Ninetail: Yes you may edit a timer into the existing twitch video before submission. We appreciate you accommodating the current ruleset in this fashion.

Dist's run is not on this board because he hasn't resubmitted it.

Now that the board for sotc 2018 has been up for forty-eight hours, I have removed all ps4 videos form this board and deleted the subcategories. I was as careful as I could be, but if I mistakenly rejected something that was done on the ps3 or ps2 please let me know so I can buy you some tomatoes to throw at me.

After taking a poll in the discord, the community has voted to revert to starting time at difficulty select. The rules for any% have been adjusted accordingly.

Since we're just getting started with the remake, the rules are probably going to be a little fluid for the next few weeks while we figure out things like where to start timing and whether or not to go by IGT.

I appreciate everyone's patience while we sort this stuff out.

A note on IGT vs. real-time: the ps4 streaming feature complicates the use of real-time as a timing convention, which was not an issue on previous versions of the game as the feature wasn't present. Feel free to weigh in here on which timing convention you think should be used and why.

Now that the new page is live, we will no longer be accepting submissions of ps4 runs and time attacks at this page. All ps4 submissions should be made to https://www.speedrun.com/sotc_2018.

On Tuesday, February 13th at 6:00pm CST, I will begin deleting the existing ps4 submissions from this page as well as removing the ps4 subcategories. We will be contacting those runners who have already submitted ps4 content about resubmitting those runs to the new leaderboard.

For individual time attack submissions, please include the timer as it is displayed after the colossus is dead.

Texas, USANeurotaku6 years ago

give us some time to get everything situated, and we'll start moving everything over.

Texas, USANeurotaku6 years ago

Third party timers are required because we don't use IGT to determine leaderboard position. that may change if the in-game timer for ps4 doesn't include the end credits. We'll see.

Texas, USANeurotaku6 years ago

For the time being, I can't see a good way to separate Ps4 any% easy and any% normal on the boards. When the new board is up, the two difficulties will of course be separate.

Texas, USANeurotaku6 years ago

Neoh I just noticed that in his any% submission, and he's totally right.

Texas, USANeurotaku6 years ago

Also apparently we won't be using subcategories for the IL board because I am (in chronological order) dumb and lazy.

The current consensus is that we'll be making a separate speedrun.com page for Shadow of the Colossus (2018). The creation of that page has already been requested. For the time being, I think it's best to go ahead and accept anything ps4 related so that people can show off what they've accomplished so far. Once the new page is live, we'll be deleting the subcategories and getting everything moved over there. Runners submitting before the new page is up may need to resubmit after. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

ps4 rules: I believe what we're looking at goes like this:

  1. For full game runs, timing starts when skipping the opening cinematic and ends when the end-credit cutscene triggers after Wander falls into the pool. Timing uses RTA conventions, and the runner must display a third party timer which may not be paused during the run. Emulators are banned. PS4 and PS4 pro are both acceptable, as are SSDs. The new boards will include columns to denote hardware, but we won't worry too much about it right now.

  2. For Time Attack runs, rules will remain as stated for ps3/ps2 or as close as possible.

  3. Individual Time Attack submissions should include the input that starts that particular attempt (retry or challenge or whatever it is) and final time will be what is displayed on the in-game timer after the colossus is dead.

Once the new page is live, the rules will be refined to more accurately reflect changes made to the ui and menus, but for now use your best judgement to handle discrepancies.

You may get notifications about me doing random stuff for a few days, which I apologize for. The ps4 version is going to need a seperate leaderboard, and I'm going to try and firgure out how to optimize the page layout.

We will NOT be changing anything as a result of the ps4 release until the game is actually released, and runners have had a chance to play it and compare it to previous versions.

To date, version differences between the ps2 and ps3 versions have not necessitated separating the two consoles. Differences in framerate and load times are small enough that the determining factors in what runners have better times are skill and work ethic. In fact, the third place record holder is actually Notohanto, running on the ps2 version. That run was pulled from the leaderboard by the runner for personal reasons, but it doesn't change the fact that the ps2 version remains perfectly competitive with the ps3 version for runners who put the work in. More importantly, while the community of runners remains small (as it has historically been), it's counterproductive to segregate runs by console. That's why the version a run is performed on is noted on the leaderboard in the first place. If and when the leaderboard becomes competitive enough that console differences begin making a difference in placement, we will discuss separating the runs by console.

We already added a new category about six weeks ago, and since then only one person has run it. During the polling process for creation of that category, Plush asked about other potential categories,, and there was very little interest in them. Probably we'll discuss other categories again in the coming weeks, but for now we will not be making changes.

Texas, USANeurotaku6 years ago

Unfortunately, that is correct. Runs performed on emulator are ineligible for leaderboard placement.

Texas, USANeurotaku6 years ago

I'd recommend PS3. Unless you wanna go for broke and run the ps4 version. Though we don't know anything about that one yet.
