Requesting Shin Samurai Jazz, only one mod, inactive for 1 year, I have 2 runs submitted on the board, one for 3 months. I also wish to create IL leaderboards.

Ok, for a start here is a run of the game that is still completed in sub 39 minutes on an actual N64 at an in person event.

Secondly, this game does completely stop sending audio signal between races. This combined with my Hauppage capture card used at the time caused audio issues. I also did not use OBS at this time, but instead Hauppage's own capturing system. Hauppage's program at the time had terrible audio capture, especially of microphones. That is why there is the bizarre sound that I can only explain as a drop in the first 10 seconds of the video, and why the pace of my voice in that video changes. This is due to the audio capture being "late" as compared to the video capture and Hauppage's program then speeding up the audio internally to catch up (you can also realllllly hear it again at the start of the video). With time, the audio drops with this capture card even progressed to if the game volume was simply low, so I threw out said capture card and started using OBS. If you want to know why I did stuff in such an odd capture system, reminder that I started speedrunning well before the days of speedrun.com. I worked on routing stuff for years before even attempting runs, streaming or any such thing. Back when I started, it just felt different and a poor setup such as what I was using didn't matter to me.

In question of the run itself, again, if I wanted to cheat a run, I wouldn't be attempting to pass off a 38:47. In fact, if you look back to the SDA threads where we discussed this game back in the day, you'll see that RNG manipulation may be possible to bring this game done another 5 MINUTES. If I wanted to splice this run and pass it off as legit, I would have done it with one of those super RNG manipulated runs. I never uploaded said runs to my youtube because I found this RNG manip to skip 3 races instead of 2 was only possible emulated and not actually on console. So... yea. There would have been no reason for me to even try and pass off a 38:47 when at the time my end goal was 33 something. THIRTY THREE minutes. After finding out that said manip wasn't possible on console, I gave up the game for a long time and got a new capture setup that wouldn't drop all audio if the levels weren't high enough.

So, in short, there is a feasible reason for the audio to drop out entirely. I even threw out my capture card because of said problem. Secondly, it would have been stupid of me to try to pass off a 38 minute time when my goal was much lower. Even with the current route, 38:47 is NOT a good time (note several races are over 10 seconds slower than optimal in the 38:47 run, don't think I'd try to cheat and leave such a sloppy run). Even if you don't believe such explanations, reminder that a 38:47 is clearly with my skill range, as I even ran the game in 38:59 at a live marathon after not even having touched the game in years as a last minute backup for a dropped run. It is not a spliced run, but I don't really care if you don't believe me. My best time in a live marathon is still over 12 minutes faster than second place. So, there's my explanation.

If you want to think this run is spliced, fine. I know it's not, and those audio issues come from a faulty capture card at the time. I surely wouldn't go through the trouble to make a bad spliced run (seriously, the 38:47 is not a good time) with that many mistakes. If you think it's out of my ability range, mind you that I have gotten a sub 39 run in a live, in person marathon on a real N64, and will even post that run instead if ya'll want, it was only 12 seconds slower than this run and was done as a last second fill in when I wasn't even grinding down the time. Said run was done at Buckeye Speed Bash 2017. I can go into this more when I'm not on my cell phone.

Saturday Morning RPG 100%, close to 3 hours. I do Any% All Episodes of that game much more often, which is about 1 hour 20 minutes.

It depends on the game/series whether stuff from previous levels can be brought in, which obviously changes with community guidelines set by the runners of any said game. Brief example: could you imagine what multiple F-Zero leaderboards on F-Zero Central would look like if the ONLY ships allowed were the 4-5 you get at the start of the game and nothing that is unlocked later?

Now, compare that to Serious Sam, which is a very different game than anything in the F-Zero series, and the IL rules are unique to that game. You can't bring extra items in, and apparently the community around Serious Sam agrees more along Beardy's thinking. Really, it depends on the crowd around any one certain game, and the rules about ILs will just vary quite a bit depending on what game you speak about.

I actually only use a timer, no splits or attempt counters at all. I used to not even use a timer, would time my runs after the fact. I only started using a timer due to streaming more regularly. For me, more numbers to look at gets my head out of the game.

