SOAP zip

I see that "SOAP zip" refers to that sick new boss skip in scorch 1. However, I have not found documentation of this glitch anywhere online, or even why it's called "SOAP zip" despite the absence of cleaning products in Ristar.

Also, are there any more potential applications of this new find? Any other theorized boss skips? It's amazing to see this game actually start having a speedrun history with the first major skip found after 30 years!

SOAP zip actually refers to the "Switch Online Additional Pack" exclusive zip in the SECOND level of Scorch. It can only be done on the NA version of the switch port.

Noodle skip (the one done in Scorch 1) is doable on every version that we've checked. Therefore, the leaderboard has been split to compensate for the fact that there is a Switch-Exclusive skip.

Hi! I'm afraid there is a misunderstanding. SOAP zip refers to a very specific bug used in 3-2, that's exclusive to the Switch version of the game. Here it is at the end of that clip: https://www.twitch.tv/haramscaram/clip/ManlyKawaiiWalrusPeteZaroll-IiTqGdrtgQF-YKN-

It's called SOAP zip because it is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch Online Additional Pack version of Ristar, and can be explained by the fact that the lua scripting in Nintendo Switch ports can lead to strange side effects.

The Scorch 1 zip is called Noodle skip, in reference to the finder of that strat, StrawberryNoodles, who started speedrunning and discovered this somewhat early in their journey :)

We looked at the details but it seems like there's no other platform like this one. So unfortunately, no new skips! ... yet.

EDIT: Rizztar beat me to it as a true speedrunner :) if you want, more explanations and breakdown are listed in the SRC discord!

Thanks for the input! I mistakenly thought the category had been created in response to the boss skip, as the first video with soap zip in its title featured that skip and it saves more time than the namesake glitch does. Oddly enough the switch version was one of the versions I went through with making the super run before acquiring a JP ROM, and something about that one had seemed off...

Yes, some flashing lights have been removed, on top of additional lua scripting. All versions of the rom on all emulators are accepted still, but SOAP zip will put the run in a new category if it's used!
