Surprise Party frame rule:

Now that we have debated the frame rule should be a thing I wanna move to a more clear end timing method so that I can properly time the ends. I suggest once we get a full fade to black. I will adjust all things accordingly but I wanted to notify everyone so that people could adjust for future runs.

Also want to make the note that I would rather not allow milliseconds for any% but there is no way to allow milliseconds for individual categories. So until there is I will simply clip off any milliseconds that are submitted.

So basically instead of ending time on interaction we basically wait until we reappear in the hub. I may have missed the debate but what's the reason for this? Is it just so verification is easier?

As a runner it's much easier to hit the split button at the exact same time as I press interact with the present: sometimes I even bind split to interact for that reason.

I may be showing some bias since my only other game doesn't require verification so I can't relate to the potential time annoyance of having to verify runs. Just sees (in my opinion) a bit counter-productive to the runners.

fade to black is a very common usage of splits. I can't rely on trust you splitting on the exact same frame as you hitting the button. That method would not account for human error or just straight up lying. I think I'm probably also gonna change to fade to black on the start as well. It just makes sense to me. Unless you can come up with a better idea this is probably what I'm going with. Shouldn't cause too much change in the times and I'm going to adjust all runs accordingly so it should be fine.

For surprise party my suggestion would be the point the interaction prompt disappears which happens the moment you interact with the present (both at the start and end). Doing this means there will be less adjusting for the runs and (in my opinion) less human error as they try to use "best judgement" on when the run starts/ends. For me at least it is much easier to just either bind both keys to the same button for frame perfect split or to hover my finger over the split key and press it the moment I hit interact.

Will probably save you having to do such big re-timing if they prove necessary.

I rewatched my last run on YT and I may have been slightly off in my statement that the prompt immediately disappears. In my vid it disappeared exactly 3 frames (video frames not necessarily game frames) after I interacted with it but it was consistent both times with my timing.

I still stand by that this is better than fade-to-black as it means less room for errors of judgement on the runner's part.

Sorry, I may be missing something here, but doesn't the game immediately start fading to black as soon as you select the present at the end? So you can tell if someone has hit the split too early? Also what frame rule? I'm a bit lost I think.

Also, I agree with the milliseconds thing, just set them to 0 for other categories. Shame you can't set per category. Seems like poor design on the site's part.

frame rule just means what frame we decide defines the start and end of the run, doing the frame when the exclamaion point disappears does seem like the better solution so i adopted that. The ones I just accepted, I changed the times slightly in order to follow this rule.
