Extended Assisted NG+ Tips and Trick
Updated 3 years ago by Swervelord

Hello, my name is swervelord, and I love playing re3 remake. The game hasn't gotten the best ratings with critics, but I think it's a very fun game to play and a great speedrun to learn. New game plus is a pretty easy category. I would personally say that the route is straightforward and easy to comprehend and that truly the hardest part of the game would be menuing, and not making small mistakes with movement.

There are a number of things to go over, and this list may even lack a trick or two. I have been grinding NG+ for approx. 1 month (written August 1 2020) and have picked up a lot of tricks watching Orchlon, Mike Wave, KJEnder, and repgsuspenser. Some of these tricks will definitely work with other categories, so feel free to try them elsewhere.

  1. Items For NG+, we will be grabbing some items from the bonus shop and picking them up in the first item box after we reach the subway. Note: if you are serious about the speedrun, and have already purchased more than the necessary items in the bonus shop, I would recommend that you delete your save data, use the trainer to unlock the bonus shop and shop points and only buy the necessary items. This is precious time save you will want if you are serious about running the category. It's much better to mash your items into your inventory, as opposed to filtering through all the other items you have unlocked as well.

You will want to purchase the following items:

  • Lockpick
  • Bolt cutters
  • STARS Field Combat Manual (This is pretty optional for Jill. I have seen Runners not use this for Jill and have no problems. However, this is absolutely essential for Carlos. If you skip this for Jill, you can avoid deleting an item later in the run. I personally choose to run with it.)
  • Assault Coin
  • Assault Coin (2 total)
  • Infinite Launcher
  1. Major tricks Next, I will list some major tricks that are used several times during the run. You should become second nature with these tricks, as they will save you a lot of time.

Stair skating: If you press aim and release quickly while walking on stairs, you will get a small boost. You do not want to do this too fast, but you want to do it fairly rapidly. It is quickest to do this with the infinite launcher. It is not ideal to run with the infinite launcher as Jill but switching so just before stairs and stair skating with the rocket launcher is HIGHLY recommended to trim some precious seconds off your time.

Radio calls freeze in game time: This trick is pretty self-explanatory by the title of the trick. Never skip radio calls until you are ready to go through a door or perform an action such as climb a ladder. Speaking on the radio with Carlos, or Tyrell freezes the in-game time and is free movement. This trick is used several times during the run.

Dodge/Dash/Punch animation cancelling: For the most part, running in the game is the fastest movement. However, there are many opportunities during the run where you can save time by dashing into an objective where you need to click or interact that can be made faster by cutting off the recovery animation from the dash by activating the objective, such as a ladder, to quick start cut-scenes or the pulse core power plugs in NEST2.

Running faster in Caution: Jill runs faster in caution. There are a few different spots in the game where we will intentionally cause Jill damage to put Jill into caution in as short amount of time as possible to enable her to run faster throughout the run. Mike Wave claims the caution strategy costs about 3 seconds of time but will save you about 10 seconds of time. This will be discussed further in the run, but it is important to understand the reason why we put Jill into caution.

Aiming down sight skips some recovery animations: This trick is pretty straightforward. If you aim your weapon with precise timing, you can skip cover animations performed. The first instance of this trick is when Nemesis crashes through the wall and starts chasing Jill for the first time after the power station.

Infinite Launcher dialogue skip: If you fire a rocket onto the ground near you/NPCs you can save time by causing an explosion and cutting the dialogue short. This can be used several times during the run. Most notably, you will use this at the first item box in RPD with Carlos to skip around 15-20 seconds of Tyrell dialogue. This will be discussed further in the guide.

45 degree turns: if you drag your mouse left or right and aim while doing so, you can turn a lot faster than if you were to just attempt to turn your character to the left or right. This is very useful multiple times during the run and will save you a lot of time if you master it.

Camera manipulation: If you position your camera a certain way, specifically all the way up, or all the way down, you can prevent certain things. Such as the first hunter encounter with Carlos from swiping you and nemesis jumping to the top of the stairs in front of the donut shop after you establish a subway route as Jill. This will also be discussed further in the guide.

