And, at the risk of necroposting (again), we're talking about a game with over 100 stages, some of which feel like padding. It's all about route optimization for the purposes of finding out the best route to the end goal; getting to Luna Base.

For starters, when people think of "Fortnite", they think of the Battle Royale, not the story mode. Because the Battle Royale has been free since inception.

Battle Royale games... well, they can last very long, as there are two distinct types of gamers in these modes; Fighters and Campers (well, there's probably more, but this is my stream of consciousness). Fighters are the people who immediately take up arms and start taking out one another, which often causes the total of entrants to drop very quickly in the first 3-5 minutes. Problem is, you have to deal with people who are Campers (like I am), that know they aren't gonna last in a fight as skill can trump weaponry luck. Instead, they figure out where the safe zone is in the map, head there... and wait. Honestly, I came in 3rd once largely because of this strategy.

Really, most games end when the safe zone is nothing more than the size of a small apartment building, and that can take 20-25 minutes. Not ideal for speedrunning, as there are so many variables that can go horribly wrong right from the gate, as well as the reality that multiplayer games don't lend themselves to beating quickly.

I'm going to give it a go with this game, and although JAsh15 has done an impeccable job laying out a speedrun, I'd like to give the player some more understanding as to how the game operates, as time will be spent utilizing mechanics such as friendship.

Yeah, I'm probably not going to focus too much on getting actual World Records in marquee games, or even things people will be spending months trying to either master or discover glitches. Like, I'm the 72nd best player in Sonic Mania's Titanic Monarch Zone's Act 2 (Sonic) because I'm a huge fan of that stage's gimmick, but I know that it's Green Hill Zone that people will be gunning for.

And I'm fine with that.

I should point out that the three games that I mentioned aren't exactly random games, but rather games that I have experience with from growing up and thus gaining an affinity to them. The Sims games, in particular, I'd like to explore a streamined process of beating the game quickly by recognizing which routes to meeting objectives are better for timing, as well as knowing what stats to have by the end of the game, which characters to befriend... or antagonize, and so forth.

I want to get records on those primarily for personal reasons as previously stated; I liked them growing up, and hope to get people to play them by figuring out how to take advantage of each game's quirks.

I've noticed that while there are obvious games people like to speedrun because they are exciting to watch and stream, there's tons of games on here where it seems like any person who bothered could be a world record holder. Honestly, I feel like trying my hand at getting world records for games that people don't bother... but you don't get prestige being the World Record holder for beating some obscure GBA title. Beating the games everyone knows and loves (and Battle for Bikini Bottom, apparently) is how you get your stripes.

So... I was wondering... I'd like to build up my confidence by tackling games on the website that don't have any records. Here's my list:

*B.O.B. on the Sega Genesis *The Sims: Bustin' Out *Urbz: Sims in the City

B.O.B. is the only action one. The others are simulation games that I believe I can provide some sort of input to help the gamer take advantage of the mechanics of Simulation games, even though they make boring streaming.

If I pull these off, is this a good way to get started... or are you just being lazy?

  1. Games that often require precise inputs, but lack the ability to be "cheated" through glitches or what-have-yous. Games that are notorious for shoddy controls, such as Silver Surfer on the NES, as well as Bart vs. the Space Mutants (also NES) would qualify.
  2. Luck-based games that require favorable RNG manipulation.
  3. Simulation games that throw in RPG-like mechanics that involve building stats before you can move on. Ironically, stuff like The Sims games on portable systems would make poor speedruns.
