I think this may be filed under the wrong category lol

I noticed the humanity counter is blocked in the Any% 1st place run by Alt F4, but it was approved. I was reading the run rules and saw that this is not allowed. Is this a meme or what

Still unsure if the in-game timer is accurate or reliable, so the default time for the leaderboard will still be real-time.

however, we understand that the final time is converted like so:

Example: 2:19:05 = 2195 seconds = 45 minutes 41 seconds

The rightmost 2 digits are just a 1-9 timer, every time it ticks to 10, it adds to the "2:19" digits, and basically just counts the seconds up. You can then easily translate that to a full number of seconds, in this case, 2195, and convert it.

Any time converter will do, here's one I used: https://www.tools4noobs.com/online_tools/seconds_to_hh_mm_ss/

Puri did a stream last night with some commentary here and there about set ups for certain skips, check out his past broadcasts for that. However, there's no real guide or tutorial yet, so you are best off watching the current record and learning from that. Also feel free to join the star wars speedrun discord and ask questions there. https://discord.gg/PKb9ApJ

But yeah, when I picked up the game (and puri as well), we just kind of watched and tried to replicate the tricks already found. Puri found a lot of consistent set ups for the harder tricks in the run. Maybe sometime soon we can all put together a guide for newer runners. But join that discord if you're interested!

Yes, my main concern is consistency, and since HiSpeed is manually controlled this is difficult to nail down without making it overly complex.

I did some research. I saw that the combat transition screen looks like it goes the same speed when it's in normal and hispeed mode. However, after some testing, I found that even though the battle transitioned screen looked the same, the battle scene still loads faster on HiSpeed mode, even if you were to disable HiSpeed during the transition. Frustrating.

I opened up CheatEngine to see if I could find any useful addresses that could be used in an automatic F1 scripting program of some sort. I found the battle flag address (values 0 = no battle, 1 = triggered battle, in battle, and rewards screen). I'm no prgrammer, but theoretically if the process of turning HiSpeed off and on, before and after combat automatically, that would make timing a bit more consistent.

@Windows You make a good point. One of my fears was that too many rules would make it slightly too complicated. I played a bit more with F1 on while moving around and you're totally right, there is arguably a skill to be mastered in hi-speed movement.

Again, it is just for fun, and just for me as of right now. I'm not trying to reinvent running this game by any means. That perspective helps. I may just go the combat-only route. Er, non-combat only route.

@Furry hah, I that hadn't occurred to me!

I'll repost when I sleep on it (Though it's really just something I'm going to be doing, I'll post my thoughts here anyways after I play around a little more)

edit: last thoughts today, I guess my ultimate goal is to be able to do the any% and/or 100% routes as usual but with Hi-Speed activated in some way, but certain things feel TOO fast in that mode (like combat), and button presses sometimes register multiple presses and what-not. I guess there is also a discrepancy with different PC's going different speeds. I suppose it's something that will take some time to evolve if I choose to do it this way.

Hello FF8 runners! I've been watching and becoming more interested in FF8 runs recently, and have wanted to do one for a long time. However, my schedule with work and school doesn't allow for such long speedruns, so I thought of a new custom category. I'd like input from current runners to iron out rules before I begin learning a route. I feel your experience running the game will help sharpen my idea.

So the concept is to use F1 (High Speed Mode) except for when you're able to move or be in combat. My goal is to establish consistent rules, which is difficult since it's a manually controlled "game booster". Here's my document so far, let me know if anyone has recommendations to make it more consistent or a potentially competitive category.

Better category names are also helpful...

layout looks simple and slick without being too distracting, which is all great. could you also do a quick example of the text being really light blue instead of cream? just curious how that would look

Also, although the font you use would certainly look better than this, but it might be funny to make the NASA text look similar to real NASA: http://www.dafont.com/nasalization.font

I can offer judging submissions cause I'm just shit at everything else

Non-24 seems nice, except for the fact that we'd be chillin in hotel rooms for many hours of the nights (which, in turn could potentially create noise issues from the rooms).

It would also be nice to have a place to go downstairs at all times to play games and hang out. there are tradeoffs in both options, I'm ok with either though. First marathon will be a fun learning experience in that regard. Interested to see which one NASA goes with.

For non-24 hour room rentals, would we have to remove and set up the tech every time the room opened and closed? Or would they allow us to leave everything in there?

More 24/7 options is really appealing plus the free airport shuttle (at the Radisson). I can swing the extra cost but I understand that many others may have a tight budget.

Does the Hampton have airport shuttle options too? I couldn't find that info on the site. They only show "typical minimum charge" for a taxi from both airports to be $45-$65. Uber is probably cheaper than that, but I'm wondering if there's a shuttle to the Hampton.

Both look good though, and the Hampton seems easier on the wallet.

Toronto and Chicago look like front runners for location. I personally don't mind either of those and can't think of anything better, unless there's something more westward (I'm in Atlanta so idgaf, I would be flying anyways)

Rental vacation homes/cottages sound fun, if I were to go I wouldn't mind shelling out the extra cheese for those.
