Games that make you feel better when you're down

No, but I've wanted to. I must say I do enjoy the bright colors and mechanics in SMS. I'd love to see them use the FLUDD in more games.

Donkey Kong Country 1 all the way! It's just the right blend of all facets of gaming (imo, of course). Perfectly balanced difficulty/progression, plus an easy to learn moveset with a few advanced techniques for the hXc player. Lovely and unique (and oh-so nostalgic now!) visuals. And a sick soundtrack, featuring what I consider the best tune in video games (Aquatic Ambience!!!). Whenever I think SNES I think DKC1. It takes me back to happier, more innocent times.

I know now that in reality things around me were actually falling to pieces (addiction issues on both sides of my family, money laundering-ish type activity and the subsequent getting caught lol, as well as a host of other familial troubles), but me & my sister were blissfully unaware, our biggest problems being having to choose the next SNES purchase wisely, and if we were getting Happy Meals that day or not lol. DKC will always transport me back to when life was still amazing, unspoiled by stress and the ills of modernity.

Brb, headin to dust off the 'ol SNES, insert DKC, and have a good cry...lol! :D

For me this currently is Portal Elevators and Portal Still Alive. I like to do a casual run of both mixing up strats as I go. I don't know if it's me not wanting to forget the strats or that Portal became my replacement for the daily bit of mindless grinding in that mmo I used to play. Definitely helps me wake up in the mornings!

Puzzle Games, and clicker games. They are both mentally engaging and mindless. You tune out the problems of the world and solve a optimization problem or just a puzzle.

I usually go for minesweeper, picross, or logic puzzles.

My favorite clicker is a webgame called Kitten's Game http://bloodrizer.ru/games/kittens/# It's not speedrunable, because there is no ending unless you count all achievements.. in which case community members say it'll take over a year of casual play to get all the achievements.

Pocket Card Jockey is a great (and unfortunately unpopular) game. The premise is strange, but it's a very addicting game once you adapt. I find fun in planning a strategy for a race and quickly adapting it throughout.

Tetris, if I'm having a bad day or just have too many things on my mind I can lose myself in the world of falling blocks.

King Arthur's World is a pretty chill SNES game.

This is a pretty chill "game" too http://illogictree.com/games/kyoto/
