I appreciate the suggestions, My route has changed a little since you last saw it. I found a warp to the golem in Ephyra and it's possible though tough to air climb and jump into the tomb. So i have been skipping the axe spear entirely I don't think it's faster to run versus warp to the ghouls.

Reloading Karum is to remove the angle skew glitch so I can use the stairs to warp in the final level, the stairs I warp with are inaccessible during the vampire fight unfortunately.

I've been using the AL Farum warp you mentioned in chat using the Karum rock it works flawlessly, thanks.

I've looked for a Temple of Ianna warp a lot and haven't found anything that saves time, there is a warp using Al Farum but it's really slow. There is the warp using Gorge of Orlok that takes you beyond the angel skew but it requires a really long air sink and that trick is utterly cancerous.

Hats off to ISlide for finding the glitch all you are doing is interrupting a mantle that results in every mantle from then on taking you to the map co-ordinates of your previous mantle until your game is restarted.

I used the level editor to find maps which share co-ordinates for the purposes of going fast but I'm a bit tapped out on the process now so I uploaded the compiled maps and tool so maybe other people can find faster warps.

The level editor is in Spanish and a bit tricky to use but I made a very basic how to document

I'd propose two categories: All Runes and Any Runes and that's it. Leave character a filter like it is. Put Tesseract's hilarious run in resources. It makes no sense to have runs which use separate timing methods on the same board. Segmented should not be a category if you want to run segmented stuff just do ILs.

I've just started doing runs of this game and I can't help but notice that the categories make no sense. Cubeface's "single segment" 2:06:35 loads saves making them segmented, Tesseract's run uses lolSDA timing and "No Physic Glitches" doesn't work as a category as ledge warping which is arguably more broken than angle skewing isn't a physics glitch. I'm also running bad ending because it's faster.

Without any major new discovery PS2 would be significantly slower due to loading (PS2 loads are really, really long), not being able to move at solo speed in towns and not being able to do some skips. The only thing I can remember unique on PS2 is spell animation cancelling being instant which is irrelevant due to item spam anyway.

Three minutes ahead entering Liangshan with minutes to save for easy 1:49:xx and the run dies because both Female Oni get stuck on a rock and I can't kill the Sanctuary Guard due to his magic resist. I am so close to uninstalling this shit heap of a game.

Looks like deleting the quicksave file every so many attempts prevents it. I did a playthrough with the patch and it didn't fix the string crash or allow skipping the Temple Plaza cutscene so I think it should be banned as it includes hax.

I got a 1:55:40 that lost a lot of time but unless something new is found i'll probably drop this game on my next PB.

My patience is wearing very thin with this game, without having changed anything with my setup I have had 5 crashes in 2 days no error message just on leaving an area it's crashing all of a sudden.

Haha this tech is exactly what I'd expect from Summoner... I played around with it for about 40 minutes and only got it 4 times, 3 of those were on the right side of the door. I'm not sure what's happening is he clipping into the door and just walking though like you can do with summons or is the door losing collision? Idk. I'm not sure which is a more agonising prospect: looking for a consistent setup or trying it on every other door and gate in the game looking for skips. Whoever tries it is better prep their hugbox. ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ Not it.

I've already checked Blue Imp before Pijian talk to Jekhar with it, suicide and leave with Jekhar works just fine. Also the Liangshan skip makes getting the Spinesplitter trivial which makes backstab on the Jade Temple riders and Murod viable, heck you can use Poison Elemental at Jade Temple to trip the riders and talk to Qifeng.

I don't think scripts should be allowed, they automate things a human can't do (for example with a script I can shop noticeably faster than I can on my own) and are open for abuse. I'm okay with binding keyboard to mouse though.

Modding a game is one of those things that if speed running is serious business can't be allowed, but is required to get some games working and overall can improve the experience so I do on runs I don't submit to leaderboards.

Don't worry about it speedrunning is a joke anyway. The QS/L skips are from Liifelike's run but my route and strats are mostly unchanged from the one I made a year ago. You need to equip the Ring of Darkness before doing the statue puzzle in the Catacombs for Blackfire to level up and get more than 11 hit points that might be why he was dying for you. I don't like my Catacombs strat but kiting was slower when I tested it. My Evil Joseph strat should just be trip with Red Minotaur then 2 backstabs to kill him but as you saw I got unlucky with the knockdowns but it's certainly faster than scroll spam. Yeah I have switched the Ikaemos strat and where I do skill menus so I can use Flece and Blackfire as he can slip passed the bacites the Minotaur can't. It's still a big reset spot for me and I detest Ikaemos and long for an early Priest King skip. I also have a better Wolong night route that saves about 20 seconds which involves getting Rosalind. I don't know what the sewers 1 time save is, I don't know a way to get into the palace plaza early or bypass the locked gates without opening them. You can skip the riders in Jade Temple but I couldn't find a way to escape the temple after the Murod fight as the door opening seemed tied to their being dead. I'm not sure what you are alluding to preventing him from teleporting unless it's some meme like paralysing him with the Frozen Club. I've seen Oni Murod take 500 damage from a backstab but I am not sure which animation made it do full damage so I decided to just spam spells. I'm not the grinding type, especially when there are other strats I don't know about so I might just wait for you to show your time saves before I do anymore. Do you know of any fix or patch that prevents the string error crash? Having to alt f4 the program twice in the run is pretty exceptional. I know there is a fan patch on the gog forums put I haven't tried it. Also has the community(lol) come to a consensus on whether binding keyboard functions to the mouse is permitted as the game doesn't have rebinding options.

