I'm under the impression that using a debug menu is not allowed by the typical any% definition.

So I request that you rename the categories in light of that.

Any% --> Any% Debug Any% No Debug --> Any%

i disagree with the "not allowed by the typical any% definition"

any% is usually defined as "anything goes, as long as its doable on console, and nothing is done before starting the run" more or less :P

but I renamed the category to not cause confusion :)

It will be discussed by the runners though, and then the categories will be renamed to what they decide on.

I mainly run this game. I feel like this would cause confusion to people looking at these runs thinking where is any%. Any% is defined clearing the game as fast as possible so any% and any% no debug is a clear way to separate it. If we need to we can just get rid of Any% No Debug and just merge the runs to Any% but people will see massive time differences. So Any% is still labeled right as of now but we can merge them or keep them seperated. :D

(definition) A speedrun is a play-through of a video game performed with the intention of completing a goal as fast as possible, most often to complete the game. Speedruns may cover a whole game or a selected part (such as a single level) and may impose additional requirements beyond quick completion.

Debug menu takes a password to unlock. Passwords are not allowed in any%. If they were allowed, brb I will use password in The Smurfs to go to level 10 and beat it in 2 minutes and call it any% WR. And while I'm at it, might also use Trip World's stage select and go to the final room directly and beat it in 40 seconds. woohoo WR

If you went to the debug menu via a glitch, it would be a different story. Otherwise, you will have to rename it as I proposed and consider it a gimmick category.

  1. you cant generalize it, saying "its not allowed in these games, so it shouldnt be in this"
  2. the runners of the game decided on allowing it.

the reason for allowing it in the speedrun is this: it is doable on console. and it is fully done after the run has started. Any% is to do the game the fastest, with any means available, as long as its done mid run.

I understand that some games do not allow "passwords" but it has been allowed for this game. if you dont like it, run "any% no debug". the option for both are there.

Passwords are not allowed if you did not press start. If you press start on a game the run is legit. In mega man x we have a glitch password meme. Its only a fun category and not a legit category because you never pressed start you started in the password screen and pressed enter. Looking at the Smurfs it is the same way. There is a password menu but its not allowed because you never press start. I also see you have to input a code before the run even starts to access the debug menu during game play witch is not allowed because your doing something before the run. I am also going to have to disagree with not allowing debug in the run.

I would like it if you could list all the runners that agreed to it.

I do not have a problem with allowing debug password in speedruns. I have a problem with the category names. If I were to look for "any%", I'd expect a fastest playthrough, possibly with glitches. But without passwords or cheats. You are going to confuse visitors to your leaderboard that share this mindset.

There are hundreds of games with debug passwords or password screens or konami codes. Guess what, they are all doable on console. So I don't understand your reasoning.

What do you mean by "if you did not press start"? You cannot deny that you used a password on the pause screen.

Please show me one other game where the RTA community agreed on using passwords and called it "any%". I have not seen it before. DBZ Log1 is the first community I see do it and I feel it is wrong. "Any%" means to play through the game with any means available, yes. But it means to play through the game, not use a password to skip ahead.

i can deny that its a password because legacy of goku does not have passwords. You may call it a password does not mean it is. Any game i have seen has a separate password screen this game does not.

I do not see anyone seeing this as a password or cheat code and if they do that is fine they do not have to run it. This not a cheat code or a password it is a menu left behind by the developers just as if they left a glitch in the game. If you do not alter anything before the run and the run is start a new then the run is valid. That is why the invincibility code is not of course allowed in these runs.

it has been discussed again, and the names have been changed.

Ya i changed it to what u said orginally. I still think this will cause confusion and i disagree with that it shouldnt be in a run.
