I have never seen anything like this in any other game. Just an absolutely ridiculous decision that will achieve nothing except turn away new runners. If I was considering running a game and saw it had this rule, I'd just not bother and look for something else.
Hi there. I don't know how much attention this will get considering there aren't a lot of runners for this game but I've been looking into how to make autosplitters recently and I decided to make one for this game.
It currently only works with the ePSXe emulator (only tested on v2.0.5, I can't guarantee other versions will work) and has an option for every category: https://github.com/Nytheris/WSPC/blob/master/WSPC.asl
It works perfectly with the rules for patrol mode categories but unfortunately it has some issues with the current Any% and 100% timing rules. I was only able to make it so that the timer starts when you press "end" after typing a name (Which I believe is what the rules used to be?). Also, the splits happen when you reach the debriefing screen after the missions, which would mean the final split happens later than the current timing rules say. I only made it for fun and as a challenge but it's here if you want to use it and when I have more time I could try to update it to work with the current timing rules.
To set it up, just add a scriptable autosplitter to your livesplit layout, go to layout settings, and set the file path to the .asl file. Then you can enable whichever category you want to run and optionally disable any of the invidivual splits you don't want.
I guess it's also possible there was a bugfix at some point. Thinking of getting back into running this so may do some more testing.
Don't have the game installed right now so can't test it myself but do you need a free scroll mouse wheel to do this or is it still really fast with a regular mouse wheel?
I spent about 12 hours one day trying to figure out the basement thing but I still have absolutely no clue.
Sorry I've been really inactive. I stopped running the game and it was pretty much dead for a while so I stopped checking it. Glad to see someone picking it up again and I might try running it again at some point.
Awesome, thanks for setting that up. I'm pretty active and have some spare time to moderate.
Just did another run and got 1:31:41. Still made a few small mistakes so I could probably take 30 seconds off that, but sub 1:30:00 probably isn't possible unless someone can find a better route.
Messed up my first run quite badly, then changed my route a little and did a second one: I realise now I could have saved time by doing the pinball/gramophone etc. while waiting to grab Thanos' invitation.
Nice. I created my own route for it but haven't made an attempt yet. Been trying to figure out a fast way of getting the invitations of all the deaths that are late in the day (clay, trinity, redd and thanos) with minimal waiting around, but have been unsuccessful so far. I think a better way of getting sixpence's invitation would be when you come back to the chapel near the end of the game. Instead of resetting the day when you wind the clock, maybe fast forward to 8, grab sixpence's invitation then reset the to get the invitation from the safe before going to the tower. That way you're not waiting around for him to die.
