I was wondering if anybody knew the exact enemy physical damage formula since i cant find it anywhere.... I imagined it must be something like atk x 2 x def/256 but it doesn't match what I see in the game for some bosses like Masamune... Any help will be loved ^^

In CN1 the block cycle is camera timed, so you do lose time with mistakes at the beginning

Well, no problem for the rejection of my idea. Maybe it could still give some insights for allowing certain rules to be "flexible", i.e. required only when some other rules are not in place, etc.

Just my 20 cents about one weird idea that I have.

Given the fact that different people like different things (some people don't want a frame counter, some other want to play on retro arch, etc.), and given that the purpose of each rule is to provide more evidence to the verifier (a run is not automatically legit just because it follows the rules, no matter what ruleset), I thought it might be an option to have a "select the rules you like" ruleset.

It might be interesting to set a specific "reliability score" to each rule (ex. Camera Controller 100 points, Input Viewer 25 points, non-open-source-emulator 10 points, frame counter 15 points, playing on real console 85 points, etc), and then require every runner to meet a specific number of "credibility points" in whatever way they like.

It may sound complicated but if engineered and tested correctly, this might have the following benefits:

  1. It allows runners to not stick to rules they don't like and/or agree with
  2. It "should" give the verifier enough material to be able to assess the legitimacy of the submission

I say this because I think that, ideally, rules should be guidelines, and not biblical commandments that automatically result in rejection if you don't follow them in their absolute entirety. The reviewing process should still be, at least partially, "the job of the reviewer".

Just to clarify the points Ben is making in simpler words:

  1. If someone shows gamepadviewer, which an external tool not embedded in any emulator, it would require some serious dev skills to cheat, therefore any emulator may be allowed
  2. Is someone is not, then the old rules may apply

Just to add my 2 cents, to be able to cheat with such setup (1) one would need to recompile a custom version of both gamepadviewer AND the emulator, which is definitely harder than just hack an allowed emulator to get around the "allowed emulator" rules, and is therefore a stronger security measure.

I shall add one additional information: The "vegan" strat as it's shown in the video works only with REV02 version of sonic 2, which is present only in the cartridge "sonic classics" (or "sonic compilation" in europe) which includes sonic 1 and 2.

In the previous versions of sonic 2 it doesn't seem to be possible to spindash straight from the falling blocks while not falling down.

As Chrezm kindly pointed me to his own youtube videos explaining the strats regarding Wing Fortress, I'll just post the links here for anyone looking for the same information.

The "Vegan" strat requires you to brake and generate a puff of smoke while getting the 3 rings right before the slope that you use to glitch to the boss room's ceiling.

Many thanks to chremz and to everyone that contributed to rev-eng this game and obtain these remarkable insights about how the game works and how to beat it as fast as possible :)

I was wondering if anyone can help me understand the fast strat for WF ^^

I know one way to have the boss "make you stand up" is killing the first chicken, but I see all fast strats somehow get away without killing it, and I fail to understand the alternative condition that guarantees that you will be able to kill the boss using slope glitch.

Thanks for any kind of help :)

Greetings everyone.

I was wondering if using an Everdrive-like solution on a real hardware is considered legitimate, or if it is mandatory to obtain the original Sonic 2 cartridge.

Just wondering as I can't find any info regarding this topic! Thanks!
