Oil Ocean 2 boss kill weirdness

Hi all,

Can someone explain what's going on with my last boss hit here?

https://vid.me/kcHk

I released my spindash to avoid dying and I got bounced back, meaning that I hit the boss, but the boss didn't get hit. As this was the second time it happened to me, I didn't even try to hit the boss when it came back, as I knew my hit would take effect then.

But still, what's going on here? Is this one frame off of the game crashing last-frame-hit or something?

Thanks!

Wow I've never seen that before.

My best guess would be that you accidentally jumped just before hitting him and him unloading the very next frame so that him dying was delayed until he came back.

Alternatively some really funky stuff happened which made you airborne just before hitting him and again him storing the hit somehow.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Jumping is definitely a possibility as I was trying to get out of the oil as I thought I wouldn't make it. But how does jumping/being airborne change anything versus just spindashing in/into him?

I would concur. The hit registered 1 frame after his I-Frames engaged which caused a delay until I-Frames were released

Well, seen as though you can die in Sonic 1 by going off the screen, I think this is the same case here; but just not going off of the screen. Nice find, though :D

Hello Everyone!

Over the past week, speedrun community members of Sonic 2 have discussed and voted on a potential switch to the primary timing method for Sonic 2, which has been IGT (In-Game Time) for as long as the game has been ran. IGT promotes a playstyle that abuses pausing, which gets amp