I guess I ought to formalise my position on what has happened even though I haven't ran SH1 in two years and relinquished my mod status a long time ago.

Only allowing certain emulators, versions and configurations makes sense to me, it provides a standarisation and a modern machine will handle any emulator so the one which is "most accurate" to the gold standard of the console release should be used.

Back when I ran SH1 10 star these scripts weren't a thing. I am very dissapointed that samuca used external tools to gain an advantage while using an emulator and pretending his runs were "legit" as I explicitly asked him how he tracked his kills and he refused to give an answer. I don't care if someone wants to use tools to read memory addresses just as long as they aren't editing anything and are upfront about it because to be frank there are a million ways someone could "cheat" that would be impossible to detect so getting hung up on that is a waste. For example look at the cheatengine table BMJ made for SH2 or the routing streams I did of 2 and 3 while reading memory addresses.

I'd like to ask why punchy seems to be having to handle this on his own? I know he gives a shit about the leaderboards which as he made the google doc before this shit site existed but why Tekkie and Zorkiy aren't doing anything and staying silent after the fuss they threw when their mod status was removed a while ago I don't understand.

Because I don't moderate and don't really engage in any communities I never really considered this question.

I am certain it varies quite a bit across games which makes me think it's just up to the whims of the game's community or an artifact of a game's speedrunning evolution.

From what I see they include anything from old any% times from before skips were found almost like an archive, joke categories, fun stuff that people want to compete in but aren't considered serious and fulfilling abitrary criteria the game tracks but doesn't "finish" the game.

Wouldn't anything aside from "beat the game as quickly as possible without external means or cheats" be "miscellaneous"? I have seen leaderboards where categories that get enough competition are added and not considered misc.

I'd be a little surprised if there was a consensus, I'm just interested to see what people think or other communites us them for.

I was using summons to move around in areas you need to go to for items/triggers but not return to like the Iona catacombs, Ikaemos Palace and areas you just run into a trigger like returning to Iona. Their speed plus the ability to instantly KO them when they are far away from Joseph is handy though I needed to equip the ring of darkness before solving the catacombs puzzle so Blackfire Elemental had enough HP.

Yeah, I had enough money to buy everything to last until returning to Wolong at leaving Lenele after getting the Ring of Fire and Stone quests. Then in Wolong I had enough for the rest of the game from Boss drops and the Bow in the caverns. I guess you'd want to time if exploiting the health tonic trick is faster than getting amethysts in the palace.

My Ikaemos Priest King strat was the same as my strat for non multiple enemy or fire resistant bosses. Namely solo mode with highest level character and spam meteor scrolls while moving at least one party member without aggro far enough away so they can survive. It seems as though you can spam as many as needed without the game paused and even if the person using them is KO'd the damage from the scrolls they used is still counted. If you want to improve survivability pick up the Pyros Ring in the Giant Salamanka fight and there is the option to buy more when returning to Saanavarh.

About survivability, a chainmail tunic and chainmail leggings only costs 15000 and is available as early as after getting the ring of fire but faster when returning to Lenele under siege and that offers 55 protection. I don't know if a haramaki is better in any fight because I don't know which bosses use piercing, if any.

I sort of uninstalled the game and deleted my saves a week ago because going fast in this game is annoying and speedrunning in general sucks. I might be persuaded to reinstall it if you need help.

I'm not sure how movement speed works in this game. As far as I can tell the character speed stat determines how fast a character can move in the world and unless in solo mode the group moves at the speed of the slowest party member. Some summons are much faster than Joseph, Jekhar, Rosalind or Flece and in some situations but unless you can run into a trigger with a summon which warps the party it's useless.

Also, there seems to be an infinite money exploit at the start of the game where if your inventory is empty you can sell 3 health tonics and get them back by loading a new area, but it's not fast.

Coincidently I replayed this game recently and looked at speedrunning it but it's such a frustrating game to go fast in given how hit detection works and that every enemy in the game can inflict slow plus koing your party over and over to exit levels gets old fast. I put a route together. But can't see me try to run this. I also couldn't find a way to activate the boss fight in Ikaemos without using the daggers even after "glitching" into the room, the caverns of wolong can't be skipped without unlocking summon so I don't see a way to make that faster. Pretty much every boss was pyros ring + meteor scroll spam. Without a fast summon like Blackfire, Blood or Spirit of Lahara Iona is slow. BAckstab might be useful if you can get enough levels on Flece but then you'd need another person to tank.

If you want to bounce some ideas around I might be able to help.
