First I know this quick kill from "pingjizhuanjia" several years ago, but I can not make it by myself. Now this is a video played by kokorowolf can show this quick kill , a both kill though. Besides the quick kill, I think that keep the vacuum blade to the boss room can save a bit time then down fire.

Yes, like Riche said, asking someone to prove himself through something like a webcam is a good and friendly way for emu player. If we use this way, the problem is the standard of the proving. we all know the WR always determined by the second. Something like the mashcanceling or some crazy skill, there is a difference between 'can do it' and 'do it in a brilliant run', least of all in a WR run. just like we have 'sum of best' in ourselves splits but hard to reach it. To make the proving rules it's a big worry. But, I like this idea. It's good for the emu runners.:)

I've been watching some beco's stream recently. He tried to use quick sword in final boss fight, I didn't use it in speedrun before because it risky and just save a little bit time.

But, once he or someone use it in speedrun successfully and beat the WR, other runners who wants to beat the WR must use quick sword too. At that time, if someone use emu and U+B, and we can not find it out.

Perhaps, in NG1 if some one use emu and D+B beat Arcus's WR.

If the runner wants to hide that, we can do nothing. So, I think the separation is not the best solution but it worked.

Something long, but I think it's important.

I'd like to run on Emu, portable, convenient, it's mean that speedrun at everywhere, just need a PC and a controller. I love this feeling. Console runs is troublesome for me.

BUT! I said the Emu/console separation is a great improvement for the NG3 speedrun. Why? Maybe you will feel that I'm a strange person, so let me explain it.

For keyboard, 3 fingers control U/L/R (D is useless when wall climb) is different from use thumb control cross button, it is just a little difference as I think, not an advantage.

My opinion of keyboard

  • keyboard is just a input device, it same as wii controller/arcade joystick or something else.

my opinion of emu/console/gotvg

  • both of Fceux and console is good, ban gotvg

HOWEVER! That's based on an important premise that:

THE RUNNER DOESN'T WANT TO CHEAT.

Please consider the following situation:

  1. As I said keyboard is different from controller, if someone wants to turn the difference into an advantage, he can use L+R such as gotvg, I think it's cheat rather than keyboard advantage.

  2. We known that in NG1 have a skill that sword cancel, and there is quick sword in NG3. For NG1, set D+B in one button on the keyboard, as far as I know xiu invented it on gotvg, that's a huge advantage in some quick kill. Also in NG3, set U+A in one button on the keyboard, made sword cancel more easier. That's a way of cheating that we will NEVER be found in a video if the runner wants to hide it.

Something what I hate is cheat that we can't find out in the video and can't keep through rules, NOT Emu. I like running on emu as I said at the beginning.

Some people and something happened when I run NG3 already reduce my enthusiasm of speedrun, I really don't want it happen in there again.

So my vote is

  • Ban gotvg
  • If we can't control the cheat through the rules, just separates the categories
  • Implement above two in both NG nes series.

PS: Set multiple keys in one button through the Emu or some software, that's a harm for not only NG series, but also some games we haven't discovered yet.

@garadas21 I can fully understand what your feeling, because I am same as you. I speedrun on emu with controller and make it same as console as much as possible. Running on console is troublesome for people like us.

To tell the truth, I really don't want to see the separation happen, I'd like to see that we really want to separate is the keyboard and something like gotvg advantage, NOT the EMU/CONSOLE, I promise that I can do the same things which in my 1244 run on console, maybe the separation is not unfriendly for us.

I couldn't like the current situation, maybe not the best solution. If there have better way or some rules can solve that, I'm glad looking forward to it happen.

Finally the new rules comes, that's a great improvement for the NG3 speedrun runs. And I still have something to say, it may be ignored. Keyboard can simplify fast wall climb operation on both ninja gaiden nes series. After the xiu's run on gotvg was verified Chinese player think gotvg is acceptable so they run Ng nes series on gotvg and submit their runs. About gotvg advantage, it exists in NG1 and NG2 speedruns too. For example in gotvg Left+Right wall climb also works on NG1. And the Keyboard also have advantages with fast wall climb. So I have a suggestion that :

  • gotvg should be banned in both Ng 1-3 speedruns
  • to avoid keyboard advantage, separated console/emulator categories in NG1 and NG2 too (I don't know whether I should say these things here, the Ng3 forum, but it has relation with our discussion)

.....and some roast to myself in the end, I feel troublesome when speedrun on a console so I send it out ,the new rule means that I have to buy a console back ,shit.....

I have something to say about this game. My opinion and something about riche's question.

At first I post my opinion: keyboard should be allowed in the runs, but "gotvg"(the emulator xiu used) should be banned.

Long explanation. Gotvg is an online emulator which many chinses player used, it develops based "virtuanes", not "Fceux". The reason why I think Gotvg should be banned is you can input left and right at the same time when do fast wall climb, for example you can just hold left and jump bottom and then push right bottom rhythmic when you do wall climb on left wall. Through some training that is a huge advantage in fast wall climb. Fceux also has "allowed left and right at the same time" in input setting(i think it should be banned neither, I don't use it), but it can only used on left wall in fceux. Gotvg can use it on both left and right walls, and gotvg takes it as a default setting can not close, so it is hard to verify it in the video. I don't know whether xiu use it in his run, it's hard to say.(Gotvg also have turbo bottom as default setting that we can not verify in video)

And then something about Riche's question. In xiu' shadow of the ninja video. the message "wu dian ying" is same as"no movie". he used simple chinese version Fceux, so the message is shown by Chinese phonetic alphabet.

"wu2 dian4 ying3" = "no movie" "chong2 she4" = "reset" "dian4 yuan2" = "power"

instead of xiu's run , I doubt shadow of the ninja new WR more then his. In wansheng's video can not see message"reset" "power" "no movie", his input display looks like white and it looks like he do not use NTSC video model.(it's hard to recognize the input display color when used "ntsc" filter in video setting)

At last , about the first boss quick kill and all boss quick kill, controller can do same thing as keyboard with quick ninpo, but controller is hard to use quick sword than keyboard.(i don't mean that use quick sword with keyboard is easy, it's just a little easier than use controller), my opinion is that is an advantage which given by the input equipment, it should be allowed. there are.some people also run with wii controller or arcade controller, keyboard is a kind of controller too.

In summary, I think keyboard should be allowed ,but the "gotvg" should be banned.

Thank you for reading, and apologize for long post with my bad English.
