How to cap FPS?

Hello everyone!

Trying to casually get into speedrunning the game on PC for a bit but I am a bit confused about the rules - specifically regarding FPS. It says recordings need to show FPS all the time and "it must be set to a value of either 30, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90 or 120, and you cannot switch between two different FPS settings within the run".

What is meant by "FPS setting" in this case? I assume that it means an FPS cap, because if I watch the submitted runs on here the FPS seem to be capped and never exceed the specific FPS value shown in the run - but if that's the case I cannot find a setting anywhere in the game that would allow you to cap the FPS, only the dynamic resolution scaling target FPS, which still allows the FPS to go above that value.

Do I need to apply a cap in some other way? Like can this somehow be done in the NVIDIA control panel?

Thanks in advance and have a great day. :)

Well it turns out I already answered my own question, at least for the NVIDIA case. Should have searched around just a few minutes more before posting, haha. In case anyone else is wondering the same thing, though:

To lock at 60 fps you just need to enable vsync, for anything higher MSI Afterburner is the way most people lock them.

I play at 60 fps so vsync is what I use, I have never tried Afterburner before, but online there are a few tutorials of how to lock fps with it.

Thanks for the reply, NoraV! Hmm that's weird, because I always had VSync enabled, yet FPS still climbed over the 60 all the time and seemed uncapped. Maybe the cap is then equal to the monitor's refresh rate, which would put it at 240 for me, far higher than what I can achieve in this game lol

Well since I figured out how to do it in the control panel I won't have any issues by just using that :)

Oh yes if you have a monitor with more than 60 fps yes it will cap to the hz of your monitor. As you said earlier yes there is a way to lock fps with nvidia graphics card (I have an AMD one so I don't know how to) so go with that, it's easy and it doesn't need external programs like Afterburner.
