New rule?

Alright, so i've been thinking about adding a new rule to all the categories. New rule being that you have to start on a new save file. This is to ensure that all runs are fair and equal. This rule should be pretty obvious, although I've already seen plenty of runs that play on completed files. (In case you don't know, when you play on a new file you lose quite a few seconds and maybe minutes because you have to click through all the "you unlocked this" text boxes) Let me know what you guys think!

I honestly think completed file should be the way to go. If anyone tries to seriously run the game they would have unlocked everything anyway. On top of that it would save even more time. It's like in Luigi's Mansion where they run the NG+ Mansion because it's much faster.

i think you should be able to do it how you want to with subcategories or something that state if youre doing NG or NG+ personally

i agree with Delta386

but there could be a NG and a NG+ catergory thing happening if people are going to run it but based off of the current comments it should probably stay the way it is maybe in the rules note the differance between starting a new game and playing through a new game+

I feel like we can split the categories but going forward just make the NG+ the standard? The text skipping and cutscene skipping isn't indicative of actual gameplay so I am agreeing with Chrism on this one.

Alright, I think i'm just gonna separate them into NG and NG+ categories, so it's easier for everyone. Thanks for the feedback!

Are you not interested in making the category standard NG+? in that case I would just add a column instead of a subcategory with NG or NG+ so everyone starts running NG+!

Hmm actually, let's think this through a bit. Is starting from new game really that indicative of gameplay, it's just mashing through text. The game is already small, we don't need to create arbitrary categories separating people. Can't we just make a new rule for being able to start from a previous file?

Ok, The board has been officially changed. NG and NG+ runs will all remain, and the standard from now on will to be to use a completed file. Meaning, you should probably use a completed save instead of a new one, and if you want to do one with a new game, then more power to you. This has also been added to the rules for each category. Thanks again for the feedback!

Since we have to verify runs, if you start in a NG run it makes the run much easier to verify overall. NG runs always have to play every level but someone with a completed file could slip in a skipped level or something. I'm not saying they would do that but it means with NG+ runs you need to be careful that the runs are legitimate.

I think that if we feel the need to separate it, then it's fine, but a category should only be "main" if it has more community interest, keeping in mind of course that the top 3 times all use NG. But keeping it on the same leaderboard doesn't seem to hurt anything either since there isn't that much time lost or gained in menus. The game is RNG and speed heavy so the time gained by not mashing textboxes here or there is completely arbitrary, and is not going to change anyone's position on the leaderboard just because they had to mash or didn't have to mash.