  1. The run: I will go through several tricks used during the entire run in this section. This will not be a walkthrough but will highlight where to use certain tricks when. It is likely there may be a trick I don't know about, but if you work in all the tricks I go through in this section, you can easily achieve runs in the 45:xx time and possibly even break into 44:xx. At the time of writing this guide, Mike Wave holds the world record @ 44:13. I will be breaking this section into sub-sections and listing the major tricks used. I will not go into 45 degree turns here, as they are used many, many times during the run, but I recommend you figure this out on your own by watching some of the runners mentioned previously in the guide and implementing them into your run.

A) Apartment: The apartment is pretty straightforward. You want to escape as fast as you can. The pace you should be aiming for is 1:07, however, 1:06 is absolutely possible. There are 2 things to mention for tricks used during the apartment. Make sure you hug the wall, bed, stool, etc. As close as you can to run optimal lines. You do not want to overcorrect or get caught on anything as this costs time. There are two sets of stairs that Jill will run down during the apartment escape section. If you press forward rapidly (W for me on PC by default) you can stair skate these stairs. This will save you at least 2-3 seconds by stair skating here.

B) Downtown: The first trick used in the downtown section is skipping the recovery animation from the sign falling just after you pick up the handgun from the dead cop. This will need to be practiced a couple of times to figure out the timing, but once you do, you will be able to perform this trick consistently. I prefer to use the knocked over trash can as a visual aid. Once I am about to pass the trash can, I personally perform 3 dashes. Immediately after the third dash you will hear or see the sign fall. You can press inventory (Tab on PC) quickly twice to open and close your inventory and this will skip the recovery animation that Jill normally performs covering her face, stopping you in your tracks. Because you are dashing, you will not perform the face cover animation and you will automatically go under the sign. Whenever you reach the item box, make sure to withdraw all your items and THEN deposit the assault rifle and rifle ammo. Then drag the items in the first 3 inventory slots to the slots that the AR and ammo were in. This will save you precious time inventorying by having key items in the first slot later in the run.

The second trick used in this run is placing yourself into caution. This can be done immediately after the tall drink of water cutscene where the 3 zombies burst through the fence and open the path to the donut shop. The easiest way to perform this trick is to walk straight into the box in front of the barrel as the cutscene ends. This will trap the zombie with the reflective vest to get caught on the opposite side of the wooden box. As he is finishing his aggro dash, you can step in front of him and shoot the rocket launcher at your feet. This will kill all three zombies, and cause an explosion from the red barrel that will propel you towards the stairs you will be going down, and most importantly, put you into caution so that Jill will run faster. It is recommended that you shoot the red barrel after you pass through the donut shop on the way to Kite Bros, as this will save you some RNG of zombies being right in front of the door as you pass through this area a couple more times.

The next trick used in this run is also intentionally causing Jill some damage so that whenever she eats the green herb at the power station, she will remain in caution. The damage from the red barrel is not enough to keep her in caution after eating this herb. Just before you use the hose on the fire hydrant to put out the fire, dash into the fire and take 4 ticks of fire damage. If you are using the SRT, you want your health to read somewhere between 375 and 395. This will keep you in caution after eating the herb.

For the next trick, you will want to dash through the door immediately after the fire and pressing the action button (F by default on pc) to open the menu and use the bolt cutters on the Murphy door. Doing this will prevent you from experiencing the short loss of control caused by Jill asking herself "Is someone in there?"

As you are rounding the stairs to go into the power station room with the item box and hip pouch, there is a zombie with an emergency vest on the stairs. If you perform a 45 degree turn and hug the left side of the stairwell, you can perform a perfect dodge and clip through this zombie as you perform the dodge. This is a minimal time save and is slightly difficult to perform, but every second counts in this run.

