Hello, I’m currently the only Moderator for the SCP game series, and I’m only a regular Mod, not a Super Mod. Is there any chance I could be bumped up to Super Mod since there are no other Moderators? Thanks

@Aquixus I discussed this last night with Lixavon. Coke makes you move 15% faster (according to my tests), so it would definitely be worth grabbing. A 15% increase in move speed would save you ~9 seconds for every minute you're running which is pretty big in my opinion as long as you don't waste time trying to get it.

There's a couple problems though:

  1. You need a Major Scientist card or better to get one. In Megapatch 2, Maj Sci cards no longer spawn naturally, so depending on your strategy, you might not have that card when you run into one.

  2. The locations where it can spawn, as well as the amount of these lockers that spawn are pretty bad. 4-8 lockers will spawn, and there are 10( I've only found 8 ) possible locations: -VT00 in Light -End of the hallway in room #012 in Light -Top of the stairs in room PT00 in Light -Right outside of 049's Containment room in Heavy -In the "ammo room" in Heavy -In the Nuke Room in Heavy -Right outside the Micro H.I.D room in Heavy -Right outside 096's Containment room in Heavy The best spots for it to spawn are in the Greenery room in Light, the Micro H.I.D. room in Heavy, and in 096's chamber in Heavy. However they might not spawn in any of those 3 spots. I have noticed 2 Cokes spawning in one run, which means that it can spawn multiple times in these locations.

It's not all bad though; the Coke drains your health, however I found out that it will take exactly 2 minutes to kill you (provided you don't take fall damage). By the time you find it, you'll probably be escaping in under 2 minutes anyways, which means you don't need to take any healing along the way.

So yes, it sounds good at first, but there are MANY factors that hold it back from being a consistent strategy. I wouldn't say it's a stupid idea at all, because it's definitely not stupid. Instead of thinking about using the Coke as a core part of your runs, I would instead think of it as a rare opportunity to save time.

I'm gonna be so happy if they re-release the tutorials

The rules for Greedy Thief are actually incorrect to my understanding, watch either mine or ThatDamnTractor's record for Greedy Thief and you'll see that the only items we grab are all of the money bags and the Gold Bar. It could have been a miscommunication from the moderators, I'm not sure, but either way the rules for Greedy Thief basically just boil down to: Collect every money bag and escape with "Greedy Thief" showing on the end screen.

@MrGamerStudios1 We need a rule set people can agree on for Online Escape. It's a controversial category in my opinion because you could very easily have an advantage over another runner if you have friends in the server.

Sorry for the inactivity I don't think we need more moderators, I get emailed any time a run is submitted, but Seydie usually approves them before I see them anyways haha

As for @Dank_Dukz's suggestion- there is a configuration file where all these server settings are stored; Seed, Starting Team, Nuke Time, etc. My only concern is there is no way to prove if someone is using a set seed or a random seed, and for that reason I chose not to do anything with it.

I'll do some research into timing differences soon. I personally feel like the only major change (if any) will end up being how Light Containment Zone has changed. If they continue to make major updates to this game's routing, it might be a good idea to start separating runs by their versions, and making past versions "Misc Categories"; almost like competitive seasons.

Edit: Comparing my current Offline Escape% run PB (which I got before they did the major overhaul) to the current 1st place for Offline Escape% (which was obtained AFTER the major overhaul), I can already see that we both leave LCZ at very similar times (1st place leaves 5 seconds before me). I think this is proof enough that the time spent in LCZ isn't major.

How do you do the original release? I was trying to figure that out. There's a beta for the first release but it was broken and wouldn't start up for me

QuébecLagloyavich5 years ago

I tried looking into finding an older patch of the game online somewhere, but I couldn't find anything. A developer even stated that they will not release older patches of the game. So unfortunately if we separated the runs by version, there would be no way to play the older version, and the runs on the older version would be there permanently. At the end of the day, I'm fine with whatever the majority of runners would like to do though, and I do agree that there should be some sort of separation just in case the older version was faster or something.

I hate item clipping with a passion, guess it's time to grind for a 31 without clips lmao. Thank you for this post though! I actually have done some cheat engine experiments myself but I never thought to look into getting a faster time in Low%. I might do some grinding for a 31, but then again this game has honestly drained the life out of me which is why I'm leaving 1st place in all items to solidmax. Would love to see someone get the 31 though!

