You need to hit a vertical lava wall. The maneuvering afterwards is tricky.

I 100% share the opinion that going for that strat now would be foolish, but at least now you know why runners go where they do.

@Yoshikiller109 A secret star is a star that does not appear in the level selection menu in a galaxy unless you already beat the level. After you beat all the three main levels in "big" galaxies, a dialogue box will appear with a star over one of the levels. That indicates a secret star is present in the level. Luigi stars are also secret stars. There are 15 (one per galaxy containing 6 or 7 stars) + 3 Luigi stars.

Might try and run some secret stars runs on stream this evening, let's see if I can get this rolling. Tbh it has that "easy controllable" factor, peculiar routing and spans the game, so I see this as a promising candidate à la Green Stars for SMG2.

EDIT: Got a small PB in this today, 46:03.

I still find secret stars a better idea tbh. Less time, more sense, strats not seen apart from 120, observatory routing and movement almost completely different from other categories. Luigi rescue is any 21 stars, it might be good for practice though.

I fear that would be a short any%, using same strats etc.

I just tried a sample, no reset run of all the secret stars just to have a ballpark for the time.

It ended at 46 minutes for me but i don't deal with Dusty Dune usually, so without completely screwing up that (5 minutes lol) i believe it can easily go under 40 minutes with some optimization.

@Keondibs completed file, a new file wouldn't make any sense since you need to reach garden which is 45+ stars and be 2 hours long, hence missing the whole point (shorter category, playable easily in 1 hour or less)

All secret stars maybe? Would include all secret and all Luigi stars, which are IIRC 18. Makes more sense than a flat 20 stars, still short enough (40 minutes? probably less)

I plan on all the titles i had on the Wii that are runnable, one by one. Then after that we'll see. I'd like to focus on Super Mario Galaxy as the first one, i'll probably try a no fancy strat fast playthrough for any% to de-rust myself, the time will not be pretty but hey, i have to start somewhere right? Then i'll get more time to run after the 25th of the month, and maybe at that point i'll start streaming something if i can get at least half-decent.

Hi, i'm a new guy here. I've done a good amount of speedrunning on Mario Kart in the past (my times are on the Players' Page) up until 3/4 years ago, when i got my head into strategic games. I got back to games recently and i stumbled upon speedrunning content, that kind of reignited the flame inside me, but i wanted to focus on something else other than MK so...here i am i guess, Will be doing some Mario runs soon, i hope i can get decent times. I'll be setting up some streams in the near future (atm i have a call to arms from my college i must obey) just to have somebody to talk to while i play, and maybe to have some races, who knows.
