Nemmy 3 runs much longer than I see in other runs?

So this is a question I’ve wondered since I started running the game. I’ve noticed, in watching other speedruns, that Nemesis only runs around the generators for a few seconds before he stops and Carlos calls out a number. When I get to this point in the game, I’m running around in circles for a good 15-20 seconds before he stops running and I can shoot the red boxes to get him down. In some people’s runs, he doesn’t even do a full circle before stopping.

So my question is: is this a DA thing? Am I landing too many perfect dodges and the game just wants to make it that much longer? Or is this a difference on platforms? A lot of the runs I watch are on PC which is just much faster in general. I am running the Any% Console category on Standard, and play on an xbox one.

If anybody know why this happens and maybe has tips on how I can speed this up, it would be very much appreciated. Maybe I’m just crazy.

On a side note, love how helpful people have been in this community. I’ve met tons of people because of this game and am super stoked to be a part of it in some small way.

How much time Nemmy spends up there running is related to framerate, and also some unknown variables. We still didn't figure out why at 120 FPS sometimes he goes behind tank 6 instead of 5, when he does that, it's a pretty significant timesave on the fight.

There's a video comparing the framerate differences here:

Wow, this is crazy informative. Thank you guys for putting the time in to reply. In the video comparing the fights, mine definitely resembles the top right corner but not quite that long! So if it’s frame rate based does that mean that most people playing on Xbox are on a level playing field?

Base xbox has the worst time with frame rate. Closer to 30 fps compared to other consoles. So it would be the worst one to run the game on.

Huh.... the length of his run is determined by his hp value, people who are getting shorter runs are dealing more damage. Let’s say Nemmy 3 will run and hide, then he will jump at you, before finally jumping on the acid tank in a normal fight.

If you deal enough damage you can skip his run and hide, and it goes straight to the jump which is faster.

Another factor that determines the length of his run is where he jumps up. He will hide behind tank 5 if I recall correctly on the first one, but if he jumps up next to tank 5 he will do a full circle before he hides, ideally you want him to jump up right before or after tank 5, that way he will only do a full circle (or a little bit less) rather than the circle and a half he might do if he’s positioned too far away from 5.

Since all other fights are manipulated by hitting certain hp totals for nemesis I see no reason why this wouldn’t be the case here

Yes,the length of the run depends of FPS,on 60 FPS he would always be behind tank 8 or 1,while on 120 FPS behind 5 or 6.

If he doesn't move from position in which he is after the cutscene starts (which can happen if you interrupt him as he is running towards the tank 2 and 3) ,he jumps on between tanks 2 on 3 and runs from there, meaning that he does a bit more than a full circle on 60 FPS and on 120FPS a bit more than a half of a circle.

Now Nemmy's HP is a completely different story. If you damage him enough (after the cutscene if you shoot a flame round and 6 shotgun shots in the head on standard, damage on that part has to be really precise) it triggers his 3rd phase, but doing that loses a lot of time compared to the strat we use because he would climb on,run and jump at you instead of hiding behind the tank and after that he would do a lot of attacks instead of doing another run and there is a big change that he does the combo attack and if he does that,it's >10 secs time loss and you can't do anything to stop that combo.

Thank you all for the incredibly helpful information, that’s going to help me a lot in my runs. So my main question now is: is playing on Xbox putting me at a disadvantage? Doing some research it sounds like the Xbox one X version of the game outputs at 2160p while the ps4 pro version outputs at at 1620p. And it doesn’t sound like the Xbox one is quite powerful enough to support that kind of output for certain areas of the game and can get a significant frame rate drop in certain parts of the game.

And to top it all off, I’m not playing on an Xbox one X, I’m just playing on the base console. I’m sure throughout the duration of an hour long Speedrun, those frames add up and I’m sure give you a significant disadvantage, no?

I know this creates problems in of itself, and simplicity is ideal for speedrunning communities. But to me this raises the question of: should there be separate categories for those console platforms? Clearly and understandably, the developers didn’t have speedrunning in mind while making the game. I know it would be annoying to have an Any% Xbox One and an Any% PS4 category, but now that I think about it, most of those top runs on the leaderboard are actually PlayStation players.

Just a topic of discussion, I don’t mean to cause any conflict!

You know I was going to make a comment saying that the top players on console are playing on base Playstation/Xbox, but after looking at the tops they are basically all Playstation. I think if I remember correctly that base Playstation is stronger than base xbox so theres the possibility of just frame power there. Maybe theres disadvantages to playing on a stronger console like Pro and X since alot of it is just making things more prettier in a sense? I dont know I'm just throwing stuff out there for more discussion among the console community here

Playstation seems to be the go to when speedrunning.

There was a time where xbox one x was being pushed to 4k but the framerate was worse than base xbox so they patched it to do what the other consoles were doing(1080) but i believe the xbox one x is still struggling compared to both playstations.

Over estimated the xbox one x i guess.

Wow, funny enough as we were talking about this, the Any% Console WR was broken by ANIXEL_RB and he was playing on an Xbox one x. A glimmer of hope for those of us running on Xbox perhaps?

I've been doing knife only runs on og xbox and by looking down and not moving it seems he does about half a lap less. may help on other consoles as well.

Interesting, I use a similar manip on CT Nemmy for handgun only, stops him climbing the tower. I’ll test this out later.
