Hi all,

Given the rule about the use of ATIpatch and no other mods for running TR1, I've been wondering whether the following are permitted for PC runs:

  • the original TOMB.EXE using, I think, software rendering in DOS;
  • the alternative versions of TOMB.EXE that were bundled with Unfinished Business and add hardware rendering. (I think these are 3dfx, Voodoo, ATi RAGE, etc.)

If I read the rules correctly, the first is probably allowed but the second, while an official variant of the game binary, is possibly not (as it changes the video rendering). Asking mainly because I'm kinda interested in playing around with the game, but all of my setups with it involve either dosbox-x or a Win98 computer with a Voodoo3 and so they have the 3dfx version installed!

If nothing else, I'm hoping to get a sensible Windows PC setup at some point and then I might be able to use the ATIpatch version :)

I'm an iOS player of 2011 who's never played the Steam release, and who also has Origins, but I intend to keep playing 2011 on iOS for the foreseeable future. Decomps of the iOS and Android versions might continue to be a somewhat viable way to play 2011 on PC.

I'd be interested myself in knowing what the differences are between Origins Classic mode and 4:3 2011. Certainly there is an engine revision difference (RSDKv3 vs RDSKv5U I think?) and Origins Anniversary mode adds mechanics such as dropdash and infinite lives that make it presumably impossible to share a leaderboard, but I'm unsure.

I agree that this move by SEGA absolutely stinks, though. (Rockstar did a similar thing with the GTA 3D trilogy and were, I think, pressured into reversing it because of how badly handled the trilogy remaster was?) I'm annoyed I never got to get Sonic CD on X360 before they yanked it off store.

That's definitely a problem people need to be aware of in scd, but this sounds more like the op is saying that people have inserted their centiseconds time into the milliseconds slot and forgot to multiply it by 10, and mods haven't picked up on that?

Having tried livesplit one, I'm not sure how I time IGT with it? I don't see any way to input times for the splits, and the game I'm speedrunning, being iPad, doesn't have autosplitting.

I can definitely use it for RTA though, and just manually go through and retime for submissions.

Unfortunately, for the foreseeable future I'll be using a M1 MacBook Pro as my main streaming setup. This makes using livesplit problematic, since I can't use Windows.

What is the best alternative to livesplit that'll work on macOS running on ARM64 processors, and supports timing IGT runs? (Presumably livesplit one, but I figured I'd ask in case there's something else).

I don't mind trying to contribute patches for getting a split program working on my setup if needed, but I can't guarantee I'd be of any use :D

I’m picking up various iPad games atm, and I’m wondering if anyone has any pointers on improving my streaming and recording setups.

Right now I use separate paths: stock screen recorder for recording ILs, and Reflector4 to a Mac running Streamlabs OBS for streaming. Ideally when I start doing any% runs I’d like to stream attempts then submit a simultaneous recording, but vods aren’t guaranteed to be of submittable quality and Reflector sometimes drops the connection mid-game (both may be improved when I change ISP and router later this month).

Is there a better pipeline for streaming? I can have iPad and MacBook Pro connected by USBC, Bluetooth, wired or wifi. Eventually I’ll have a PC to stream with, but not right now.

Is it feasible to screen record locally and airplay/slobs at the same time, or should I be recording from slobs? Or is slobs inadequate here? Also unsure how likely this would be to fill my local and cloud storage if done on iPad.

Thanks!

Hi, I’m Ashikun (or, irl, Matt)!

I’ve enjoyed watching speedruns (EDIT: my first, I think, being AdamAK’s GTA3 runs) for the past 6+ years, but after seeing Argick’s Sonic Mania run in AGDQ (and also Nost’s Spyro runs in UKSG/ESA) and hearing about how runners like Arg approached and got into running I’ve decided to give it a stab. I’m 29, and only just got into Sonic games, so who knows if it’ll take ahah.

I’m not good enough yet to ‘properly’ run any game, and I’m not sure what my first one will be, but I’ve started picking up ILs on Sonic 1’13 and CD’11 and have a few initial CD shots in my queue. My goals are to:

  • finish and upload a glitchless/NMG run, any run, probably Sonic 1’13 (top 10s would be nice, but a long way away!);
  • increase the amount of US soundtrack on the Sonic CD leaderboards;
  • attend a GDQ, definitely as an audience member, but maybe something more substantial;
  • maybe try pick up some other games to see if they fit better (Spyro1 and Snowboard Kids are possibilities!);
  • conquer my salt and terrible attention span. These are gonna be my biggest challenges.