The next trick is performed immediately after you open the lock with the lockpick in front of the power station entrance. After you open this lock, go through the gate and trigger the cutscene where you become infected with the brain sucker's parasite. After the cutscene walk through the gate and shoot a rocket at your feet a few feet in front of you. Before the rocket explodes, press inventory (tab on PC) and eat your green herb. If you cause yourself to do the blast cover animation after you eat the herb, you will only do the blast cover animation and completely skip the vomit animation. This area is a good example of where you can save some time by performing 3 dashes into the four levers and cancelling the dash animation recovery by going straight into the HOLD animation where Jill flips the switch. This is also a good spot to practice some 45 degree turns and you will be changing directions several times during the maze. As you walk back up the stairs, as you reach the small staircase and turn left, you can dash into the building and start the cutscene a bit sooner. You can repeat this trick immediately after the cutscene by dashing into the next room and causing the radio call with Carlos as early as possible.

Nemesis will crash through the wall in the next area and will start chasing Jill. It is scripted that Jill will cover her face and stop moving when Nemesis crashes through the wall, however, you can skip this cover animation if you aim your weapon just before Nemesis crashes through the wall. This can also be skipped by doing a dash just before he crashes through, but I find it more consistent to do the aim. You want to aim your weapon or dash just after Jill steps on the rubble on the ground before he crashes through the wall. I usually perform the aim on the second step that Jill is on the rubble. You will figure this trick out fairly quickly if you practice this yourself.

The next trick is a chain dodge performed after you go through the donut shop, on the way to Kite Bros for the second time. There are two zombies that block the entrance to Kite Bros, but if you perform the following chain dodge, you can avoid them consistently every time. There is a light pole at the bottom of the stairs at the entrance to Kite Bros. There is also a food container on the ground in the center of the street on your way to these stairs. If you line yourself up straight ahead with the light pole and launch yourself off the food container on the ground, you can perform 3 dashes forward and on the 3rd dash, you will perfectly dodge the first of the two zombies and roll right onto the Kite Bros stairs. You can see an example of this trick at 11:19 in the Twitch VOD of Mike Wave's world record run. As you go into Kite Bros, you can perform 3 dodges starting just before the boxes on your right-hand side. Perform 2 forward dashes to get into the room and one right dash to dash down the stairs, and you will cue the radio call with Carlos.

The first instance of camera manipulation that I know of can be done after you go through the donut shop again and see Nemesis infecting the zombie. Dodge Nemesis' first punch, then aim the camera straight down as you stair skate up the stairs. This will prevent Nemesis from jumping to the top of the stairs in front of you. Keep your camera down until you pass the gate into the alleyway as he can jump in front of the gate too.

After you stair skate down the stairs in the subway, make sure to dash into the cutscene to save some time.

C) Sewers: After you open the yellow grate, you will be in the next area. You can dash into the door and cancel the recovery animation of the dash by triggering the animation to close the door. Immediately after this, with perfect timing, you can perform a dash just before Jill tries to reach Carlos on the radio. Practice this a few times to get the timing down as I find this trick to be pretty inconsistent but is worth the free movement.

After you stair skate down the second set of stairs in the sewers, perform a 45 degree left turn, and then dash 3 times to cancel the recovery animation with the slide down into the area with the hunter gammas.

The first gamma is the only gamma that you should shoot. Make sure to shoot him from far away with the launcher so you do not receive the blast cover animation. You can easily dash through the areas where the remaining hunter gammas spawn. I recommend watching a runner's run on speedrun.com to see ideal positions to start your dodges, as these positions are somewhat difficult to explain just in text but are very easy to dodge through. The second to last hunter gamma, just before the ladder, can have his face cover animation skipped if you perform the aim down sight technique properly, but this is, or is pretty close to frame perfect and is slightly difficult to perform. The same trick can be performed on the last hunter gamma of the sewers just before you unlock the gate to get the battery pack back.

After you place the battery pack in the last door, stair skate one or twice and then dodge up the stairs 3 times to start the radio call with Carlos. This will save you a small amount of time.

