I found a helpful bug. Do a move, then immediately press undo while the ship is still moving. The window to activate the bug is pretty big, but it's hard to do with just the mouse. Try using the numpad for movement and the mouse to click undo. If successful, it won't undo your move. Instead, you will move without turning. There is a drawback, though. Doing this bug messes with the undo feature. If you undo normally afterward, the board state reverts until it reaches a turn where you did a non-strafe move(if it reaches an event that can't be undone, you aren't allowed to undo). Anyway, this drawback won't prevent you from strafing.
