RimWorld version Beta19 has been released by Ludeon.

Because there are have been lots of assorted changes, I have moved the old Escape runs into a Misc category and created a new category for Beta19 escape runs.

The most important difference that comes to my mind is that Advanced components must now be built on a different bench. This affects at least build% runs. There is also a way to explicitly request a AI Core quest now.

The integration of allow-tool into the game should also affect other categories a bit, but for now I have not separated the runs for different versions in those categories. I suspect the Craft-oriented challenges may need to be separated, because the work amount for at least some craft/build tasks were changed radically.

Input and critical analysis is appreciated.

I changed some category rules in a minor way today. List of changes:

— “Artisan belonging to your colony” was changed into “artisan working for your colony”. This affects the sculpture & hat runs. Reason: Enabling an option for a possible future where prisoners or visitors may do labor for your colony. Loots, purchases and gifts from heaven are still banned for the category-fulfilling item, as are mods.

— “Prisoners may belong to any faction” was changed into “The affiliations of the prisoners are irrelevant (i.e. they can be from any faction or from none at all)”. This affects 20 prisoners runs. This was so that the rules are no longer ambiguous with respect to the status of unaffiliated pod people.

— Added “Battle(s) must ensue” into the summary of the ancient danger category. This is not a normative rule, but just a quick summary of the extensive rules in the category.

— “Next to a devilstrand growth zone” was changed into “following a devilstrand harvest”. This was to allow the behavior in beta19 where the harvesting person does not immediately drop the harvested item, but it is clearly observed in their hands.

— Rule “Video: [...] UI elements that are important for judging must not be cropped or obscured by split-tracking/chat/camera overlays” was added to all categories.

There is also one major change:

The Sea Ice category now has an additional restriction that the outside temperature on the Primary World must never rise above −20°C (−4°F). There is no longer a restriction on the “overall temperature” setting in the “create world” screen. The biome must still be sea ice; e.g. ice sheet or hills will not do.

There is also now a new category “Extreme Desert” with the following restrictions compared to “any biome”:

In the new Extreme Desert category, the outside temperature on the Primary World must never fall below +40°C (+104°F). Despite the category name, any biome can be chosen. But compliant tiles are probably never anything other than extremely deserts anyway.

Primary World definition:

Is defined as the world where your primary colony is set on. It is usually where you land, but you are allowed to migrate to another compliant tile, as long as the time spent migrating is negligible compared to the time spent maintaining a colony. Additionally, temporary outside colonies are permitted, as long as they are short-lived in nature for some particular purpose like mining and exploration. Runs where the primary colony is abandoned (either explicitly or effectively) without a replacement will be disqualified for both of these categories. In unclear cases the judges/moderators reserve the right to arbitrate the decision.

Scope

Effective new runs submitted since 2018-09-20. The current two existing runs for Sea Ice category (both are beta18) are exempt of these rules.