I made a fairly long pastebin on turbo in speedrunning (something already acceptable in the JRTA community). However, I was wanting to just try to start a little discussion over what is mostly a hypothetical situation: if a runner uses turbo to complete speedruns due to having a disability. Please note that I wrote this from assuming that any runner is simply running games for their own personal enjoyment, not for WR attempts. This is also opposed to a runner cheating by using Turbo despite having no physical limitations. Anyway, here's the full pastebin: http://pastebin.com/GxcU6A7D You can make just as many valid arguments against what I say in this pastebin, in all honesty. However, even though I may not be exactly the greatest speedrunner ever, I will always enjoy speedrunning greatly despite my own hand problems. I hope that no one in this community will ever bully anyone due to using turbo or other setups to deal with a physical limitation, because it can be hard enough to keep a positive outlook with speedrunning when you do have such obstacles holding you back.

No, they stay there because you post in every thread. If the thread is left alone, it hides itself away. But, if you post in threads even when there is no need to or in dead topics, the marathon stays up. In short, DON'T post in dead threads please. Also thanks Gyoo for adding it.

Vitals Info: What: Buckeye Speed Bash 2016 When: June 11-12th, 2016 Where: The Holiday Inn OSU Campus: http://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/hotels/us/en/columbus/cmhol/hoteldetail/directions Who: Whoever wants to come! Hello! I am happy and proud to announce that a collection of us Ohio speedrunners have decided to make an Ohio speedrun meetup happen!

As of currently, this marathon has not been set up to raise money for any charities. Our main focus currently is growing the wonderful Ohio speedrunning scene (and inviting people from outside Ohio to attend if they wish). Also, it will be a great opportunity to meet other speedrunners from all over the state, as we have already had confirmations of attendees coming from every corner of the Buckeye state.

While there has been talk of Ohio meet ups in the past, it usually fell dead in the water secondary to where in the state it should be held: Columbus or Cleveland areas. However, we researched both areas and found that our potential locations to rent were much more reasonable in Columbus. As a result, the choice was made to host it in Columbus. We also chose the dates of June 11-12 to not interfere with RPGLB, NASA, SGDQ, Midwest Speedfest and graduation dates of some of our runners who will be attending.

If you wish to attend and/or run a game, please fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1vfTJFvyfWiW97wkyEfYYYalucq7Nv485Il9Z2PeDxzA/viewform Note that this event is primarily to have a good time. We want to include at least one run from every person who submits and is able to attend. Even if you don't have a run and wish to attend, fill out the form above anyways! Just leave the information about runs blank. Note that submissions are live, and will probably remain so for 6 weeks.

Please note there will be a small fee to attend, as the space we're renting out is not free. This is just so that the burden doesn't fall entirely on one person's shoulders. However, we believe it to be about $10 per person, which I feel is very reasonable. We'll add info on this when we see how many people actually attend.

Thank you for reading this! If you have any questions, feel free to contact myself (You can Skype me at CosmykTheDolfyn, email me at charliebrohard@yahoo.com, or send me a PM on SDAto CosmykTheDolfyn, or my twitch at CosmykTheDolfyn. I'll respond as quick as I can) or Genocidal (you can send him a PM on SDA). We hope to see you soon at Buckeye Speed Bash!

Hello, I am one of several people working on organizing an in person marathon June 11-12 called Buckeye Speed Bash in Columbus Ohio. I know runners are spread out over many places these days, and I already created a thread about it on SDA and posted about it in the speedrun sub-reddit. However, I wanted to know if it would be possible to create a thread for it on the forum here and list it under the "Marathons" section of the forums to try to spread the word. Thank you.

The Next Penelope is on Steam, but I will be bringing the physical version for PC from Indiego Box. Easier to set up, all I need to do is plug the USB into the computer that we're using and it's ready to go. I also use a Logitech F310 controller for the game which I will bring, hopefully the drivers for the controller install correctly. I can not bring my desktop, it doesn't actually have a proper case so it's not actually transportable. By proper case, I do mean all the components are kind of left in the open. I can get my Wii set up to have both Kirby's Avalanche and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine downloaded on VC, so that we only have to worry about one console for that bid war. Also bringing my own DDR pad and Gamecube with Gameboy player for Porsche Unleashed. Edit: On that note, I also play Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi on Wii VC for lag reduction. Will bring.

I am in Eastern Standard Time and am most available early mornings in my time zone (4 to 8 AM EST). My work schedule varies quite a bit and this would ensure that my run would be before I head out for work. I would most likely be available any day 7-10 PM EST also. I can also add a bid war for The Next Penelope, to play the game in either Italian, French or English.

Game Name: The Next Penelope System : PC Category: Mines First Gameplay Estimate: 00:27:00 Ending/Bonus Estimate: Credits take roughly 2 minutes Possible Donation Incentives Sorry, move along at this submission Sample run video: Description: Really broken little Indie racer on PC. Some levels are top down racing, while boss fights are SHUMP style. However, every shot I take at a boss also damages myself, meaning I can die simply by being a bad aim. Tricks to save time have been found in almost every level, several of these saving minutes. It's a great watch.

