You can submit a run thats been performed on an Emulator for sure. Just make sure you include which one exactly you are using! Not being able to play on the original hardware shouldn't lock you out from running a game.

Any%: Allows FS. Should generally allow everything.

Any% NMMS: Bans FS. Happy medium between a totally broken Any% and somewhat vanilla ASL.

ASL: Bans FS. Intended to be somewhat vanilla.

DC/AW/Culture/AIC: Allows FS. Fun categories should have their custom goal and objectives achieved asap. Could technically vary from category to category.

Ban pre run menu storage - yes.

As most of the people have said already, I don't think we need to fix a working system.

My thoughts: (as per usual - keep in mind that the following is coming from someone who has almost exclusively done NG Any% runs for the last three years)

Selfishly I would be against using any form of MMS in the Any% runs. However, I understand that Any% is supposed to allow essentially everything that speeds up the playing/running process. As far as I as a Speedrunner am concerned, logically Any% should stay Any% - whichever tricks and glitches that contains. Splitting categories could be a solution to this although I don’t think that’s the definitive right choice either. I agree that if we consider new runners stumbling upon Bastion, there should be a space where they can have quick, fast-paced runs without having to do MMS so splitting categories might be an awkward but appropriate fix. I suppose we don’t lose anything from splitting the categories up either so the longer I think about it, it sounds more and more appealing.

With that being said, if we were to decide that we allow MMS in Any% and NOT split up the categories, we definitely should bring the All Weapons and/or The Culture categories up on the leaderboard so people that are not as involved in Bastion as we are also have a chance to get to know those “gimmicky” routes. I think that those categories are underrepresented because they have not gotten the same exposure yet.

This is where I stand of now. If any of my opinions/views change due to conversations with the other members of the community for example, I will edit this post accordingly since I am always open for more input.

I'd love to go :) I would need for it to be on Thursday, though. And even then, I probably will have to miss out on the quiz, since I need to be back at the venue at around 17. But still, I'd love to join for bowling and dinner.

Sounds really awesome! Any chance you got that on stream/video? :o

Well then, welcome to speedrunning first of all! :) I know this sounds just really lazy from my side, but I'd prefer using the FCEUX 2.2.0 emulator. Not because it's the one I have set up and running on my end already, but because it's the recommended one from SpeedRunsLive. There is no reason we shouldn't trust their judgement, on what emulator is the 'best'. Also - I used the Nestopia before I got to the FCEUX, and I must say I enjoy playing on the FCEUX much more, it's a lot more optimized in my opinion.

If for some reason, you are not able to record with the FCEUX, make sure to let me know, we will then figure something out.

Hey guys, HaosEdge here. I was wondering if you guys think that it could make sense to establish a single NES emulator as 'valid'. Now of course emulators are never going to be 100% accurate compared to the original console, but the emulator times could at least be compared with themselves, if we are all using the same emulator, that is. The speedrunslive website states the FCEUX (ver. 2.2.0) as one emulator they allow people to use for runs, which leads me to believe, that the FCEUX has to be at least somewhat accurate. So that's the emulator I used. I think guyanil is using Nestopia (?) and I am pretty sure that BizHawk could be used as well. So again - does anyone think we should just set one of those emulators as a standard, so emulator times can be compared with each other? And if so, which one?

Cheers, HaosEdge

I 100% agree with you mate. I also think we should have at least (!) one active runner as a Mod, who actually cares about what's going on here. On that 64FPS note - for some reason people know that it's an issue, and even though Spatula was able to figure out why that happens and what causes it (so we could make a set of rules), nothing has changed. Starting to get really frustrating, man :/