D) Nemesis 1: Try to dodge roll the zombie just outside the garage door so that you can perfect dodge directly under the door and cue the cutscene of Jill shutting the door. Walk up the stairs with the plastic cover over them. You do not need to stair skate these stairs. There is a zombie blocking the entrance to the stairs you will walk up next. Simply run by the zombie on his right side. He will never bite you because he has to spin all the way around to be able to touch you. Make sure to stair skate, 45 degree turn, and dodge cancel everywhere you can on your way up the building.

For the Nemesis 1 boss fight, you can easily kill him quickly by shooting 4 rockets into him, then pulling out the knife and cutting him twice. repgsuspenser and KJEnder are able to down this boss with 3 rockets, but I have not exactly figured out what they do differently to down him in 3 over the 4 it normally takes. repgsusepnder claims that if you cause a blast cover animation on the final rocket, you can switch to the knife faster and end the fight even quicker. In the beginning, start by firing four rockets and then finishing him off with two knife swipes, then move on to trying to kill him with 3 rockets and 2 knife swipes.

E) Finishing Downtown: After the fight, dash twice into the radio call with Carlos to save a bit of time. When you are on the fire truck, perform 3 dashes and cancel the recovery animation with Jill jumping off the fire truck to save some time. Make sure to also do 3 dodges to cue cutscenes during the rocket Nemesis chase scene.

After you finish rocket Nemesis, you can dodge into the ladder and cancel the recovery animation. If you dodge holding forward and right you can dash straight down the ledge. You can also perform another dash before the radio call with perfect timing. This one is like the sewer radio call and it’s pretty tricky to get the time down. You can cue the cutscene to get the head rolling down the stairs slightly quicker if you dash into the orange traffic cones on the left set of stairs.

Once you see Carlos at the end of the alleyway, make sure to dash forward after you round the corner and cue the claymore cutscene. Your first instance of rocket dialogue skip is just ahead. You can skip some dialogue in the hallway before he busts open the blue door by shooting a rocket. You can then repeat this trick as Carlos begins to crank the gate open. This will save you a second or two by skipping this dialogue by having Carlos go straight into cranking the gate open. Stair skate down the final sets of stars and dash to the bottom of the stairs in front of the subway to cue the transition into the RPD section.

F) RPD: You can handle Brad a number of different ways. I think it's best to pump at least 15 handgun bullets into brad and then reload, as this will remove the handgun ammo from Carlos' inventory and save you one more item to deposit. Some people do nothing, some people kill him with the AR, some people let him bite them. You are free to choose whatever you like as even depositing the handgun ammo doesn’t even amount to half of a second. It is worth nothing that Carlos does not have his run speed effected by running with the rocket launcher like Jill does.

I personally think RPD has the biggest time save skip in the entire run. As soon as you get into the RPD, pull only the rocket launcher out of the item box and position Carlos' back to Tyrell's back. Shoot 2 rockets at the ground and you will go right into the terminal cutscene. This will skip 15-20 seconds of dialogue. Then go back to the item box and withdraw the dodge book and deposit the handgun, knife, and AR ammo. You will not use the Assault rifle, but you can leave it there to save some time depositing items. Make sure to withdraw the book before you deposit items so that you have slots 1 and 2 open for key items.

Carlos has an interesting interaction with his dodge mechanics. Carlos punches, up to twice, instead of dashing like Jill does. This can be used to your advantage in several ways as the punch extends Carlos' hit box. You aim your weapon after punching to cancel the rest of the Carlos punch animation. You can use this trick on the first 2 zombies in the hallway of the RPD. Some people choose to 45 degree turn right the second zombie that bursts through the door, but this is slightly riskier than doing the punch and animation cancel.

The rest of RPD is pretty straightforward. Make sure to stair skate, dodge into radio calls, and 45 degree turn where you can. The only thing really worth mentioning for the rest of RPD is that after you place the detonator and kill the zombies in the following room, a zombie bursts through the door just before the licker. You can completely ignore the zombie that busts thru and walk through the door frame on the left side. You can also run right past the licker on the way into the STARS office.