Game Name: Kirby's Avalanche System: SNES (Wii VC, see donation incentives are to reason why) Category: Hardest Difficulty Gameplay Estimate: 20 minutes Ending/Bonus Estimate: 2 minutes Possible Donation Incentives: I offer a bid war as to whether I play Kirby's Avalanche or Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. They are the same base game, just different music and sprites. I have both on Wii VC. Sample run video: Description: It's a puyo puyo game, where I match falling colored blobs in sets of 4 as fast as possible to defeat the computer.

Game Name: Hot Wheels Turbo Racing System: N64 Category: Any% Gameplay Estimate 42 minutes Ending/Bonus Estimate 1 minute Possible Donation Incentives: Not really Video: Description: It's a N64 racing game that involves skipping 12 minutes of races due to some RNG manipulation and the final standings of races. Also features reset warps, unlocking a hidden car for increased stats, and a LOT of stunts for increased turbos to go fast. A few years ago on the SDA forums, bangerra gave me the encouragement to keep working on routing this game out as it was my first speedrun and to not give up. I'm still speedrunning. Thanks bangerra!

The Next Penelope! Awesome racer with quite a few skips, and it's half off on Steam right now! Also throwing out there that more people should try Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi. Short, but hard due to 1 hit kills.

I'll take a stab at being helpful here. Some people may not agree with my answers, but here goes. 1: The more time you put into it, the better you get at it. Just like any other hobby. 2: Practice specific tricks in your game. I think a lot of finger pressing was just Trihex's way of keeping his head in the game. Myself and a lot of other runners would probably never do something like that. I even run a game that requires you to mash as fast as possible for combat for about 2.5 hours and I don't do things to warm my hands up. But, when you choose a speedgame, practice the tricks that make it go faster over and over before doing runs. Even when you are able to run the game, practice specific trouble sections. This obviously varies a bit game to game. 3: Testing reflexes? I don't know, try to speedrun WarioWare: MegaMicrogames! Reflex city, and speedrunning. Not all games require massive reflexes. Again, practice is more important. Don't spread yourself too thin over a bunch of games. 4: Just play around, basically. Get a good idea of specific mechanics, or try everything you got at certain barriers, etc. 5: Mods? That all depends on the category. Some categories would let you use mods or cheats in certain games if the other runners agree to it. The same should apply for DLC. Depends on the game itself. If you're wondering about Dawnguard/Dragonborn DLC, ask Skyrim runners directly and let them tell you if you can use that DLC in the run. 6: Do this for fun. Don't focus on going big. This year's AGDQ accepted only 14% of runs. If you only run with the mind set of getting into a GDQ, you'll never be satisfied. I didn't get into my first GDQ I submitted to, the first I attended or this upcoming AGDQ. But I have a lot of fun with speedrunning, so I'll keep speedrunning and not care about the rejections too much. Try to keep up with smaller marathons than GDQs also: they are more often, still a ton of fun and a great way to learn about a lot of other runners. AND PRACTICE. Don't spread yourself too thin over too many games if you don't have time to practice.

As far as I know, only runner of the following racing games. Hot Wheels Turbo Racing (any% and 100%, N64 version) Trackmania Wii (single segment runs of all platform and puzzle challenges) Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed (GBA port, all tracks SS. Have done on DDR pad before for laughs) I have been wanting to start doing ILs of Skydrift also, but hasn't happened yet. Good game. I was the first person to do runs of The Next Penelope: Race To Oddyseus, but Jorf has also picked up the game now. Non racing games: Saturday Morning RPG (both any% and All Side Quests) Some random meme RPG maker games.

Try to laugh it off. I used to instinctively slap myself in the face until I goofed up a Kirby's Dream Land run in a marathon once. Then I slapped myself. In the eye. And couldn't see straight for the rest of the run...

The most amazing voice you shall ever hear. To think he did this live while near death. In fact, he did die shortly after this performance due to the affects of aids. Yet, he just wore a high collar to hide the sarcomas developed on his neck and then sang his heart about: while singing of dying alone. Poignantly beautiful. Klaus Nomi: The Cold Song

Word of mouth, in a way. I've always been very active with both DidYouKnowGaming and VGFacts and somebody posted a link to a Spyro: Enter The Dragonfly speedrun on those forums sometime around early 2013.

Then I thought: I want to do this with my favorite childhood games. Here I am.
