It's ok, thanks for the help everyone! I recently bought a webcam and now I can use Livesplit. My issues have been resolved.

Yeah, I know audio isn't necessary, but I would prefer it, and I've used a lower quality camera, I was just asking what the practicality was of using this cheaper means of recording.

Hello everybody! I have had some issues last year when trying to get into speedrunning this game. Since I don't have the money for a capture card, I tried using my phone to record, but that was a nightmare with storage and buggy audio trying to record the audio in-game. I then thought what if I bought a webcam that connects to my pc? I have lots of storage, I wouldn't have to set anything up, and the audio could be plugged directly into the computer. Thoughts? What webcam would work well for focusing?

But it would be a fun and punishing thing to do.

Why isn't this a category yet? It seem like a very engaging, punishing and rewarding sub category. Beating the game without taking damage would be cool to watch and go for...

I get what your saying, for no 2P, to do a minimum Cappy throws run, but we don't know what would happen if you did clip, which probably can't happen, and like MorGame said, if you fail the clip once, the runs basically dead. And at the end, man that would suck. Interesting idea though.

Yeah, it sucks that it doesn't, because if it did, we could cut out so many captures in Bowser's in Minimum Captures...

Yo, thanks IwerSonsch for putting that together, I'm excited to see what comes out!

Yeah, can somebody look into all songs? It sounds fun!

OK, I'm starting to get the hang of it. Thanks!

OK, but even with that, how do these advanced runners spin so fast? Like watch a video where Fearsome Fire just kinda plays around with the mechanics, you'll see what I'm talking about. I can't be the only person that questions this...

I still can't understand how people do these things. How does one person spin the control stick around twice on a single frame? Is it drawn out more? Any tips or explanations would be appreciated.

I was thinking, the lowest possible amount of captures is 13 with the wet nut glitch in Bowser's Kingdom. And most of the captures are in Bowser's Kingdom, including the Pylons. I just remembered that you can get from the painting in Bowser's to the island with the ogre, with a roll cancel vector. Now I know you can't skip to Bowser's at the beggining of the game, but what if you visit Bowser's when its available, then go to Cascade, go through the to Bowser painting, do the RCV, then skip 2 pylon captures and do the rest of the kingdom? This could mean the new minimum is 11 captures? Can somebody look into this?

Yeah, I figured. I was just asking because goryuya uses a phone attached to his display. I'm looking for a backlight timer on amazon or something. I was maybe thinking of buying a super cheap phone to use. I usually have the lights off in my room for best quality, so that's why I'd need the backlight

I'm wondering if the timer will show up on the video recording, I know there's a ton of timers for speedruns, but can any of them overlay itself onto the actual video? I only have the one phone

Android, my phone can't root, trust me, I've tried.

I have been experimenting with my phone recordings for running this game, and I found a solution so I won't have to buy a capture card. I have my phone on a mount pointed straight at my screen, and I have an OTG cable recording in-game audio. My last concern is my timer. I want a setup where I can export the file from my phone to my PC, then just upload it. In order to do that, I want a timer for the bottom of my display. It needs to have a back light so people can see, be kind-of small so it can easily clip on, and relatively cheap. I could use an old phone, but I can't find any. Any ideas?
