PS2.
It's just a category I made for the sake of it. If the servers go down then that's that. But it hasn't had runs anyway so it doesn't make much difference either way.
