TARS is only able to play on console and myself on PC, but whatever number people we get, I'll be up for it on PC.

Now...where to find 7 other burnout players to do 8 player times :D lol

Okay guys, I recently did an attempt at the 100% run using an emulator after getting the emulator to finally work on the snowy levels. This was my first time playing the game in 6 months so obviously I was pretty bad to begin with and my pace really picked up in the middle of the speedrun to beat the current WR time.

What concerns me though, is the massive difference in split times, between my times and Simpleton's. I haven't watched his run the entire way though, but I noticed that he had a much better start than me (which isn't surprising since mine was horrendous with my rustiness) yet I was still ahead on splits. So I did some digging and made a spreadsheet which includes ONLY the race completion times, so no loading/saving/menuing and it shows clearly that he was faster than me during these first splits, but although he manages to get upto a minute ahead in reality, on the split timings I never really fall behind. So obviously I'm really concerned about uploading the VOD as although I still win based on raw lap times, it wouldn't be fair competition.

During simpleton's run, does anyone think he is particularly slow during the menus to lose him a bunch of time per split? I know that he used a memory card, which accounts for some of the lost time thanks to @theottergods research but not enough to account for these split times.

Here is a link to the spreadsheets showing the difference of race times vs split times. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zHiNRplojrsZPcquyoXpyLiWGvGOpgs-L9np3ieQXgw/edit?usp=sharing

@simpleton216 I need to get into contact you to discuss something, how would I go about doing it without staying up late where you may or may not be streaming?

EnglandMissingYew7 years ago

@simpleton216 I tested the lag issues that you experienced to see how it went on my computer. You're right, the fps will drop from 60 down to 40 with no way of fixing the issue causing the game to slow-down so I don't think the 100% run is really possible on emulator due to this.

EnglandMissingYew7 years ago

It is completely up to you, people in general like it more if you run the game using a capture card but I decided to use an emulator for the same reason as you (I don't have a capture card), it helps that using an emulator makes life easier without having the console setup imo.

I personally haven't had any frame drop issues using the emulator that I can remember, I think there's 1-2 snow levels during the any% run too so it will probably affect you whichever run you choose to do.

I just checked for you and it seems that you must complete every race within every single event for 100%. http://i.imgur.com/okpC4lM.png

EnglandMissingYew7 years ago

For 100% I'm pretty sure it means completing all the events without skipping any.

Actually, I'm unsure if it means you have to complete every race from every series, do you know if getting gold on each race within an event contributes to the overall completion %? If it doesn't and only completing the series counts towards 100% then you can skip individual races within a series.

Nice good job, knew there had to be some way to do it.

It's not just the time in the junkyard either, when discovering events for the first time, the game can behave really strange and not allow you to start the event, so you have to drive around a little to find the perfect spot to trigger it to start, with the events unlocked, you would be able to start events much quicker and easier which would be very difficult to calculate time lost/gained throughout a 2.5 hour run.

Thinking about it, if you have all the cars/licences unlocked it might be actually impossible for you to follow the route with the basic car as doesn't the game scale it's difficulty based on your licence, so you would have to race the Cavalry vs Burnout Licence cars which just won't work? (Well maybe, the AI is pretty bad at racing).

But yeah, basically you pretty much have to start from a fresh save state.

If you use a different PSN account (It's free right?) it should realise "hey, this account doesn't have any DLC" so makes you start a new save. If it doesn't, you can always go into your save games folder and delete your burnout save. If you don't want to lose your save, copy it to a USB.

EnglandMissingYew7 years ago

@SOADassassin It does matter, whenever you upgrade your licence you have an unskippable cut-scene unlocking cars in the junkyard which takes up a bunch of time as it even includes 2 bike unlocks.

EnglandMissingYew7 years ago

Can you use a different user profile to create a new save game in order to start from the beginning of the game?

EnglandMissingYew7 years ago

The times will probably be added, but the others I'm not sure about since they're supposed to be a "speedrun" aka, do something fast, not get the highest score possible. I mean, it'd work if you said "Do all showtimes" but that'd result in you trying to get the lowest score possible on each road to do it as quickly as possible which is kinda weird.

EnglandMissingYew7 years ago

I agree with ottergod, there is no time to be gained after crossing the finish line since it's just spamming the A button to get through the menus.

EnglandMissingYew7 years ago

It's not really preference, the timing of when to start/stop the timer is important to define. Otherwise there is no reason to now stop the timer when you cross the finish line as it gives you a faster time.

You say that the timer starts when the championship is selected, does that mean that you skip over the 101 license and it isn't apart of the run?

Okay, I guess we can play sometime.

EnglandMissingYew8 years ago

Let me at least see how much I suck first and I'll get back to you :D

EnglandMissingYew8 years ago

Oh, I see what you mean, I just looked at other games that have emulators banned (Kingdom hearts) and the box is replaced with "emulators are banned" so I'm going to take that as it is allowed for Burnout since what isn't banned...must be allowed right? I think I'm going to have fun seeing how much I suck at this game :D
