Super Smash Bros. Forum  /  Leaderboard Creation Thread

Lets keep conversations about creating or changing the leaderboards here for now.

For a reference, the old leaderboard can be found here:

I tried putting some categories in, and I ran into a set-up that may actually work very well for us. I am going to leave it as it is for now, but it is something we can definitely change if it's something we don't like. Oh well, we're experimenting and theorizing for now.

For the time being, at least while we are making the core changes to the leaderboard and creating it, I will leave myself as the only one able to edit the leaderboard. The reason for this is because I think if two people try to edit the leaderboard at the same time, one person's edits may be lost. So just to be safe, I'll make myself the sole mod. Once we like how the leaderboards are set up, and we won't have to worry about deleting each other's stuff, I'll add mods.

this is awesome that we didn't need to change the url, kinda confused on how the layout will display times. Will it display each 1st time for each character, and have you tested it with numbers to make sure it's not long horizontally to the point it goes off the screen?

  pikashypikashy

I have not done any testing yet. I had time to play around a bit with it, but I have no idea what this layout will turn into.

My opinion may not be relevant, but I think it makes more sense for each individual character to be a level with the difficulty as the category. People are going to want to look for times of the characters not the difficulty.

Alright guys, I submitted 'test' runs to the leaderboards to get an idea of what it would look like. It seems the individual character table shows the top run for that difficulty/character category, while clicking a square/cell brings up all the runs for that category. The long categories are set up similar to the last leaderboard.

What are your guys's thoughts on this?

Also, is there anything on there that you think needs to be improved or fixed?

I missed your post (forgot to refresh). If I understand correctly, you're saying that essentially character and difficulty should be swapped?

Changing the Axis of character and category makes a lot more sense to me, it is standard for users to scroll down. Scrolling horizontally makes the page much less mobile/user friendly, thanks for the input demolition.

I'll change the two, and we can see how it turns out.

Digging the new additions and the Leedle categories! Gonna try some LWBDN (luigi wins by doing nothing) runs soon! Also interested in Tri if we can get a team together 😉

Those 3 categories are jokes, I implore you to use your better judgement and use the time attempting those categories on real attempts at real categories as we will be looking to "beef up" these leaderboards in the coming months. As far as I can tell there are no more decisions that need to be made and I am satisfied with the current organization/presentation, I think we may be ready to start transferring runs. Any additional issues I am missing?

I missed the last 2 posts here somehow...

As Ghillie said, the last 3 aren't actual speedrun categories, and I just put them in there as a joke while making categories. Though I guess I can explain the three of them...

Tri-Attack is an actual challenge we've done. Prime made a ton of challenges, some legitimate, some questionable, and that was one of them. So, when we were bored, wanted to do something, but didn't feel like doing anything, we did Tri-Attack attempts. It was a fun way to do nothing, maybe practice techskill, and just generally fool around while talking with each other. That said, so far, I'm the only one to have successfully completed it... 😛

Luigi Wins by doing Nothing is self explanatory. It's not a speedrun, and was more of a meme than anything. I added random rules to make it look like a category (and so that Master Hand was 'possible'), but... well, doing nothing is not a speedrun Kappa.

RaccAttack... well, just look at the rules. I actually crashed the category for making the rules have RaccAttack too many times, so now I can't edit it, and I think the only way to change that is by deleting the category (which I'll do along with the other two once everything is transfered over). Anyways, RaccAttack is an emote we spam very often in our chats, if that explains that 😛

Anyways, hope that helps out 😛