YunoG if you could help us think of a run for co-op that would definitely help

QuébecLagloyavich6 years ago

I think it would be best to wait for all the tutorials to be added before making an "All Tutorials" category, the devs have been putting a lot of work into the game recently so I'd guess we can expect to see more tutorials soon.

I do like the idea of a Death% run, but I'm not sure about 05% because it would only really be all about finding the keycard immediately and then 914 immediately afterwards.

And then as for coop runs, with the game's current state I don't think a coop run would be much different from a regular Escape% run.

I actually thought about Nuke% but I forgot about it! I really like the idea.

Online Escaping is something I'm not really a fan of. As Seydie said; people could disconnect, SCP's could potentially be friendly, etc. Not only that, but you could very easily have a friend on the server to help you escape which would be unfair to those who don't. I'm not against this being a category, I just think that it'll be extremely difficult to actually set up rules for this.

Offline Escaping is easily plausible though; on the main menu hit Play -> Create Game -> Okay and you'll be sent to the "Waiting for players" screen with the option to Force Start the game. There is no way to configure the local server's settings without opening the console, which means you'll be getting a random seed every game, and you'll spawn as D-Class every game. Timing could start on pressing "Force Start" and end as soon as you're teleported to Chaos spawn. I would just call this "Offline Escape%". Videos would have to show the runner creating the server to ensure that the seed is random.

Another idea is a single segment tutorial run. This would just be to complete every tutorial in order, start to finish in one sitting.

Exactly, there are specific times where it could end up being great, and that's exactly why I have very high hopes. And don't worry about overlooking some things! As you said, you don't run this game, so it's completely understandable.

I have been aware of the first trick of seeing the code from OOB, but I couldn't manage to use it quickly to get a good score so I didn't think it would be worth bringing up. However, with enough practice and good RNG I believe it could definitely lead to good scores.

As for the Goldbar clip, unfortunately it sounds better than it really is. Looking at the categories that require the Goldbar, we have All Items, Greedy Thief (Not sure about that one to be completely honest), and 100%. In All Items, there is a decent chance one of your items will spawn in the Office, which means you'd need to go into it regardless. In Greedy Thief and 100%, you need all of the money from the safe, AND you need the money stack from the Office. This means that All Items is the only category which could benefit from this trick. But let's say you manage to get a run where no items spawn in the Office, and you decide to go for the Goldbar clip; not only did you say that it's inconsistent to get it out first try, but you also mentioned it has the potential to pop into another room, or OOB, this makes the chances of successfully landing a run like this with speed very low. At the moment this trick seems too unlikely and too inconsistent to actually work unfortunately.

Regardless of all my negativity, I do have very high hopes for both of these tricks, and I think it's also great to see some activity in the community. Thank you for bringing this to light!

Edit: I will also look into the Goldbar clip trick and see if I can find a consistent setup and I'll keep everyone updated

With one of the newer updates of TF2, Valve accidentally broke bots and as a result has made achieving any notable records in the Scriptless Basic Training category impossible. Once you move onto the Dustbowl maps, bots will commit suicide in spawn forever until the command: "tf_bot_reevaluate_class_in_spawnroom 0" is typed into console. However, this command requires "sv_cheats 1" to be active in order to prevent the bots from committing suicide (You are unable to turn cheats on, put in the command, and then turn cheats off; they'll just continue to suicide after you turn cheats off)

I made a video demonstrating this which has the beginning of a typical Scriptless run in it to show that it happens with no modification to the run. Skip to 2:44 to go directly to the bug taking place, and skip to 4:00 to see me fixing the problem using the console commands:

I have no idea how this problem could be avoided as there's no fix except to have cheats enabled, which obviously wouldn't work.

As I said in the beginning, with this glitch it's impossible to achieve any sort of notable time as this is an extremely vital tactic for completing Dustbowl in the run.

Just wondering about the new meme category; is the intent to survive as long as possible? Or just to escape as soon as it hits 1 hour? With this in mind, should OOB be banned for this category? When the home owner comes back when the player is OOB, he can't reach the player which would ruin the category, I think it would make sense to ban OOB.

QuébecLagloyavich6 years ago

Yeah my run for Death% I just submitted had to be either 3 seconds or 4 seconds, but the run was technically 3s 65ms

QuébecLagloyavich6 years ago

I think what would work best is to have timing starts on your first movement input
