Hey so I submitted a run with a random video the other day because I wanted to confirm that this was indeed a "plane" game.
I know the game is indeed speedrunnable, but the fact that you are only able to play it on an Airplane makes it pretty much impossible to run. It implies first being able to afford an airplane trip, but also having to take a trip to somewhere else, just to make a run of this game. And on top of that, you would have to go to the specific Airline (Delta, apparently) that has this game on this seats. And it would get even worse if you consider trying to beat someone's time or grind the game, as it implies having to spend a lot of time on plane trips, which is something that's not really affordable to pretty much anyone.
In other words, it's impossible for this speedrun to be competitive for a lot of external reasons, and because of this there is no point of having this leaderboard and imo it should be deleted.
But yeah just throwing my opinion about this here, don't know what you guys think. There's also a whole lot other reasons why this leaderboard wouldn't work, but I think these are the most important ones.
i think the fact this somehow got on the site, especially with the platform of AirplaneSeats, is truly a miracle of modern day speedrun.com, especially with how moderation and games/platforms are being added. it may suck but its fucking hilarious and i hope it stays on this site forever
The site does allow games that can only be played in specific places, I asked a site staff and they said they were fine with that. I know this leaderboard is weird but the tbf the site staff did allow this. Honestly, this game wasn't meant to be speedrunned by purchasing a flight just for the sake of running this. This game was meant to be runned if you happen to go on a vacation anyways and come across this game and decide to speedrun it while you have the chance. I'm sorry if you guys are mad at me or the site for this, I understand you guys are very confused. If there ever is an accurate emulator for this game I would be glad to allow it so you don't have to purchase airplane tickets to run it.
Yeah, I guessed the point of this leaderboard was just if you casually happened to stumble upon this game, and that it was not meant to be aiming for a good time, or grinding or anything like that. But still the whole point of a leaderboard is to actually make a competitive thing out of the speedrun, which doesn't and won't happen for this game (Unless as you said, an emulator is found or something), so it still doesn't make much sense to have a leaderboard for it, even tho you can speedrun casually if you happen to be on a flight.
But honestly this is just me trying to take this a bit more serious. I don't really mind what happens to this board I just thought it didn't make sense honestly. And as the others said, the whole leaderboard is just hilarious right now. The platform, the rules, the categories. Even the forums. My previous post even looks like a copypasta lol.
Anyway, do what you want, you are the mod anyway. And I was not mad with you or anything, just confused by this leaderboard.
I can see non-competitive leaderboards being boring, but not all leaderboards have to be competitive, I've seen a lot of leaderboards with little activity. The fun of speedrunning isn't just competition, it's also seeing how fast you can do something you love.
In my opinion, the beauty of speedrunning isn't just the big games, it's also the leaderboards for small games and how there are so many options for them. But yeah, this is just my opinion and I don't think this leaderboard should be taken down just because it is weird.
Yeah, I agree with that. I speedrun a lot of small games and I always find a lot of cool things around them, whether there is a competitive leaderboard, or I'm just the only runner.
I think my argument for deleting the board had more to do with the availability of the game, and how problematic it is to access to it in a speedrun context, rather than how "weird" it is. After all, the game looks indeed speedrunnable, so I guess we'll just have to wait for an emulator to appear xD.
perhaps someday the game will get dumped so it can be run on an emulator it looks like its just an android app
The game is actually quite simple, take a look at some of my runs and you'll see. So making an emulator of it might be simple.
you cant guarantee itd be fully accurate though, just remaking the game wouldnt be enough imo android emulators exist so if the game gets dumped somehow it should be possible to run the game on bluestacks or something
I think Bejewled 2 used to be playable on Delta Aircraft Seats as well.
Anybody know an employee of that airline who could dump the game files so we can emulate it? ;)
