About 225 gold was paid to total 6 runners. Congrats. Heh, this is a bit of a late update on this end, sorry about that.

Ultimately 225 g isn't that much and future src gw2 mod endorsed competitions will probably have double that amount in their prize money pool (if there is any). Super Adventure Box is now playable in-game but but no competitions or bounties are planned for it at the moment.

I'm really hyped about the return of Winter Wonderland and I want to host a friendly competition for speedrunning it! I'm sure many of you have seen speedrun videos of the loved and hated JP. If you haven't there's some submissions already up.

Let's get on to the competition details.

Competition Prize Pool: For each path the top 3 times will receive 35 gold, 25 gold, and 15 gold respectively.

Contest Rules:

  1. Make a video of a speedrun of one of the three Winter Wonderland paths and submit it to a speedrun.com/gw2 Winter Wonderland unrestricted category.
  2. Follow speedrun.com IL specific category rules on timing and run starting point.
  3. Only one prize per contestant.
  4. Fastest runs win.
  5. Prizes will be paid 3 days after the Wintersday festival has ended to allow for late submissions. Subject to change depending on moderator workload.
  6. As per common speedrun practices you can keep submitting new times to replace your old times.
  7. Moderators may retime submissions or reject them for not following rules et cetera.
  8. You can run all three paths.

What You Need:

  1. Video recording software (OBS Studio, Nvidia ShadowPlay, Radeon ReLive) and a video hosting platform (YouTube, Twitch). No vid, no did.
  2. Timer software (LiveSplit, WSplit) is useful but not required.

If you're unsure about anything please ask us. The community has a discord server and we'd be glad to have you join us us at: https://discord.gg/ChHsjMx

Happy speedrunning and have a merry Wintersday! ~ Dye Trader / Shard.4791

This post is a modified repost from reddit. To participate on a f2p account you need a lvl 10+ character to enter Divinity's Reach so you can enter the Winter Wonderland JP. Compared to previous years' speedruns the starting point for these runs is the respawn points in the starting platforms.

Thank you. Can we get a discord server going so we can discuss things without flooding the forums?

Try Dragster. It's easy enough but also quite deep for a short game if you really get into it.

I'm doubtful that proper verification was done at any point for the 5.51 record. Sure Todd Rogers says it was done in front of multiple parties but that's just his word. Verified by referee status in TG doesn't always mean that it's true either since some of their records were copied at some point from multiple sources after their own record database ("spiral notebook") was destroyed.

I don't know anymore. I feel like many people have disagreeing opinions on what they think the rules should be. At this point I'd allow pretty much anything for some category so that the scores could be comparable with for example rogue speedrunners that use the exec axe. I disagree on banning bunch of stuff.

Warrior is also strong with sword/warhorn (swiftness, leap) / greatsword weapons. There's class disparity of course with 9 professions but that just can't be helped in mmos. Some of them will be shafted. Necro anyone?

There's a short timing video in the style of Guitar Hero in Youtube. Search for: A2600 Dragster Timing Guide

The wheel represents gas and the red block clutch. Make those inputs and you're good to go. I didn't make the video. Just sharing what I've found.

I'll add moe on discord or something. I have some more thoughts on things below.

I see JP records as the main attraction here at this site. There's other sites for dungeon and fractal runs and even raid runs (gwscr.com, gw2dungeons.net) and I'm not sure if those people that have used those sites long would like to also migrate into here, and also records here would need to be compared to records from those sites.

Maybe there could/should be 2 categories for JP speedruns. One with mostly unrestricted rules and one with restricted rules?

The game mod has been active in other social media. Let's contact moe255 first so maybe he can come discuss this with us and maybe get him add some new mods if he doesn't frequent speedrun.com much atm.

I think there's 2 sides to that jaytee but I support your view. If that would change then gemstore toys such as Executioner's Axe can create an advantage for those that have them and idk if they should be allowed. Maybe? That's a 700 gem investment only to have a shot at top times plus the item is rarely available.

Myself I enjoy the accessibility point of skilless (LUL) runs but at the same time I think more runners use skills than not.

EDIT: Executioner's axe probably should be allowed IF other skills were too, just to get the absolutely fastest times. And it's probably not even useful in most JPs.

Yeah I think the rules or categories (buff & no buff) in that situation need tweaking/clarification.

OFFTOPIC: Since there's no response yet to this matter I'd also like to request some clarification on Winter Wonderland JPs timing and/or paths without creating a new thread. Sorry for the highjack.

There's 3 paths in WW. Some of them can be ran faster than others. I'd like to have categories for each and also about the timing it's hard to know exactly when you've landed on the platform (the first snowflake?). I've timed some of my runs from the edge of the starting platform but I think that's not optimal. Maybe better solution would be from the center of the starting platform, the spot you respawn to (?) if you run off the edge. I'm not even 80% sure if that would work that way but the timing start seems to be really tricky compared to literally all the other jp speedruns.

What is up. Inspired by the GDQ's and driven by nostalgia I'm starting to learn to speedrun some games from my childhood. Maybe I will finally beat them this time.

Some info about myself. I'm 26-year-old competitive/challenge seeking gamer. Usually my hobbies kind of die down so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for speedrunning. I've streamed in the past and I'm maybe starting again with speed games when the time is right.

The first game I'll try to tackle is Duck Tales and I'm happy there's still streamers actively playing this game. Having some virtual pseudo-company makes the whole process a lot more enjoyable.

Other games I'm interested at the moment are Batman (NES 1989) and a NES ninja game I don't even know the name of and some old PC RPG I don't know the name of, notice a trend here? Maybe I'll try couple runs of Gran Turismo too since the soundtrack is kickass.

I also think I might enjoy 1-3 minute speedruns. Some easy to learn hard to master type of stuff. Speaking of which I did submit a short run to Shower With Your Dad Simulator and am eager to see if it, or this post sparks some additional competition there. If you own that game please consider submitting a run. Ty. :)

Thanks for reading and I hope to bump into you guys in streams, discord channels, and other places. I'm kinda hyped even though I don't exactly know what I'm putting myself into or what the community is like, lol. o/
