Hi all! Here's something that's been bugging me for decades, especially now that I'm occasionally spredrunning the game. Whenever I run towards a door that I want to open, I already start mashing X shortly before I touch the door, so as to open it as fast as possible, but sometimes Harry just bumps into the door instead, stopping his run with his hands, before he finally regains his balance (I'm sure you all know the animation I mean) and X opens the door, while at other times it works perfectly fine and he opens the door without any of this bumping.

Now I feel kinda stupid for asking, because maybe it's super obvious, but... Is this related to the timing of when you press X? Is there a perfect timing for opening doors, so I should stop mashing X shortly before the door and instead find out when the perfect timing is? Or is this "bumping" into doors just completely random and nothing I can control? I mean, technically, it probably doesn't matter that much, but sometimes it happens so often that I feel like I'm definitely losing some precious seconds because of that.

Thanks in advance and keep up the amazing runs, everyone! :)

Hi! A friend of mine has been speedrunning RE2 on his Gamecube (PAL) and he's become pretty good at this point, so him and I thought of recording his run and submitting it here, but then we learnt that 50Hz is banned (and after seeing how much faster 60Hz is, I certainly understand why), so... we thought of getting a Japanese version of the game, so he can record that one, but...

...PS is out of the question, since - as far as I understand it - an emulator is not allowed? So we'd have to get a JP copy of the game (which is not that expensive), but also a PS1, PS2 oder PS3 that can play it (which might be more expensive). Also, the PS version is a bit annoying, because you cannot skip the cutscenes.

...the JP GameCube version I currently mostly only find for over >120 €. Also, wouldn't we also need a Japanese GameCube, cause the European GameCube would probably still play the game at 50Hz, even if the game is JP, or am I mistaken?

...the PC version we couldn't find anywhere at all, so far...

So... yeah, we'd really like to submit a run, but we have no idea how to get our hands on a version that we can use without having to pay a fortune and sell our kidneys. :(

Do you guys have any advice?

Hi everyone! A while ago a friend of mine showed me his speedrunning skills of Resident Evil 2 and it became a custom that everytime we meet he'd do a RE2 speedrun. That eventually made me remember how when I was a kid I had once decided to run through Silent Hill 1 as fast as possible, back when I didn't even know there was something like speedrunning. So eventually I suggested to my friend that I also try my hand at a speedrun, choosing Silent Hill as my game. Ever since that day, our almost ritual like custom evolved into him speedrunning RE2 and then me speedrunning SH whenever we meet for a weekend. :D I was pretty bad at first, but recently I got much better, to the point that I started to consider the thought of actually recording it.

...which I finally did yesterday! It was a pretty nice run and I ended with 44 minutes and 7 seconds in-game timer. :)

Now, here's the catch, though: I do run it in Normal Difficulty, Bad+ Ending, but when I wanted to submit my video to this site, I noticed that for Silent Hill 1 there is no category for that. There only is "NG (Easy)", "NG Good+ (Easy)", "UFO Ending" and then, under "Miscellaneous" there also is "NG Good+ (Normal)", "NG (Melee Only)" and "10 Star". I guess, mine would be "NG (Normal)"?

So, uhm, apart from saying hi to everyone, I'd actually also like to ask, if that means I cannot submit my run, because that category does not exist? Or can I submit it and have that category created? Or how does that work here?

Anyway, nice to meet everyone here. Keep on running! ;)
