tldr: melonDS isn't a good choice until it improves

I don't think melonDS should be the only allowed emulator. It seems like I'm not the only one with problems using it. Car handling is completely messed up. They steer to either side randomly, sometimes don't let you steer in one direction at all, and accelerate strangely. Different cars have completely different issues. This is definitely a melonDS problem, as it doesn't happen on real hardware or other emulators. I even tried redumping the game and emulating on another PC including entirely different input hardware. There is no difference when using keyboard or controller.

Using an older version of melonDS seems to be a temporary fix (0.7 didn't have any of these handling issues) but it transitions between menus much slower than the latest version (0.9.3), which leads to another problem: the game loads menus and tracks at different speeds on actual hardware and various emulators. This would mean full game runs on emulator could be several minutes faster, an obvious unfair advantage.

If melonDS is used because of "accuracy," then why are there so many inaccuracies compared to just using a DS? Again, I'm not the first to post about it messing with handling.
