Thanks for the feedback. Rationale for my suggestion is that this could motivate creating new runs and strategies, but your arguments are valid. In absence of new runs there's not much reason to split categories. Glitchless runs would also involve only later missions and might just create confusion in the board if applied to IL category. But we can come back to discussing this if there's sufficient support or arguments for glitchless runs.

Thanks for the info. You should direct them here If someone shows interest in running this game.

There's not been much new activity with MS-DOS version for a while. I was thinking if it would be worth while to create a separate glitchless category, possibly for both full-game and IL runs? Old glitchless runs could be moved there as well if there's an interest in devoloping new runs. I'll be unlikely to participate in running myself though, but let me know if this sounds something worth considering.

Recording of FPS counter sounds like a good idea. Thanks 0zymandias for translation. Communication should preferrably be done in English so people can quickly understand what is said without having to do translation themselves. @Sardaukar пожалуйста, используйте перевод на английский в будущем

Apologies, I assumed you were talking about our chats. I haven't checked those Genesis rules since the initial draft or paid attention to new runs. Also, haven't checked how Fusion displays events, such as displaying key-inputs, saves etc. Basically, deskptop capture doesn't improve usefullness to verification as happycamper said. If window capture doesn't add sufficient benefit, it shouldn't be required either (same as DOS version). But most important is runners agreeing on rules. If so, there should be no exceptions and you are in right to decline runs ofc.

I'd prefer not to butt in too much into Genesis-category, but I wonder who said capturing the whole desktop would be necessary for verification? I had some private exchanges with Ozymandias when he took charge of the category (very much appreciated!). I recommended creating some rule descriptions as there practically was none. Besides mentioning allowed emulators I also suggested about having possible extra verification rules such as capturing the emulator window and having game audio enabled if that felt necessary.

I'm in agreement with happycamper for the desktop capture to be little bit "exaggerated" and rules should make sense (benefits verification). Probably not a good idea to go too extreme with rules and discourage possible legit runs from being posted, instead of discouraging cheating.

Hi, I think Amiga version should be run as A1200 HD installed version. This was one of my first Amiga runs, before there were much examples. Sometimes load times are excluded when comparing runs, but not worth in this case IMO. Doesn't bother me if you plan to grind this and have my run in the same category. Good luck :)

@0zymandias It's very common for new people on the site to not read rules before posting runs. Obviously they haven't read this thread either.

@rattus128 Added a mention about using official DOSBox in DOS-rules. Might help if people do read at least the default category rules ;)

That trick with the fist is cool. I'm sure this can go below 10 min. You probably lost around 15 seconds with the ball and the cauldron alone, not going for the faster strategy. Nice run nonetheless GG!

It should be worth noting that most games under "longplay" umbrella use savestates as the purpose of those videos is to complete the game and not competiton or breaking records. Maybe saves are not used during levels, but such videos should be considered with care.

Apologies! I didn't get notification about your post, seems like a site issue. Just happened to notice it by accident. Video looks ok at quick glance. Just post a full run if you're still interested and I'll take a look.

You should remove runs played with boosted emu speed from the board. Those were only added because of auto verification being enabled (for several years) and shouldn't have been added to the board in the first place. Rules were not very clear before so Svarschik can submit again when he's ready if he wants to play with recommended settings.

thread: Dune II

Maybe not, but that's beside the point. Console hardware was standardized to certain clock speeds etc., unlike PCs or Amigas. It wouldn't be fair to previous emu or (unlikely?) possible future console runners to start using boosted emu setups. Maybe someone wants to play with even faster emu setup later? So competitive runs should be done with coparable to og hardware emu setup.

As discussed previously, Genesis emulation should be similar to og hardware, lag and all. I believe current emulators should achieve this. Boards need to be kept open to people using actual consoles and it wouldn't be beneficial cluttering this page by separating genesis boards for console and emu runs.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!

I inherited mod responsibility for all versions of Dune 2, since original mods losed interest. I'm mostly qualified to address issues with the MS-DOS version and don't know much about Genesis games or emulation. I've been trying to get Genesis version runners to moderate that section of the board, but nobody seems to be sticking around.

This hasn't been much of an issue, since there haven't been many runs for long perioids of time. Recently there has been accusations about the validity of some runs and I'd rather not try to assert myself into a topic I know little about.

So I'm asking if there is anyone who would be willing to moderate the Genesis board and validate runs. Some previous moderation and Genesis emulation experience would be ideal.

Only PAL runs should be necessary. You can start with full runs if you like. We could add another category for MiSTer anyways.

Somebody has asked me the same question about using C64 mini. Using VICE would be preferrable to make 100% sure the run times are comparable. That said, if the game runs exactly the same it probably shouldn't be an issue. Would have to check the output carefully to compare. The run should probably be marked as emulated.
