So for original console players, you're saying the way to manipulate swimsuit RNG is to just start the game from a hard reset without letting the demo play through?
Unless it is really good RNG or you found a manipulation. I haven't heard of this happening on either console or emulator.
I just condensed the Any% category to have w/ AI and w/o AI as sub-categories. If anybody sees that their run is missing, please let me know and I will look for it (I think I found all of them, but I am not 100% certain).
As far as co-op, yeah, the rules are pretty much the same as w/o AI but just the requirement of having two human players.
The thing about With AI vs. Without AI is that the two runs are very different and one relies more heavily on RNG than the other. Without AI is overall faster because you can get excellent gear very early, plus you can abuse the Darkling's Come Here ability in certain situations if you time it right, whereas it's not the case With AI, but people do like the challenge of speedrunning with the added RNG of the AI, hence the two separate categories.
And Co-Op runs, while can be similar to Without AI, still add a new element to the game in relying on a second person to do things, communicating with each other, and trusting that the team will sync up with each other. Co-op is a different beast entirely and in my opinion deserves a separate category still.
That being said, I can see where Any% and Any% w/o AI can be put into a "Solo" category with With AI and Without AI as sub-categories, while "Co-op" can be its own category with 2-P, 3-P, and 4-P as sub-categories.
I will say as an update to the Easy Mode release for the Genesis/Mega Drive Mini 2 that encounter-skipping is a lot harder due to the faster walking speed.
Could be interesting to see how that would work.
I know there are steps you can take outside of here if the mods are inactive.
Click on "More" on the top menu, then go to "Support Hub". Request type: "Request Support" and Category: "Run not Verified". There are instructions there on what you can do at this point.
The Steam version on Genesis Classics is considered an official release, so it is a valid way to play it. Just put PC down when it asks for Console.
And good luck on your runs! This run is a blast if things go well.
I personally would love to see more PSU talk and speedruns. I want to run the game myself but it is just a really long game and I can't run anything more than 3 hours these days.
The server has over 200 people, some of which are also interested in PSU but either haven't done much or just there wasn't an interest at the time. You all can feel free to join that server and use that channel, or just hang around with the rest of the community. :)
There is a channel for Phantasy Star Universe speedruns in the Phantasy Star Phriends discord, which covers all series (Classic, Online, Universe), (though not much activity in the Online or Universe series currently). You're welcome to use that as an already established discord if you'd like, or you can use the one that was already created. If you'd like the link, I can provide it.
Good day. I have had a run awaiting verification for a month now for Langrisser I & II (https://www.speedrun.com/langrisser_i_and_ii). I have attempted to message the moderator on that leaderboard but have not heard anything back. I would just like to request to become an additional moderator for this game.
Silly question, but if this pattern is entirely frame-based, then would it be possible that saving before first talking to Pazuzu, doing soft (or hard) reset to set the RNG back to original, load the file, then talk to Pazuzu that you might be able to find the frame to get the most optimal results, or at least consistent results? Or does RNG in this game get loaded to the state it was at on save?
This has probably already been done, but this is all new to me, so forgive me if this is a redundant question.
Hi all! I made a quick tutorial for ALF as it was requested recently. It goes over just a beginner route and eliminates a lot of the death warps (Cat Strats), but the more comfortable you get with the game, the more risky you can do things.
If there are any questions that the video didn't answer (or if there are any questions that the video caused), let me know and I'll try to explain. I sorta did it by the seat of my pants.
EDIT: It was noted that the bats move a bit differently on emulator than they do on some consoles, so you may have to Salami Jump the first bat on the first platform. There was some information released about this previously. If I (or anyone else) can find it, we will post it.
I've got a marathon/beginner safe route that works pretty well at making sure you have the best chances of finishing the run (cat strats, minimizing death warps in the streets and lake). I'll put together a video as soon as I can with details.
Hey all. I noticed there were options to list a game under SNES Classic, NES Classic, PS Classic, and even NG Mini, but where is the Genesis Mini located when editing a game to contain that as one of the playable options? For that matter, even TG16 Mini is nowhere to be seen either.
Am I just not seeing it?
Hi there. Emulator runs are mostly okay, just make mention of what android emulator you are using. I am unfamiliar with android emulators so some of them may not be accurate. You may need to do a little research to make sure you are using one that is valid. Other than that, so long as the video doesn't have any cuts in gameplay, it should be acceptable.
The glitch used is known as the Dark Sword glitch. Basically, once you pick up the Dark Sword, you go to the church and equip the Dark Sword. It will be cursed, but when you remove the curse, you'll notice your strength go down. Keep doing this until your strength goes below 0. This will cause an underflow and your strength will then skyrocket. You want to keep doing this until your strength is above 1500, then do it one more time (because Levelup would overflow the value to really low numbers). If you do it one more time, your Strength will be static at 1500. Equip the Bronze Sword and you're good for the rest of the game. This route also uses the Old Nick Armor, which does the same thing except for AC. It would be nearly impossible to beat this game low level without the Old Nick Armor glitch.
I knew this game could be broken open with the trader glitch. Huge Kudos for cracking this game wide open!
Does the link expire? It shows as invalid to me.
I just started playing this game and am looking to pick it up for speed. Unlike the original Langrisser/Warsong, I noticed the branching paths and lack of permadeath in most situations.
Are the leaderboards going to have separate sections for what route is taken? I noticed that (so far) for Langrisser 1 that there are at least 7 paths (A-G), but I still haven't finished it, so there may be more. It will be fun to figure out which path is the fastest to go, however.
