Super Smash Flash 2 Forum  /  New Version New leader board

There is a new version of ssf2 its v 1.2 can we get a new leader board for that?

No. It's not different enough to need a new leaderboard. It would be super arbitrary to add new boards every time there's a new version. It would add so much clutter. The boards are already cluttered as they are. Maybe when version 2.0 comes out we will.

I also think we'd need a new leaderboard. I don't know how true this is for the rest of the cast but Sora's moveset changed. The old runs make use of his fair, which is now completely different: it lifts you up into the air slightly / stops some of your momentum, and changes the pace of the runs because you have to resort to neutral air to not get slowed down as much. The hitbox of the fair also used to go all around Sora, when now it goes mainly in front of him. If you compare my latest run on Breaking Targets Level 1 (6.430 when it'll be approved) with the closest one in the leaderboard being also 6.430, the difference is pretty noticeable.

EDIT: Grammar and specificity about the new fair.

You can still use an older version of Beta for running a specific character if they were better before. We never banned that. Making new categories/boards just doesn't make any sense. People ask us to do this every time there's a new update. It would be such a mess if we did. This is an issue with any game that's continually updated. Someone's gonna be upset no matter what we choose to do. There's no pleasing everyone. For now, we're keeping the leaderboard as is.

the thing is certain characters play differently as sora plays differently so i think it should be changed or a new category for certain characters for certain versions

Fair enough. I do understand how it could be a pain to always have to update the leaderboard all the time.

yeah i get that but there arent many new versions constantly i dont think

please let us just get new leaderboards for certain characters at least

for things like total time can they be updated with updates (since otherwise that's a huge disadvantage to newer players for obvious reasons)

This version still has the same basic mechanics/physics of the other versions of Beta. It isn't a drastic change like 9b to Beta. All the game modes are the same. There's new user interfaces, new characters, and some balance changes. I still don't think the changes are enough to warrant new categories or a new leaderboard. Nothing is set in stone though. We could change this in the future.

The point about Sora, however, is pretty valid. His moveset is different. Maybe we could add a new character slot for 1.2 Sora, especially if he's found to be overall slower than the older version. I think he's better than before, and all the Sora records can probably be beaten using the current patch Sora, but I don't know for sure. More testing needs to be done.

no soras records cant be beaten at least on stage 3 the wr holder rn said he cant get sub 7 seconds so i think for certain characters could get a new chategory

for sora, hes act slower, in part because his fair now gives him some height. Also, since flash is dying out, its no longer going to be possible to obtain an earlier version of the game (to my knowledge), so any char with a faster time only possible on an earlier version will get locked out unless there is some way to get your hands on earlier versions

Sora isn't that different, to be honest it's mainly just the fair, but most uses of the fair can just be replaced with bair to get the same result. I did talk about this with the src discord community for SSF2, btw. They pretty much unanimously agreed with me that we shouldn't make new categories/boards.

Also, flash dying doesn't affect downloaded games, mainly just browser stuff. Downloaded versions of all the past patches are pretty easy to find. Just google the version name followed by zip or rar.

oh, I didn't know that, thanks
