hey so im thinking of starting to run this game but can someone tell me what is a blue balls?
I've been sifting through all the forums and things trying to find the rules for submitting a run for ALTTP, and I can't find where they are listed. My biggest concern was the use of emulators, and while I did see a post about people using emulators like BSNES, I wanted to know if that was still allowed as I am about to start running the game in the Any% - NMG category, and if I get my time down to a reasonable one I might consider posting them. Which emulators, if any, do you suggest to be used for the most accurate times, and least amount of issues? Also sorry if this is a silly question. I just created my speedrun.com account a few days ago, and I'm still very new to this :).
The rules can be found by clicking the "View Rules" button in the top right of the leaderboard. From there you can review both the "Game Rules" and "Category Rules" for any of the leaderboards we have.
That said, out of the emulators that are allowed there is no noticeable difference in speed for any of them. Retroarch does tend to be the more powerful of the options and does a good job at minimizing input delay, but it can be hard to get set up. I personally use SNES9X (version 1.60) without any issues.
@siriuscord Okay thanks man! I also use Snes9X so there shouldn't be any issues if I were to submit using it? It will be a while before I can even consider posting a time unless I get VERY lucky considering I'm just now getting back into the ALTTP groove.
As long as you're above version 1.5 I think you're good, but definitely double check the rules to be sure you follow the other emulator requirements :)
Hi Everyone. New runner with a question. I'm looking to set up an autosplit for a normal run. Under the resource tab I've downloaded the one complete split but it's for a glitch run. the other 3 splits listed don't have the .asl file so nothing really happens. I've tried searching the net to find a downloadable auto split for link to the past but can't seem to find some. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks
I don't use autosplitting but the main discord is very active and full of users who can help point you in the right direction =)
Be sure to check the rules for each category. Some emulators require you to display specific settings to make the run valid.
Hi there! I am a somewhat new runner (I've done runs, but never recorded or submitted them). I recently switched from running on the Switch Online version to SNES9X on OpenEmu so that I could run in Japanese, and everything works fine, but OpenEmu can't display fps, and my current PB which I hope to beat is already in the top 20%. What should I do?
Welcome! That would be better answered by a main board mod. Most top runners are going to be on original hardware but not all. Im unfamiliar with OpenEmu but I'll ping ping @Chexhuman (he knows things) and def recommend joining the main alttp discord, if you haven't already.
Delta appears to be an iOS emulator using a snes9x backend. If it's using an up-to-date version of snes9x it should be okay, but I don't know how to determine that.
@NebulousDragon It sounds like you already know the answer here? Run on an emulator that allows you to meet the requirements for submitting runs. if the OpenEmu frontend can't do that, use the emulator directly or find a different front end that can
Would a run of the BS Zelda no Densetsu - Kamigami no Triforce running on BSNES-plus be considered valid for leaderboard?
BSNES has several forks and variants, and I'm not sure which versions are considered "okay." This is the only x64 version that I've found that will accurately run the Satellaview version of alttp.
