Can another version of the game beside JPN be played?

I ask because the rules says you must have a tracker, but there is no tracker available besides for the JPN version.

Sweden

For online, JP is the only one that will work (which can be patched to English...mostly some minor text doesn't translate but otherwise works). You're better off just following the instruction for JP (same game once patched to English).

Uruguay

I meant for offline.

Sweden

I think there's no good reason why you'd use the non JP version of the game. Simply download the JP version, patch it to English (or whatever language you prefer if there are options) and play. It's the version everyone uses and while the versions should be the same I can imagine there may well be differences. All the offline runs on the leaderboard are the same JP version too.

Uruguay

UhTrance has his offline runs on another version besides JPN, and there is a maybe "glitches" that are not in the JPN version, and I think no one should be prohibited from playing a faster version of a game.

Uruguay

But why is there an issue? And another question, why is even a tracker to being with?

Uruguay

Well can I play a different version or not? And why is there a tracker? Just wanna get anwsered you know.

Uruguay

Well people can cheat on a ps2 really easy and there is not a tracker for a ps2 (and I think I can use any version of the game, cus the rules don't specify anything), and I don't see the tracker could be useful on offline runs.

Uruguay

But can I use another version besides JPN? Or what happens if some plays Europe version on a ps2? It will be allowed because you can't put a tracker? And is it unfair for people who use emulators? Do I require to have a big saving glitch to use one of those versions?

Uruguay

Emulator, but what distinct advantages it has over console?

Uruguay

But anyways, I want to know if I upload a wr with the Europe version but because there is no tracker, it will be rejected?

Uruguay

There is a glitch that has been know long ago by all people on the leaderboard, and UhTrance did it in his Hellfire run, but because his run was made before the new rules, now his WR could be unbeatable due the new rules because no one can play his version.

Uruguay

So the Hellfire run should be unbeatable due rules?

Uruguay

Well I think that would be the worst resolution ever, why don't you think about allowing everyone to choose their versions of the game? It's easier, simple and better.

Uruguay

But this leaderboard does not provide any SRT for other versions besides JPN... so you are limiting people only playing on the JPN version.

Ohio, USA

Outbreak is restricted to just the JPN version due to it being the only version able to access online this is also why it is the only version to have the SRT. No one plays on the non - JPN versions anymore. It is just as accessible as any other version of the game on EMU so there is no reason not to use it end of story.

Also I would like to hear about how a different version is faster considering the game runs off IGT and every version I've ever seen including the PAL release is 60hz.

Uruguay

Online is not an argument on why to use the JPN version on offline mode, the SRT does not help in anything, because it could be easy to avoid it and cheat; and no one plays another version in speedrunners cus there is not actually a lot of speedrunners on the leaderboard, and yes there are WR with other versions beside the JPN version, you can check it by just clicking on the runs on the Level Leaderboard.

I know no one should know everything about the games and how it works, differences within versions, but lack of knowledge on runs that are posted in the leaderboards amaze me; a while back there was an issue with a runner and his run on Hellfire, and he had the puzzle completed, some people asked him on who he did it, he may not know what he did, but some people called him things after that.

Do know how much time I spent and figured that out? Less than a day, which makes me believe that people who moderated and moderate, don't actually watch the submitted runs, and make useless rules thinking they know about the game.

Just my opinion ay.

Uruguay

What? And why is the SRT necessary?

Uruguay

Yeah, using SRT is like a TAS, and I know it wasn't put in the rules because of cheating, it was just to take adventage of it. And yeah I'm complaining and argumenting about what I believe; if you don't like to argument what you say because that's the way you fix thing, good for you, I will still complain about thing I personally don't like.

Now, people who speedrun on PS2, they should have a tracker too? Play the JPN version too? Is it worth to keep speedrunning on real hardware with such disadvantage?

The SRT only helps the runner (which I think it makes the run a TAS) and does nothing against cheaters. At least let people play with the version they think is the fastest, and keep the SRT for JPN runs, and make it optional.

And yes, maybe the times are beatable, but with the difference of version could make a bigger gap of time.

At least let people play with the version they think is fastest, and keep the SRT for JPN runs, and make it optional.