G) Nemesis 2: Welcome back to Jill. In the dilapidated sewers, there isn't much to mention. Make sure to dash cancel into the doors, cutscenes, and radio calls.

After the boss fight, Jill will attempt to call Carlos. As soon as she puts her radio down, shoot a rocket on the ground to skip some dialogue and jump straight into the following cutscene.

H) Hospital: In the hospital just before the zombie bursts through the door, you can shoot the closed door, which will kill all the zombies in the room and the zombie on the other side of the door, and the door will still swing open. Make sure to punch cancel out the windows and door locks.

The first notable trick in the hospital is after you obtain the key card and encounter the first hunter. Drag your camera all the way up and the hunter will not swipe Carlos. This is the last known instance of camera manipulation that I know of so if you know of another spot please let me know! I'm on speedrun.com and have my discord linked as well.

During the COD: Zombies part of the hospital, when the lights go out, you can shoot a rocket at the floor to skip a small dialogue between you and Tyrell. If you stand right on the other side of the door that the hunter bursts through, you can get him to come through the door slightly faster.

I) Hospital Underground: If you brought the dodge book with Jill, you will need to delete an item from Jill's inventory. Kendo's key is in slot 1 currently so that would be ideal and quick to discard. If you didn't bring the dodge book, feel free to skip this step entirely.

In hospital underground, we will perform the second and final caution strategy with Jill. After you try to use the lift and the breakers blow, while still on the lift, aim with your pistol and shoot the pale head down from the rafter. Run, do not dash, toward the lift lever until the pale head starts pushing himself up. When he puts his palms on the ground and starts pushing himself up, then you can dash into the lever. Pull the lever and do not move or press anything, even forward, as this will shake the pale head off. Let the pale head perform a full bite on you. This should perfectly line up with the lift opening its small doors for you to get on and go to fuse one. After the dog section, dash straight into the shelf on the left so that the zombie just before the slide through area will have a free shot at biting your back. You can shake this zombie off after about half of a bite. After this, you should be successfully in caution again. After you slide through the narrow enclosure between shelves, your camera will be locked forward for a few seconds. You have two choices to deal with this: either move right (D on PC by default) or you can press Pause Menu (not inventory; Esc on PC by default) and unpause to unlock the camera. Proceed as normal.

When you go back up the lift and meet back up with Tyrell, you can rocket skip the small dialogue where he says "We'll find the vaccine up ahead." However, I don't believe this saves any time. However, in the very next room, if you are able to dash in front of Tyrell, you can use him to push you forward at a faster pace than you could normally run. This is called Tyrell surfing. Once you reach the end of the hallway and immediately before they start talking again, you can shoot a rocket at the door in front of you and skip the rest of the dialogue and go immediately into the NEST2 entrance cutscene.

J) NEST2: Welcome to the final stretch of the game. First thing to mention is when you walk into the override key room, you can dodge the first zombie by hugging the bags hanging on your right and dodging to the right as you round the corner. You can safely run through the rest of the room. On your way back, shoot the bags hanging to your right (third from the left/farthest bag from you) and this should kill the zombie on the staircase you are about to run up, as well as the remaining pale heads in the room.

Nemesis 3: Shoot one rocket and let him down himself. If you shoot more than one rocket, it will take longer for him to down than necessary. Finish him by shooting 3 more rockets. Again, some runners can achieve killing him with only 2 rockets, but I have not yet figured out the trick to making him die with one less rocket. Watch Mike Wave's WR run, and maybe you can see how to kill him with 3 total rockets.

Nemesis 4: The final trick on the run is known as the "dick shot." This will take some practice to figure out. If you shoot Nemesis in just the right spot with the launcher, you will be able to pop both boils with the same explosion. The sweet spot is somewhere near the center of the low part of his body. Starting on the left as the rocket is firing, start pushing in the left pulse core and then push in the two on the right. You can push all 3 in on the same down.

Congratulations on your run. Keep grinding and you will get your time down for sure!
