We have officially switched to In Game Time (IGT) as the primary method of timing. This also means that, for most categories, we are able to allow runs recorded with NTR, and also runs done on Citra Emulator. Improved tricks and improved brake drifting are also now allowed for all categories on custom tracks unless otherwise specified.
Please make sure to read the rules carefully in each category before submitting, as these new rules do not apply to every category.
The switch to IGT also means that some WRs have changed hands, so congrats to: xStorm (Bell Cup 9999cc WR) Doops (Egg Cup 9999cc WR) RocketMK (Fireball Cup 9999cc WR)
Hey! I just wanted to let all of you guys know that the speedrun.com discord server and the time trial servers have officially merged. For any of you that were in the old discord server but weren't in the time trial server, you can join the new server at https://discord.gg/fSY9ff5pau
I put this survey in the discord server a week or two ago (Come join if you haven't already!), but I wanted to make sure everyone who runs this game has the opportunity to respond. So, here is a quick survey about questions regarding a potential tournament coming soon:
I think when my world 1 time was changed to RTA instead of having separate RTA and IGT, the RTA was changed to IGT instead of the other way around. So it is currently about 9 seconds faster than it should be. I also just wanted to ask whether it's possible to have RTA just be the primary category for world runs, so that IGT is still visible but not the primary category.
I also wanted to ask about adding an IL for the END level. There's no IGT for this level, but I did a perfect run of it in case you do add it. Not sure how timing would work though since my phone experiences a little bit of lag so even though the run is perfect it might be slightly slower RTA than other people.
Hello Everyone,
As many of you probably know, there was a discovery that playing without an SD card speeds up load times. However, they appear to have an RNG element to them. Because of this, verification was temporarily paused until a decision was made regarding whether or not runs that did not use SD cards would be allowed, due to RNG in load times just honestly being a little annoying, and having to check if there were any differences between 3ds versions. As far as is currently known, the latter is not the case. Because this was not known before a few months ago, there are several older runs with video proof that appear to have been done without SD card, and there are likely many more that do not have video proof (possibly Branlo's Leaf Cup?). Due to it being impossible to know how many times already on the leaderboards were achieved without an SD card, and there being no differences in regards to playing without SD card between various 3DS/2DS versions (as far as is currently known), PLAYING WITHOUT AN SD CARD WILL BE ALLOWED.
I understand that this may be annoying for some players due to an rng element being added to runs in addition to items, but it's something everyone is going to have to deal with, and in the short term there will be some free prs for players (including several WR times that are currently pending, but will soon be verified😉).
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask me about anything, I know this might be a little confusing if you haven't been aware of what has been going. Starting 11/20, times will start to be verified again
Happy Karting!
There is still gameplay after the final boss in at least years 1 and 2 (don't recall for 3 and 4), so I feel like it would make more sense for timing to end when the final cutscene plays
Isnt it just a meme how at the moment the slower time of the two on the shell cup karts only category is classed as first, while the faster time is classed as second?
I was looking into getting into this game, however runs not needing verification seems like a drawback
So, the current world record for star cup (which does not have a video), is 7:58. If the world record times are taken and have load times added to them, the time would be approximately 7:44. The reasoning for there not being a video is that it was driven in the car. So this time is only 14 seconds off the best approximation of the best time that we can get. This would be near impossible in the best of circumstances (due to not having triple shrooms to start), and since at the start of neo bowser city and maka wuhu, it is best to slow down to get these triple shrooms, near perfect lines would have to be driven, and that's excluding factors such as blue shells and shocks. Should this be looked into?
