Brand new to speedrunning! Please help!

Greetings

I am starting to train speedrunning and am starting with one of my favorite games - Sonic 2.

Can anyone push me in the right direction as to a rules list of what is/isn't allowed?

I currently use a Sega Genesis 1 (non-HD Gfx model), plugged into a CRT TV, using original game cart.

I guess the only 2 questions I have are, will this be a legal way to run and post scores?

Secondly, am I allowed to use a 3rd party genesis controller? I am not looking to get a modded one or anything, just something that feels better on the hands.

Thanks in advance, Techpalms

If you go to the full-game leaderboard, there's a "View Rules" button for each category, and yes, your setup would be allowed.

Ok, so it doesn't say anything in there about using other controllers other than the stock controller that came with the genesis.

In other words, I should be allowed to use an updated 6 button genesis controller.

Yup, that's fine... some top runners use custom made fight sticks for speedrunning Sonic games on a genesis.

As long as you don't take advantage of features like macros or turbo, you're good to go with 3rd party controllers.

Thanks for all the kind replies. Can't wait to start training!

See ya on the leaderboards!
