We could probably do a simple test on it, say with lich. The end-of-level screen does show us how much exp we do gain.

I will say for the PS2 version you are also able to gain about 2 levels no matter what whenever you kill the spider queen using the thunder hammer. This is just what I've seen from experience of course. Could be interesting though if we were doing skips that required us to have a higher health or to fight bosses that we may not have the money to stock up for.

When they were put in, they were designated moreso as challenge runs. They also do have achievements tied to most of them, so it felt worthwhile to add them in case others wished to try the harder categories.

I was curious if we could add this as a category since there is a glitch that can really only be done on new game+ (Aka having already beaten the game on a character).

It was mentioned before by myself but it involves playing one level as sumner then swapping to the wizard after it. It causes the wizard to have (Even if brand new) all runestones and boss portraits unlocked which allows you to save a ton of time overall.

If someone could get back to me on this, either making it into a new category or added it onto Any% it would be much appreciated.

I personally feel like you should be able to do this, since we do use the campaign run for each individual category.

Though I do feel like we should then set guidelines when a split should occur, or when time should start for each category, if we are going to do this. That way we can keep the timing consistent because, let's face it, the times will come down to the second or half second for some of these.

That is just my 2 cents on the matter

Seems like it has to be done in ladder mode, would it be possible to add that to the rules so that there is no confusion on the matter. I do assume that you can just look at previous runs but it would be easier overall.

About to submit a run for assault, kinda curious though. Do I need to use the ladder for a run or can I use a practice mod playlist (like for assault it would add one more map which is the training map). I honestly find that practice mod is easier because it doesn't require me to have a fresh run going in order to both practice times and to do runs (For the game type specific categories)

Sorry for all the posts here but these are my suggestions for the Any% rules:

  • No cheat names (Cosmetic changes are fine)
  • No completing the run with a secret character (This means you can play a secret character, but you cannot kill Garm with them)
  • Character must be new (Using a file that has already beaten the game is fine. You must, however, pick a new character. New characters are defined by a character without a set level)
  • Difficulty must be set to "Normal" or "Hard".
  • Time starts when you hit "Done" on the character select menu.
  • Time ends when the cutscene after killing Garm starts

These are just suggestions as to what I think the rules should be. Any input would be nice on these.

To note, I think an Any% with Cheat names should be a totally separate run then regular Any% due to what they change in the game. (Aka making you invulnerable among other things)

My suggestion for the rules for the 100% category are:

-Must start New File (To confirm that each coin level was completed) -No Secret Characters -No Cheat Names (Cosmetic ones are fine)

Must Collect:

  • Collect All Runestones
  • Collect All Boss Shards
  • Collect All Items on the Inventory Screen
  • Collect All Secret Characters (Secret Coin Levels)

Time starts when you hit "Done" on the character select screen Time ends when the cutscene after killing Garm starts

These rules are slightly different with the one additional goal. It would add a bit more difficulty to the run because of the routing for the coin levels, it also is the true 100% since you would have collected everything possible by the end of the game. Any additional thoughts would be appreciated

Out of curiosity, boyo003 or any other person who runs currently on Xbox or GCN, I am curious if the glitch that allows me to shave off a ton of time works on those systems. Basically it uses Sumner to give the wizard all runestones and shards right at the start. you have no gems or golden items though so you can't just go straight to garm off of it, but it does save a lot of time since you don't have to go for the runestones and you don't have to go and fight the bosses.

Just a tiny post. I think the ruling on 100% should be changed to include getting the secret characters. It adds a bit more difficulty to the run since most of the run for 100% looks like the average casual playthrough to me. Thoughts on this would be appreciated

Fair enough. I know that I plan on submitting some runs of my own when I get my recording hardware up and running, so we would have more runners.

As for the idea of having GCN and Xbox be together, I'd agree with that. Looking at the game the PS2 release was before the other two and I have noticed, after watching your run, that there are differences in how some of the levels are designed which could change how the runs are. We shall see what comes out of this though.

From what I know, the games are quite different on different consoles. Specifically between PS2 and GCN since in GCN you can store items for later use at any time where as in the PS2 version you can't. I am unsure if the Xbox version has the same item system as the GCN version, but if it does I do think they should be categorized as different runs. Let's face it, saving an item like the thunder hammer for a boss is a really big deal, or a super shot with the archer. It can make the difference between a quick kill and a long fight. The items are also different, with the two latter versions having more items in them when compared to the PS2 version. This is just my opinion. If anyone else who does run it wants to put in some input, or maybe the mods, it would be much appreciated.

I know this is old, but I am curious if the rule for secret characters could be bent a bit. There is a glitch that you can do with Sumner and the wizard that shaves a decent amount of time from the run. Honestly how I would put the rules is that you can't beat the game with the secret characters, but you can play them for like 1 map. The cheat names also make sense since they are basically like using console commands for other games (Like noclip in half-life 2 or portal for example). Either way, if someone could get back to me on the whole using but not beating a game with a secret character that would be much appreciated.
