Let's just collect this in a thread for posterity.

Sewer Junction has a unique quirk where a Shield Bug is spawned in the ending trigger. This ending trigger (and only this one) is fired by any entity, not just marines. I've been told that it only fires once per second. If you manage to suicide just before the trigger fires, you can get a Mission Success without being in the end trigger. The previous Brutal ILs use this strat to save a second. But what has never really been clear is what the limit of this strat is.

Jhheight managed to get a suicide win from this far away, which is insane, it'd save several seconds to get it from this distance.

However, in my testing, I've found that the shield bug only appears at this distance: https://i.imgur.com/2BRLOY5.jpg I don't know if it can still fire the trigger while it's culled but I'd assume it can't. I've done a lot of attempts getting the suicide win to work at this distance, but no successes. I'd always assumed the shield bug has to be aggroed to trigger the ending, but if that were true, jh's instance wouldn't be possible.

It'd be great if there were any way to properly debug how this mechanic works and what its limits are so we can properly strategize around it.

In all my testing, I've always had to get close enough to the end to make that shield bug move in order to trigger the mission complete. It'd be great to somehow figure out the exact earliest spot to suicide. Edit: https://i.imgur.com/2BRLOY5.jpg

The shield bug loads in when you cross this line, so it'd make sense to me if that range is from where you could get your win. Your position seems a little further away, maybe you got lucky with the culling logic, maybe there's other factors I don't understand.

Optimal run for this would be at best 0:54. I killed a few 56 pace runs, 55 pace shouldn't be too hard, but it won't get lower than that.

Grenades instead of hornets is much better btw.

RD used to have a lot more glitches on a lot more campaigns, like the Super Roll. I miss being able to use those. If they started un-fixing speedrunning glitches, can they un-fix the Super Roll next?

If you can activate this thing just using a beta branch, that shouldn't be any problem in my eyes. If it requires console commands, it should be discussed - but I'm not an active runner, so don't put any weight on my opinion.

Yeah, there's some other weird but not apparently useful side effects. Sometimes if you load the same file again after getting stuck on it, it loads fine but the screen stays black until your next level transition.

I think this is a new glitch. I'm not sure if it's useful for anything. It's pretty complicated to test things for it, so I thought I'd upload it already in case other people want to help out.

STR:

  1. Have a save that can die very quickly
  2. Have another save on a different map
  3. Die on save 1
  4. Reload save 1
  5. Hit Esc to open the save menu again
  6. Die again
  7. While the screen fades out, load save 1
  8. On the death screen, load save 2 You have now loaded save 1's actors onto save 2's map. Also, you can't move your character in any way or interact with stuff around you. You can cast spells, though I'm not sure if they do anything. Attempting to save the game either fails, or crashes the game.

I wish there was an easier way to check coordinates in this game than just using the 'cheat goto x x' cheat - so you can figure out where to put your saves for a useful effect.

I just learned about the existence of OpenNox, an open repack of Nox with a bunch of additional features - mainly higher resolutions and windowed mode but also some cheats and debug features etc.

It seems to be based on patch 1.2, judging by available glitches. So far I haven't noticed any differences but then I haven't played through all of it yet.

It's not an official release, it's all community made, so runs on this version would only be available if there's no major differences and if moderators agree to allow it.

What do you all think?

Since multiple recent submissions have submitted incorrect times for their runs, there appears to be a need for clarification.

Full-campaign runs do not track in-game time. Full-campaign runs track from hitting Start Mission on the first level, to the Campaign Complete text at the end, and all menu time in between. Then load times are removed (manually, as we don't have an autosplitter to use) to get the final time.

Time spent menuing between levels counts. You can and should prepare character loadouts in advance to reduce this time. The in-game timer is not used, as any slowdowns make it inaccurate.

Nothing's stopping you from doing runs without OoB routes.

The leaderboard is for competition, so we're not going to list in-bounds runs until there is sufficient interest in competing for that category.

Whatever settings are fastest for you.

Lower difficulty makes aliens weaker but also makes marines run slower, so Brutal difficulty is theoretically fastest if you can survive it. And on some maps, Onslaught can be useful to spawn shield bugs in useful locations.

Wait hold up.

So changing the theme color changes all the important text links.

And there's both a light and a dark theme.

So every text color that's properly visible on light theme looks bad on dark theme and vice versa.

While it's not specifically against the rules as written, obviously you're supposed to get as few resources as possible in low%. Getting another skill is another resource, thus you're not getting low%.

Gamers look at yourselfs when you got into gaming was it to use tricks & glitches to get the quickest time or in this case play the game to unlock an ability to let you do it faster if it was quickest speed run while doing the Story sure but no we got into games because they took you too a different world and yes play quicker cause your friend beat your time. Speed runners, pro gamers, microtransactions, loot boxes these are not gaming these are a plight on gaming

Any form of forced movement removes Red's collision, then gives it back once the movement ends. Using Turn at the right moment, or using OVC glitch to give yourself control back, interrupts the 'give back collision' part of forced movement.

Real interesting find. I gotta see about finding a way to set an Obsolete tag on the old low% runs, cause I'm not sure I want to delete all the old route ones?

For the time being, I'm gonna arbitrarily add an hour to every outdated run. Nothing personal :P

Nobody else has done a speedrun of this category, which is why it's not listed. We only list categories that have some modicum of competition to compare your run against.

A youtube video is enough, preferably from all perspectives but not required.

If you die after activating the teleporter to leave to the next stage, you arrive at the next stage with a 0:00 timer and no items/exp. This way you can enter the spaceship at 0:00 and get a super easy Providence kill.
