This thread had a couple suggestions (including the aforementioned nohboard)

You request a category for a game by doing a run of the category and then contacting the community for the game about their procedure for getting it added to the LBs. Some games might have stricter restrictions such as requiring multiple runs from different people before adding it.

This is so incredibly broad, you’re best off looking for a tutorial online, because there are numerous ways to do this and an online tutorial is probably better than the TLDR you’d get on these forums.

Why? Why change a theme that frequently? If a game ever wanted to do that the mods could already do it. They can change the theme whenever they feel like it.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs4 years ago

That is decided on a per LB basis; check the rules for the LB/game and/or contact the mods if the Rules don't specify anything about emulator.

LiveSplitOne is a browser based version of LiveSplit, check that out.

I checked the SF4 ones and there isn’t any bug, you just need to enable the filters to see the runs. For one of your 3DS runs, you need to enable “Any” on the Fighter filter. It’s not a bug, if anything the LB probably doesn’t have the filters defaulting/setup correctly. While I didn’t check the other runs, I’m guessing they have the same issue.

There is no need to post the same thing in 3 or 4 different threads nor do you need to bump your thread in under an hour.

You can view all the categories for a game on the LB for the game. If there isn’t a category for something, then it hasn’t been recorded on the site. There might be runs on other sites, but you’ll need to Google around.

This forum is not the place for advertisement, so people won’t be posting their channels here. Most runners have all their social media linked to their profile, so if you want to view someone’s YouTube, check if they have it linked.

As an aside, if you knew this wasn’t speedrunning related, why did you post it in the “Speedrunning” forum?

The site cracked down on the games they add for a variety of reasons. The primary one is that there are too many games to count out there that can be made in Flash or other web technologies very easily. Someone could easily create dozens of these games in a short amount of time. So, the site began to enforce stricter content rules to avoid have hundreds of games that are all very similar or trivial on the site to reduce resource use and other things along those lines.

Length is not the only deciding factor in whether or not a game gets accepted on the site. While it is a big factor, you could create a game with an hour of gameplay and still not have it get accepted if the gameplay itself is overly simplistic. Don’t design a game with the sole purpose of getting accepted onto the site - design what you want to (and what you think will be enjoyable to play) and then go from there.

That’s not even really a TAS. A TAS is not hacking the game to change its behavior, it’s just using a computer and other tools to achieve results and inputs that a normal human could not achieve; they are still playing the game in its unmodified form, they’re just abusing tons of things inside the game itself by pushing it to its limits of reacting to inputs/actions.

I have no idea what the OP is talking about, idk how hacking a game is a speedrun in an way, shape or form (in most cases that would probably be considered cheating since it sounds like you’d be changing the actual code of the game unless I misunderstood the OP).

That’s not really how this works. Mods don’t just add random people as additional moderators for a game, they tend to add trustworthy members of the community who have experience in the game in question. You’re not going to find someone who will give mod permissions to a random person who asks for it.

I have never heard of that, but if there is a game/community out there rejecting runs for the language the runner speaks, that should be reported to site staff right away.

All ROBLOX game requests (assuming that's what this is) are handled by the community, reach out to them: https://www.speedrun.com/roblox/forum

I wouldn't assume anything. Technically if the rules don't specify specific emulators or versions you could use whatever you want, but I would still encourage you to check with the mod(s) of the game just to make sure you're not doing anything against the rules (and maybe they'll clarify it for the future).

Also, as a general rule of thumb, unless the game you're doing has a two player/co-op category, doing a run with a friend or another person is not allowed; all speedruns are assumed to be single player unless explicitly allowing for cooperative runs.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs4 years ago

I agree with showing the reset too. It's not usually required (but some games do require it like SMB1 I believe) so check the rules on that.

I should have specified for clarity's sake that when I say "don't include multiple attempts" I mean like multiple, full (or decent/long) attempts. Showing the last few seconds of a previous one before a reset is often fine (and sometimes required).

AntarcticaTimmiluvs4 years ago
As long as you include a timestamp to the start of the run, it should be ok.

Although personally, I'd rather just download the stream, trim the video down to the run and reupload it. Although, I wouldn't do this for very long speedruns.
If the OP is using Twitch, both of these are not good suggestions. If you stream on Twitch, you should NEVER submit a run with a direct link to the broadcast as Twitch deletes those after 14 days.

You should also never submit a run video that contains multiple attempts just to make the mods lives easier. If you’re on Twitch, juts highlight the run using Twitch’s built in highlight support; don't waste your time reinventing the wheel by downloading a run, highlighting it and re-uploading it, that’s just a waste of time.

The TLDR is that when using Twitch, always use highlights and make sure to always local record in case Twitch has any issues so you don’t lose your run and you have a backup to upload to YouTube if necessary.

I’m a little confused to what exactly you’re asking. Are you asking how to submit a new game to the site? Are you asking how to stream?

You can request games be added to the site, as long as your account and that run you submit, follow all rules: https://www.speedrun.com/requestgame

If you’re asking how to stream, I would recommend googling that and looking at many tutorials for the site you want to stream to (Twitch, YouTube, etc). This site is not a broadcasting platform, nor a video streaming platform. All this site does is embed videos from many sites, so you will need a recorded video of your run (it doesn’t have to be live-streamed).
